00:01:49.680 Let me give you a couple arguments. Um,
00:01:52.640 they shouldn’t have shot her. Um, they
00:01:54.799 had no right to shoot her and then it’s
00:01:57.680 ruining the political climate in the
00:01:59.680 country for conservatives. And there was
00:02:02.719 a there was a a video of a doctor on the
00:02:06.320 scene that said, "Let me see if there’s
00:02:08.080 a pulse." And they said that they
00:02:09.520 stopped that doctor from going in there
00:02:12.080 and they should have done it.
00:02:13.760 >> Yeah. So, let’s uh let’s just all
00:02:16.560 remember that this was less than 48
00:02:18.400 hours ago.
00:02:19.280 >> Okay.
00:02:19.599 >> Okay. So, there’s a lot of information
00:02:21.680 that is still not public and probably
00:02:23.760 won’t be until the investigation is
00:02:25.599 over. Uh anytime there’s a police
00:02:27.680 action, uh whether that’s at the federal
00:02:30.239 level, the state level, the city level,
00:02:34.480 um county level, it doesn’t matter.
00:02:36.319 Anytime there’s a police action, there
00:02:38.640 is um an immediate action planned for
00:02:43.360 for that scenario. So in this case,
00:02:46.160 there was an officer involved shooting.
00:02:48.400 Uh it was a federal officer, so uh they
00:02:52.319 take control of the scene. Uh whether
00:02:54.800 you like that or not, um it is a crime
00:02:57.440 scene. Uh so they take control of that.
00:03:01.680 uh they keep people from walking through
00:03:05.519 the crime scene. Uh they secure it and
00:03:08.640 they use their personnel uh for um
00:03:14.159 any medical attention that they need to
00:03:16.080 give to them or any action that needs to
00:03:19.040 be taken
00:03:20.720 uh in regards to that. Now they uh so
00:03:24.080 everybody has probably seen one or two
00:03:27.040 um of the videos that are out there,
00:03:29.200 maybe more than that. Um, I searched a
00:03:31.599 whole bunch of videos today. I made some
00:03:33.519 phone calls after um, you asked me to
00:03:36.560 come on so that I just had some stuff
00:03:38.480 fresh in my head about it. Um, there
00:03:42.080 there are still um,
00:03:45.519 what people would would say they’re just
00:03:47.840 jumping on social media and talking
00:03:51.280 about what they think should have
00:03:52.959 happened.
00:03:53.760 >> But let’s let’s do this, Jeff. Let’s
00:03:56.080 break it down for people first and
00:03:57.840 foremost. So, because you came to us
00:03:59.920 today, we were talking about it a little
00:04:01.360 bit earlier before we started recording
00:04:02.799 here, and there was some information
00:04:03.920 that that you had come across that we
00:04:05.840 didn’t actually even know, but this this
00:04:08.159 was not just a a random thing with these
00:04:11.840 this interaction between these ICE
00:04:13.680 agents and this lady. There was uh there
00:04:16.478 was a history that was going on that
00:04:18.238 day,
00:04:18.880 >> right? So, she she had been following uh
00:04:21.759 the convoy around uh and she had been
00:04:24.880 cutting in and out of their their
00:04:27.199 traffic. Okay. Um, they like to keep a
00:04:30.320 tight um convoy, if you will, so that uh
00:04:34.080 they’re all in in not only verbal
00:04:37.199 communication, but they’re in uh
00:04:39.520 eyesight of each other, right? And so,
00:04:41.680 as they’re going to serve a warrant on a
00:04:45.759 u an illegal alien um that has some type
00:04:50.720 of crime, has committed some type of
00:04:52.639 crime. So, uh, regardless of how you
00:04:56.000 feel about that, that is a federal
00:04:58.560 immigration law. They have once they
00:05:01.759 have a warrant, they can go and pick
00:05:04.160 that person up. If you don’t like the
00:05:06.080 way they do that, that’s fine. Uh, you
00:05:08.720 can protest that. U, the First Amendment
00:05:11.919 allows you to do that, but it doesn’t
00:05:13.520 allow you to interfere with law
00:05:15.759 enforcement action. So you can stand on
00:05:18.400 the sidewalk, you can uh do whatever you
00:05:22.479 want as long as you’re not impeding uh
00:05:24.960 their operations or what they’re doing.
