00:00:08.400 >> And today we have a special guest with
00:00:10.400 us. You might know him, Brad Perry.
00:00:14.160 >> Hey, Brad.
00:00:15.839 >> Welcome to the show.
00:00:16.880 >> Thank you. I’m actually I’m so cool to
00:00:18.640 be here like next to you, too.
00:00:20.400 >> Well, thanks.
00:00:21.119 >> I’m so excited to be able to interview
00:00:22.640 you.
00:00:23.279 >> Well, is that what’s going on? Oh,
00:00:24.640 >> wait. You’re gonna be like You’re gonna
00:00:26.560 be like Pat. Pat started interviewing
00:00:28.320 us. He he took over he took over the
00:00:30.400 show and started interviewing us.
00:00:32.238 >> So, okay, I won’t. But I’ve known you
00:00:34.160 guys for a while, so this is what’s
00:00:35.360 really cool to be here and just seeing
00:00:36.719 you two like the smiles on your face,
00:00:38.559 though.
00:00:39.280 >> Fire away. What do you want to know?
00:00:40.480 Let’s go. Let’s go with it. Where do you
00:00:41.760 want to start?
00:00:42.399 >> If your gumbo’s too hot, you put
00:00:43.920 mayonnaise in it.
00:00:47.120 >> Jumbalayia. Jumbo. Who puts mayonnaise
00:00:49.920 in the jumbolaya?
00:00:51.680 That’s how this kind of all started with
00:00:53.280 us. It did.
00:00:54.000 >> That’s That’s actually our dates back to
00:00:55.600 that. It goes back to our first actual
00:00:57.680 meeting in person was me coming to the
00:00:59.840 office and talking jumbolaya and where
00:01:03.359 who is it your nephew your nephew puts
00:01:06.080 mayonnaise in the jumbolaya we almost
00:01:08.000 had a little
00:01:09.119 >> I almost like walked out of there I
00:01:10.799 couldn’t
00:01:11.200 >> I know that is illegal so what’s funny
00:01:15.040 too is we ended up talking and you’re
00:01:16.720 from Chicago and you thought you knew my
00:01:18.479 dad
00:01:19.040 >> yeah so
00:01:20.080 >> my dad was chief of police of Cook
00:01:21.439 County
00:01:21.920 >> yes
00:01:22.479 >> and you were from tell us a little bit
00:01:24.080 about that
00:01:24.640 >> so I back. Well, let’s still go back a
00:01:26.640 little bit. Originally from Michigan,
00:01:28.000 Battle Creek, Michigan, serial capital
00:01:29.439 of the world. Parents are from Detroit.
00:01:31.920 Um, I went to I played ice hockey in
00:01:34.240 Michigan.
00:01:34.880 >> Oh, I love hockey.
00:01:35.840 >> And then I do I do right there. I like
00:01:38.479 that. Thank you. That’s why we have more
00:01:39.840 in common. Midwestern people. There we
00:01:41.280 go.
00:01:41.680 >> So much of Blackhawks.
00:01:43.040 >> Yeah, Blackhawks.
00:01:44.240 >> That’s my favorite sport. Especially
00:01:45.360 when they throw those gloves off and
00:01:46.720 they start
00:01:47.280 >> I was a fighter. I was a fighter.
00:01:48.560 >> Were you?
00:01:49.040 >> Oh, yeah. I was
00:01:49.680 >> That’s really all she cares about,
00:01:50.960 right? I was a father. I I threw off the
00:01:52.640 gloves and I and I I can’t say how I
00:01:54.479 started fights, but let’s just say um I
00:01:58.079 would start a fight and the ref would um
00:02:00.479 kind of like want to throw me out and
00:02:01.600 then I would say, "Wait, he called me a"
00:02:03.680 and then they were like, "All right,
00:02:04.960 that guy’s out of the game." And so I
00:02:07.680 was like, that was my little trick
00:02:09.360 there. And so from there, I was playing
00:02:11.840 ice hockey and went to Holy Cross Junior
00:02:14.560 College at Notre Dame and then was doing
00:02:17.200 classes at Notre Dame. went to Chicago
00:02:18.959 to visit my brother uh for a break and I
00:02:22.239 landed a job in the movie industry
00:02:24.480 doubling Damon weigh-ins on Money.
00:02:27.360 >> Yeah.
00:02:27.840 >> And so that’s where I became the way
00:02:29.599 family. And so with that also too I was
00:02:31.520 working behind the scenes and with the
00:02:34.160 teamsters and the police department on
00:02:35.840 sets and stuff like that. And that’s
00:02:37.280 where
00:02:37.680 >> that’s where
00:02:38.239 >> that’s where it all came in. So that was
00:02:39.920 you know but we were we were young kids
00:02:41.599 back then. I mean you’re still young.
00:02:43.280 You’re still so young.
00:02:44.319 >> Yeah. See this is exactly I’m 52. Ken’s
00:02:47.440 55.
00:02:48.160 >> No, you’re not.
00:02:49.040 >> Yes.
00:02:49.519 >> I thought you were younger.
