00:03:24.319 the one doctor said you have to get used
00:03:26.720 to telling your brain to sorry my ear
00:03:29.599 plug telling your brain to talk to your
00:03:33.040 spinal cord. Isn’t that interesting?

00:06:32.160 threat um in in the Jewish community
00:06:36.000 that that the Jewish people are going to
00:06:38.800 be watered down and disappeared. And so,
00:06:41.120 you’re taught to be very protective of
00:06:42.880 that. And it stretches on to uh
00:06:46.160 Christian symbols, Christian holidays,
00:06:48.000 and things like that. And there’s
00:06:49.360 actually this feeling of almost offense
00:06:51.919 like if somebody were to come up and and
00:06:54.080 just randomly say Merry Christmas, you
00:06:57.199 know, I may not have said anything out
00:06:58.960 outright or or you know, there may be
00:07:01.680 people who who’d say it, but you know, a
00:07:03.680 lot of people don’t. But maybe you walk
00:07:05.520 away saying they don’t even know that
00:07:07.120 I’m I’m Jewish. Why would they why would
00:07:09.680 they assume that I celebrate Christmas
00:07:11.440 when you know the reality is that person
00:07:14.560 is just sharing the joy of the season
00:07:17.360 trying to be friendly and there’s
00:07:20.800 there’s a need to not be the victim
00:07:22.960 there.

00:08:08.960 we always are trying to feel bad for our
00:08:13.199 heritage for the minority. And it’s not
00:08:16.000 that we’re purposely trying to make the
00:08:18.400 minority groups feel bad. Like do you
00:08:21.360 think if you were in Jew Jerusalem or
00:08:23.440 you were in, you know, Israel, do you
00:08:25.680 think that if they came up to you and
00:08:26.800 said, "Happy Hanukkah," and you weren’t
00:08:29.120 Jewish, they were trying to be mean?
00:08:31.280 >> No. you would know that they’re just
00:08:33.279 expressing the the wishes for the
00:08:35.519 season. And I think that’s where we say,
00:08:39.279 you know, you kind of have to get over
00:08:41.200 yourself a little bit. You’re not that
00:08:42.799 important to to the person that’s saying
00:08:45.200 it. They’re trying to be friendly. Get
00:08:47.120 over yourself a little bit. Don’t you

00:08:55.120 opportunity for you as a minority to to

00:09:06.640 if there’s an opportunity say you know I
00:09:08.640 don’t celebrate Christmas but I’d love
00:09:09.920 to share with you what my what my values
00:09:12.959 are and what I what I celebrate.

00:09:20.399 interesting. You said a lot of schools
00:09:22.880 get nervous about the separation of
00:09:25.040 church and state but you said it’s not
00:09:28.800 that clearcut. Can you explain that?
00:09:31.279 >> Yeah. So, actually it it does boil down
00:09:33.440 to separation of church and state which
00:09:36.399 that term is not actually in the
00:09:38.480 constitution.
00:09:40.240 Separation of church and state comes
00:09:41.920 from what’s called the establishment
00:09:43.519 clause. And what it says is that our
00:09:46.720 government is not allowed to establish a
00:09:49.839 state-run religion. We’re also not
00:09:52.160 allowed to deny anyone the right to
00:09:55.680 practice their religion. And so what
00:09:58.480 happens is these schools put up, you
00:10:01.680 know,
00:10:03.680 Santa, put up, you know, uh, Christian,
00:10:06.800 uh, symbols, Christmas symbols, and they
00:10:09.920 get overly worried that that’s going to
00:10:12.560 be seen as them promoting a religion.
00:10:16.640 But that’s not that’s not what that
00:10:18.560 establishment clause is. That’s not the
00:10:21.519 school. That’s not the government
00:10:22.959 establishing a religion and saying you
00:10:25.760 have to practice this religion. It’s
00:10:28.399 it’s celebrating and I think as long as
00:10:31.440 they’re
00:10:33.120 I I think the the the the cases and I
00:10:35.600 think the the body of law is they just
00:10:37.760 have to remain neutral on it. So
00:10:39.839 promoting you know Christianity,
00:10:42.640 promoting Judaism, promoting that type
00:10:45.279 of thing, they have the symbols up,
00:10:47.040 they’re being neutral on it. There’s
00:10:48.560 nothing wrong with that. What are your
00:10:50.399 thoughts? No, I agree. I I think being
00:10:53.760 one of the general public who has
00:10:56.240 celebrated Christmas, you know, since I
00:10:58.640 was born, um
00:11:02.160 what’s interesting to me, and this is
00:11:03.839 just kind of going sideways a little, is
00:11:06.480 you notice a lot of schools stopped
00:11:09.120 wearing Halloween costumes at school.
00:11:12.000 They stopped celebrating Halloween.

00:11:19.519 safety reasons. But I don’t even know if

00:15:49.839 do that by erasing religion. You do that
00:15:52.480 by allowing people to practice their
00:15:54.800 religion.

00:16:15.040 that’s teaching people how to middle

00:26:26.000 can control, the more you need to
00:26:27.840 educate. So maybe it’s a matter of
00:26:29.600 perspective for people trying to figure
00:26:31.200 out focus on on what’s your circle of
00:26:34.720 control and and make sure that your kids
00:26:38.240 who are in that circle, they’re the ones
00:26:40.320 that are getting your attention and the
00:26:42.080 counseling. And when it comes to the
00:26:44.960 things that are on the further outskirts
00:26:46.960 like what’s being posted in a school,
00:26:49.279 you can’t control that. What you can
00:26:51.520 control is how your kids see that and
00:26:54.480 address that and interpret that,
00:26:56.320 >> right? because eventually they’re not
00:26:57.600 going to be in your inner circle if
00:26:59.679 you’re forcing them to do things your
00:27:02.640 way. And and the worst thing that I
00:27:04.799 always would say and that I [snorts]