00:05:26.639 And so uh so this lady and some other uh
00:05:30.000 people uh were driving around. They were
00:05:33.199 communicating with people where to where
00:05:35.600 protesters should be. And a lot of these
00:05:38.240 people were throwing snowballs um at
00:05:40.880 officers. And it’s not like a snowball
00:05:42.720 fight. uh they nobody knows what was
00:05:45.759 inside those snowballs if there was
00:05:48.080 anything or if they were they racked
00:05:51.520 them to where they’re ice balls. Um so
00:05:54.400 now it’s a solid piece of ice that
00:05:56.080 they’re throwing at somebody. And so
00:05:58.479 officers have to be aware of their
00:06:00.479 surroundings all the time. Now this
00:06:03.520 lady, so the convoy had a mishap. One of
00:06:06.880 the vehicles apparently got stuck in the
00:06:09.120 in the ice and snow on the side of the
00:06:11.280 road. So they set up a perimeter. She
00:06:13.680 went up and cut uh the front of the
00:06:16.880 convoy off. Uh meaning that there was no
00:06:20.000 exit. Okay. So she was sideways or or uh
00:06:25.280 she was parked across the roadway. U not
00:06:30.080 in she was across two lanes of traffic.
00:06:33.600 So incoming and outgoing.
00:06:36.720 I like to break it down uh little by
00:06:39.680 little, you know, with my history as a a
00:06:42.319 former prosecutor as well. There’s this
00:06:44.880 action that’s going on and and her act
00:06:48.000 of going in and out and trying to
00:06:50.080 disrupt this activity. I look at it in
00:06:52.800 terms of okay, every time there is some
00:06:55.360 sort of illegal action, some chargeable
00:06:57.600 crime, what is it? At this point, she’s
00:06:59.599 already committed obstruction of
00:07:00.960 justice. That’s already a chargeable
00:07:02.720 crime, an arrestable offense at that
00:07:04.400 point. and the fact that they uh had
00:07:07.039 this vehicle that was disabled stopped
00:07:10.319 and you mentioned setting a perimeter.
00:07:12.479 That’s important.
00:07:14.479 Why?
00:07:15.360 >> Well, a lot of things are happening,
00:07:17.680 right? So, so you set a perimeter for
00:07:20.160 safety. So, now they they probably have
00:07:23.440 some SOP that says what distance. Um
00:07:26.639 >> what’s an SOP?
00:07:27.680 >> Uh standard operating procedure. So, um
00:07:31.199 that’s how they operate. Uh we don’t
00:07:33.680 operate in in a world of we just make it
00:07:36.720 up as we go. There is a a standard
00:07:39.520 operating procedure for everything we
00:07:41.840 do. Um somebody falls, somebody gets
00:07:45.599 shot, somebody um is yelling and
00:07:48.160 screaming or spitting on you, there is
00:07:50.479 an SOP to handle each and every one of
00:07:53.680 those scenarios. So, uh, this lady, uh,
00:07:58.160 has now pulled up in front and it and
00:08:00.160 it’s it’s later in the day. Uh, now
00:08:03.520 she’s been following them around.
00:08:05.440 They’ve asked her to to move along. Uh,
00:08:10.000 they asked her to move her vehicle. Uh,
00:08:12.240 she didn’t do that. So, uh, there was a
00:08:15.120 vehicle up front, which is the officer
00:08:16.960 that actually, um, is is the one that
00:08:21.199 everybody sees on the video that is
00:08:23.199 taking the shots. Uh he came from that
00:08:25.680 vehicle. The vehicle behind them, those
00:08:28.479 two officers exit the vehicle and they
00:08:30.720 were walking up towards her. One of them
00:08:32.479 actually got a hand on the the handle or
00:08:37.279 the door of
00:08:39.919 this lady’s car vehicle and was
00:08:42.880 attempting to open that. Well, it was
00:08:44.720 locked. Of course, they were telling her
00:08:46.480 to stay put, don’t move. There was an
00:08:49.440 officer in front. In one of the angles,
00:08:51.360 you can’t really see that he’s in front
00:08:53.839 of the vehicle, but he’s actually
00:08:56.160 standing there telling her, "Don’t move.
00:08:58.160 Stay right where you’re at." Um, and
00:09:00.800 exit the vehicle.
00:09:03.120 Okay. So,
00:09:05.839 she backs up,
00:09:07.360 >> and this is where I’m going to jump in
00:09:08.640 again because at that point, the backing
00:09:11.279 up is arguably resisting arrest. So,
00:09:13.839 there’s another chargeable crime.