00:02:51.120 >> Really?
00:02:51.599 >> Yeah.
00:02:52.080 >> Well, that’s so sweet.
00:02:52.800 >> You look so young. I thought you both
00:02:54.160 were younger. I thought you were
00:02:55.360 >> I always say that Ken’s in a different
00:02:56.800 generation cuz my brother difference.
00:02:59.599 The three years difference. You’re a
00:03:00.800 different generation.
00:03:01.920 >> I don’t know. Same numbers here for
00:03:03.599 three years.
00:03:04.560 >> He had brothers that were born in the
00:03:06.480 60s. So when he was born, they were
00:03:08.239 already watching those shows from the
00:03:09.519 60s. So something will come up and it’ll
00:03:10.879 be like, "You don’t know that?" I’m
00:03:12.000 like, "No, I was born in 73. By the time
00:03:14.480 I’m watching shows, maybe five or I’m
00:03:16.879 like almost 80s, 1980s. I don’t remember
00:03:19.280 those 1960s shows.
00:03:21.440 >> So, I’m in a different generation.
00:03:23.040 >> So, that’s me, too. But you got to But
00:03:24.800 she watches them, right? You come back
00:03:26.000 and watch them with her the TV.
00:03:27.599 >> No, I can’t make her watch those. She
00:03:29.280 won’t do it.
00:03:29.920 >> Oh, we got to bring
00:03:31.040 >> some of them like what? Star Trek or
00:03:32.959 something.
00:03:33.920 >> No, like I love I love
00:03:37.280 >> would be good. The honeymooners called I
00:03:39.200 Love Lucy. I act like her.
00:03:40.799 >> Leave it to Beaver.
00:03:42.080 >> I love that show. That’s the 60s.
00:03:44.799 >> Uh, actually
00:03:45.680 >> it was more 70s, but it was about the ‘
00:03:47.599 50s.
00:03:48.000 >> Lever and Shirley.
00:03:48.799 >> Lever and Shirley. Was that still the
00:03:50.159 80s? Kind of 70s 80s.
00:03:52.319 >> But you have to realize, I mean, look,
00:03:53.840 I’m telling you guys a little history
00:03:54.799 here as we I don’t know how we got
00:03:56.480 pivoted this, but it’s great.
00:03:57.840 >> Um, Happy Days actually was shot in the
00:04:00.879 late60s
00:04:02.560 and it got shelved
00:04:04.319 >> and because like no one’s like, "Oh,
00:04:06.640 what are we going to do here? We don’t
00:04:07.840 need this like kind of show." So, they
00:04:10.159 were actually getting ready to shoot
00:04:11.680 American Graffiti,
00:04:13.200 >> and the studio wondered what um Howard
00:04:16.880 what um Ron Howard would look like if he
00:04:18.959 was in the 50s. And at that time, um
00:04:21.680 Gary Marshall was walking through the
00:04:23.919 offices and kind of like hurting goes,
00:04:25.199 "Hey, wait. I just did a pilot like
00:04:26.960 three or four years ago with uh Ron and
00:04:29.680 it’s down in the vault. You guys take a
00:04:31.120 look." So, they went down and pulled it
00:04:32.320 up,
00:04:32.960 >> looked at it, saw Ron in the 50s, like,
00:04:35.360 "Okay, that’s great." and they go,
00:04:37.199 "Well, why don’t we bring this out as a
00:04:39.919 TV show along with the movie? So, if the
00:04:42.160 movie goes well, we could bring the show
00:04:43.520 out." And so, American Graffiti went
00:04:45.199 well. And then they brought Happy Days
00:04:46.240 on.
00:04:46.560 >> Interesting. I love it.
00:04:47.520 >> That’s cool.
00:04:48.400 >> Yeah. And as we know, uh, Henry Winkler,
00:04:50.479 the F was only supposed to be in the
00:04:51.840 pilot season.
00:04:52.960 >> He wasn’t supposed to be in. So, he was
00:04:55.280 just supposed to do that walk-on. Richie
00:04:57.199 supposed to, you know, pretty much stand
00:04:58.479 up to him and that was it. But, it went
00:05:00.560 over so well, they kept him on as the FS
00:05:03.919 and that’s where the FS got to start. I
00:05:05.759 think that’s great though cuz
00:05:08.000 what did he do with this
00:05:10.960 >> everybody knows that
00:05:12.080 >> everybody knows that and then so that’s
00:05:13.360 the history of happy days but that’s the
00:05:14.800 history of TV and and you know the
00:05:16.400 business we’re in you never know how
00:05:18.000 things are going to go
00:05:18.800 >> well how did you end up getting that
00:05:20.320 part with mo money
00:05:21.440 >> so this is great and I tell everybody
00:05:23.919 work retail
00:05:26.320 I was working at the gap so I was I was
00:05:29.919 working at the gap and
00:05:33.360 I don’t know how I met someone who had a
00:05:37.280 friend where a production assistant and
00:05:38.639 they were looking for actually black
00:05:40.320 production assistants and I was like,
00:05:41.919 "Hey, I really want to be in the movies.