00:09:15.600 >> Absolutely. So, the officer has clearly
00:09:17.839 given her a demand to to to stay where
00:09:21.519 she’s at. Um, don’t move. That that
00:09:24.880 includes the vehicle you’re you’re
00:09:26.640 sitting in. Okay. And u and then she got
00:09:30.320 back to uh 3 or 4 feet away from him. Uh
00:09:34.080 she turns and regardless if she knew or
00:09:37.279 saw or anything of that officer in front
00:09:40.640 of her, uh she sped up towards that
00:09:45.120 officer that was in front of him. He put
00:09:47.120 his hands out to to uh
00:09:51.839 on the hood of the vehicle. Um but then
00:09:54.800 immediately drew his um his sidearm and
00:09:59.600 fired a single round through the
00:10:02.080 windshield. Then as he was moving away
00:10:05.760 from the hood of the car, he then took
00:10:08.399 his his uh firearm and fired two rounds
00:10:11.760 uh through the window or uh the open
00:10:14.480 window of the driver’s door. Um now from
00:10:18.240 what I’ve heard from people that I’ve
00:10:21.120 made uh some calls to, uh one of those
00:10:24.079 rounds went into the seat and the other
00:10:26.720 one went into the floorboard up front in
00:10:29.600 front of her uh on the passenger side.
00:10:32.640 Uh then you see the vehicle driving off
00:10:34.959 at a high rate of speed and crashes into
00:10:37.440 another vehicle in a tree. Um and they
00:10:41.920 again they have a SOP some so after an
00:10:46.800 officer is involved in a shooting. This
00:10:49.440 was not anybody returning fire. This was
00:10:52.240 he used his firearm to fire into this
00:10:55.920 vehicle. Um they have protocols that
00:10:59.200 they have to set. Okay. First they have
00:11:01.519 to check is everybody okay in the team,
00:11:04.880 right? And then they’re going to go up
00:11:06.720 and secure that because they don’t know
00:11:08.880 what condition that person’s in. They
00:11:10.640 don’t know if they have a weapon or
00:11:12.880 anything like that. So they’re going to
00:11:14.320 set a perimeter on that vehicle.
00:11:16.720 >> Okay. Um that is first and foremost
00:11:19.839 before they allow medical to go up there
00:11:21.760 because they don’t want medical
00:11:22.880 personnel to go up there and then get in
00:11:25.200 a firefight with somebody.
00:11:27.120 >> That makes sense. And yeah,
00:11:28.560 >> and so they they have to secure that.
00:11:31.200 They’ll look at that um and make sure
00:11:33.839 that the firemen or the EMTs are safe to
00:11:38.560 approach the vehicle. And um and this
00:11:42.079 person coming up and and saying that uh
00:11:44.640 hey, I’m a doctor. You know what? Let me
00:11:47.360 render aid. Um they don’t know you from
00:11:52.000 Adam,

00:11:54.399 You are trying to enter a crime scene.
00:11:57.600 Sorry. I don’t care if you’re in scrubs.
00:12:00.880 Don’t care if you have a stethoscope
00:12:02.800 around your neck. What were you doing

00:12:06.399 >> Right. And the hard part is let’s say
00:12:08.720 this person had ill will towards that
00:12:10.560 other person. You don’t know that. And
00:12:12.800 that’s a lawsuit right there.
00:12:14.720 >> You know, I was talking to Ken last
00:12:16.240 night cuz I was arguing with someone on
00:12:18.000 X and they’re like life, you know, life
00:12:20.800 matters more than a crime scene. But
00:12:23.760 what people don’t understand are there
00:12:25.519 there are protocols to protect everyone
00:12:27.680 involved. It’s not just the police. It’s
00:12:30.480 to protect everyone involved. Because
00:12:32.639 let’s say, you know, you’re you’re
00:12:35.680 stalking me and there’s something that
00:12:37.519 happens, an altercation, and now I’m
00:12:39.839 injured and my stalker comes up and it’s
00:12:41.839 like, "Oh, let me let me give her aid."
00:12:44.000 And she he comes up and stabs me or
00:12:46.079 strangles me. They have protocols. And
00:12:49.680 the hard part I feel like right now the
00:12:53.279 energy of America is emotions matter
00:12:57.040 more than protocols. But the bottom line
00:12:59.360 is if you don’t like something like you
00:13:01.200 were saying, if you don’t like how ICE
00:13:03.200 is going out or you don’t like the
00:13:05.040 protocols,
00:13:06.959 >> educate yourself and go and try to
00:13:08.959 change the laws.
00:13:10.079 >> Yeah.
00:13:10.399 >> But just being upset upset and going
00:13:13.200 this isn’t fair. You know, I’m a middle
00:13:15.279 child. Life isn’t fair. My mom used to
00:13:17.600 tell me that all the time. But if you
00:13:19.279 don’t like how something is and those
00:13:21.279 protocols, then take a ch take take the
00:13:24.079 initiative to say, "I’m going to go make
00:13:25.839 a change." Instead of just being a
00:13:28.959 keyboard warrior and being like, "That
00:13:30.800 was unfair. That was this." Let’s take a
00:13:33.120 step. Let’s take a breath and see, was
00:13:35.200 there something illegally done? Let’s
00:13:36.720 listen to the whole story.
00:13:38.000 >> Right. Right. And to to address that,
00:13:39.839 again, going back to my steps along the
00:13:42.399 way, the minute she stepped on the gas
00:13:45.040 and started moving the vehicle towards
00:13:47.360 that officer, just to be very clear,
00:13:49.839 that is assault with a deadly weapon.
00:13:51.440 >> What’s a 4,000lb?
00:13:52.800 >> It is a deadly weapon and it can kill.
00:13:55.600 We know that from what we do day in and
00:13:57.680 day out handling accident cases. When
00:14:00.320 you intentionally use it, it is a
00:14:02.079 weapon. It is a deadly weapon. And that
00:14:04.000 officer has an absolute right to defend
00:14:06.639 himself with deadly force. That’s the
00:14:09.120 way the law reads.
00:14:10.560 >> Yeah. Um I got to be honest with uh you
00:14:14.560 know if you’re going out here to these
00:14:18.320 where ICE is doing these things and
00:14:20.560 you’re protesting. Um hey they’re doing
00:14:23.839 a job. They didn’t wake up one day and
00:14:25.680 say oh let’s go to Minneapolis. You know
00:14:27.519 they’re following orders just like
00:14:28.880 everybody else. And and that is their
00:14:31.600 job. they chose to do it and they do it
00:14:33.920 um with professionalism. Uh you getting
00:14:38.320 in the way only puts your life and their
00:14:41.600 life in danger. And so uh I get it. I
00:14:46.480 get that you have an opinion about
00:14:48.240 something
00:14:49.839 but uh do it the right way. Do it do it
00:14:55.120 peacefully. Do it on the sidewalks. and
00:14:58.800 um and that it’s unfortunate that this
00:15:02.000 has happened, but it really brings to
00:15:04.079 light uh how
00:15:07.680 dealing with something that it puts
00:15:09.839 herself in harm’s way. I’m sure she
00:15:11.440 didn’t go out there to get shot um but
00:15:14.000 she put herself in a position where she
00:15:17.279 really uh put herself in in harm’s way
00:15:20.639 at those officers. And can’t you also
00:15:22.639 blame her own friends thinking we can go
00:15:26.000 out there and we can act this way and
00:15:28.240 and you know you’re being so brave and
00:15:30.399 you’re going to make a stand. Well, are
00:15:32.560 you going to be a martyr? Just so you
00:15:34.079 know, you might be going out there to be
00:15:35.760 a martyr and if you think it’s the right
00:15:38.000 cause or whatever. But I’ve I grew up
00:15:42.079 with a dad as chief of police. You know,
00:15:43.760 I grew around grew up around police and
00:15:46.160 I’ve I’ve always been nervous if I’ve
00:15:48.320 ever been pulled over like, "Hey, I have
00:15:50.079 no weapons. here’s my hands, you know,
00:15:52.240 and that’s with growing up around police
00:15:55.199 myself, I’ve always respected the
00:15:58.240 authority, you know, that they’ve had.
00:16:00.240 And I’ve always, you know, growing up in
00:16:02.240 Chicago been like, "Hey,
00:16:03.839 >> the default should be follow the
00:16:05.759 instructions of the law enforcement
00:16:07.839 officer." There will be a time and a
00:16:09.920 place to challenge those officers
00:16:12.800 decisions, but right there in front of
00:16:14.720 them in the heat of the moment when when
00:16:16.800 they’re feeling threatened, you’re
00:16:18.480 feeling threatened, there’s there’s all
00:16:20.079 that back and forth going on, that’s not
00:16:22.079 the time to do it. It’s really not
00:16:25.279 >> correct.
00:16:26.560 >> Yeah. Meg, I wanted to ask you, don’t
00:16:28.399 you think, because you you showed me
00:16:30.079 that that video of the one guy claiming
00:16:32.240 to be a doctor wanting to get on on the
00:16:34.079 scene, don’t you think part of the
00:16:36.480 uproar and the controversy is the
00:16:39.199 officer’s response to him by saying, "I
00:16:41.440 don’t I don’t care who you say you are."
00:16:43.279 And I don’t I don’t think there was
00:16:44.639 anything wrong with that. But don’t you
00:16:45.920 think that’s part of what’s striking the
00:16:47.920 nerve of people saying, "He didn’t
00:16:49.600 care."
00:16:50.639 >> Well, because it doesn’t matter. I mean,
00:16:52.959 they’re not going to sit there and, hey,
00:16:54.720 here’s my credentials. Can you call? You
00:16:57.279 know, let’s stop what you’re doing
00:16:58.800 protecting the crime scene and
00:17:00.639 protecting other people and making sure
00:17:02.160 it’s safe while you go and make 20 phone
00:17:04.319 calls to make sure I’m really a doctor
00:17:06.400 when we’re going to have EMS on the
00:17:07.919 scene in 2 minutes.
00:17:09.280 >> I mean, it just doesn’t make sense. So,
00:17:11.599 I think that, you know, they were that
00:17:13.919 the woman was screaming going, "You
00:17:15.919 killed my neighbor. You’re taking people
00:17:18.240 away from their homes." You know, I just
00:17:21.280 We go We go to Europe, right? I go to
00:17:23.439 Italy. Would I love to live in Italy?
00:17:25.119 Sure, but I can’t live there illegally.
00:17:27.919 And I’m not saying, you know, one thing
00:17:29.440 doesn’t make something else correct. And
00:17:31.280 I, you know, my sister-in-law’s dad was
00:17:34.240 from Mexico and he did it the right way.
00:17:36.160 And I, you know, and you know, we know
00:17:37.760 people that haven’t done the right way.
00:17:38.960 And I have empathy for these people. I
00:17:41.120 understand it’s difficult to get into
00:17:42.640 this country. You know, I have Filipino
00:17:44.880 friends that they took 15 years to get
00:17:47.039 in the country. It’s not an easy thing,
00:17:49.120 but the law is the law. That’s that’s
00:17:51.039 how I come down to it. I’m I’m like, the
00:17:53.280 law is the law. And if you if you’re
00:17:55.760 sneaky about it and you get away with
00:17:57.360 it, then you get away with it. And if
00:17:59.280 you don’t, then you don’t because the
00:18:01.600 law is the law. You have to face. And so
00:18:03.760 I think with that woman screaming like
00:18:06.320 that, it just brings up the a that rage
00:18:10.160 in America of victimhood, how things
00:18:12.320 aren’t fair and how, you know,
00:18:16.400 authoritative,
00:18:17.919 you know, being authoritarian and them
00:18:20.799 taking over this scene is kind of like
00:18:22.960 it it’s just very emotional versus yes,
00:18:25.679 there’s emotion there. Yes, you
00:18:27.360 obviously don’t want this woman dead.
00:18:29.600 you you feel bad for the decisions that
00:18:31.760 were made and how it all happened and at
00:18:34.720 the same time equally she broke the law
00:18:38.480 and she made an officer feel like they
00:18:42.480 had to protect themselves.
00:18:43.840 >> Yeah.
00:18:44.160 >> And Jeeoff, what was probably going
00:18:45.440 through that officer’s mind when the and
00:18:48.799 I’m talking about the one who’s telling
00:18:50.320 the guy on camera that this is such an
00:18:53.039 uproar about this guy where he’s saying,
00:18:55.280 "I’m a doctor." And the officer
00:18:56.720 responds, "I don’t care." what’s going
00:18:58.799 through his mind right now?
00:18:59.919 >> So, SOP,
00:19:02.480 right? He’s he’s like, I have a job to
00:19:04.960 do. I don’t care what you’re saying to
00:19:07.039 me or what you’re doing. Um, and they
00:19:09.520 really don’t. I mean, their job there is
00:19:11.919 now to secure the scene. And people say
00:19:15.440 all kinds of stuff, right? The lady is
00:19:17.679 yelling and screaming, "You’re stealing
00:19:19.600 people."
00:19:20.799 >> Right.
00:19:21.360 >> Um, I’m like, "Wow, they’re stealing
00:19:23.840 people. That’s pretty cool."
00:19:27.440 Um, so and some people are saying
00:19:29.919 they’re kidnapping people, right? Well,
00:19:32.320 kidnapping, if you look at the statute,
00:19:34.799 I mean, it’s really specific. Um, that’s
00:19:37.600 not what they’re doing because they have