00:05:43.280 I’ll I’ll go give it a try." So, I got
00:05:44.720 hired on as a production assistant at
00:05:46.400 first and I was just office assistant
00:05:48.720 working and then I actually auditioned
00:05:51.919 for a part cuz I was acting too. So, I
00:05:53.840 trained at Second City. I was acting to
00:05:55.280 and stuff and I trained and I auditioned
00:05:57.520 for a part and Carl Craig uh rest his
00:06:00.080 soul who became my mentor. He was a
00:06:03.600 producer on the movie and he goes,
00:06:05.680 "Listen, you got two things here. One,
00:06:08.000 you know, you’ve been great in the
00:06:08.800 office. So, you’ve been learning about
00:06:09.840 that, but now you have a part, but you
00:06:14.000 either take the part or you become
00:06:15.759 Damon’s standin
00:06:17.919 and you can be on the set every day
00:06:20.800 because Damon was the star of the show."
00:06:22.560 Yeah. And so I of the movie and I was
00:06:24.720 like, "What do you think I should do?"
00:06:25.919 He goes, "Well, if you want to learn the
00:06:27.199 business, you need to be on the set
00:06:28.400 every day. I would take the standin
00:06:30.080 part." So I gave up the role part to do
00:06:32.479 the stand-in part. And so then I became
00:06:34.800 that’s it. And so what was happening too
00:06:36.479 was that they were filming in Living
00:06:38.080 Color at the same time. So Damon would
00:06:40.080 fly back to LA to do stuff. So I would
00:06:42.400 be standing in um while they were
00:06:44.240 filming scenes and stuff as Damon and
00:06:46.479 you would see me at times. And so, um,
00:06:48.400 the way I became his stunt double was
00:06:50.560 that he was off doing Living Color and
00:06:53.199 the stunt guy they had was a little not
00:06:56.080 exactly like him. He was a little
00:06:57.680 heavier and they wanted to get a nice
00:06:58.960 little shot. So, that’s where I came in
00:07:00.960 cuz I had shaved my head and everything
00:07:02.400 looked like him. And so,
00:07:03.599 >> I did a couple of stunts. And so, and
00:07:06.479 then Marlin and I became very good
00:07:08.560 friends because we were both the same
00:07:10.080 age. And uh, and
00:07:12.400 >> you’re still friends to this day with
00:07:13.680 him.
00:07:13.840 >> Still friends to this day. He’s just a
00:07:15.759 amazing guy. and um he you know our kids
00:07:19.199 know each other
00:07:20.319 >> and have done things together and he
00:07:21.919 helped actually produce my son’s uh
00:07:23.680 short film.
00:07:24.400 >> Oh, fantastic.
00:07:25.520 >> Gave some money and stuff, but yeah. So
00:07:27.039 I still know him. So I know it’s a long
00:07:28.880 way away from knowing your dad in
00:07:30.319 Chicago back.
00:07:31.039 >> No, I love that. I love all that. Like
00:07:33.120 this you I sitting in this chair.
00:07:36.560 >> It’s like things that I never thought
00:07:38.000 people would let me know about. I’m like
00:07:40.000 this is so amazing.
00:07:41.680 >> So yeah,
00:07:42.319 >> this is fun.
00:07:43.360 >> I do have a good time. And now I also
00:07:45.280 know you were doing some stuff with was
00:07:47.520 it the Jenny Jones show and Danny
00:07:50.000 Bonaduchcci, right?
00:07:51.039 >> So I’m wearing a lot of hats. So
00:07:52.720 >> what?
00:07:53.199 >> Yeah. Yeah. So I was production
00:07:55.280 assistant on the Jenny Jones show. Um
00:07:57.680 and also the warm-up person and then um
00:08:01.039 I left there and went to work with Danny
00:08:02.720 Bonaduchcci on his show. I was one guy
00:08:05.199 there doing that. Mark Wahberg, not the
00:08:08.240 Mark Wahlberg and the Wahberg family,
00:08:10.000 but Mark Wahberg who was a TV host. I
00:08:12.400 was a warm guy for his show in New York.
00:08:14.240 So I did a lot of behind the scenes
00:08:15.440 about Jerry Springer.
00:08:16.560 >> I knew Jerry Springer because our
00:08:18.080 studios were next to each other. So
00:08:20.000 Steve and Jenny at NBC in Chicago
00:08:22.479 studios were right next to each other.
00:08:24.000 We had the big studio, they had the
00:08:25.280 smaller studio and so then um I would
00:08:28.400 see Jerry and then Steve Wils and that’s
00:08:30.720 where we became friends.
00:08:32.479 >> Oprah
00:08:33.519 >> um Oprah I know. So
00:08:35.279 >> cuz she was in Chicago.
00:08:36.240 >> Yeah, she was in Chicago. So I would
00:08:37.919 listen this is this is how like I don’t
00:08:40.640 know. I probably could have went further
00:08:42.000 in my career somehow if I just would
00:08:44.800 have if I just would have just like did
00:08:46.240 things right.
00:08:46.640 >> I just would have been on time.
00:08:48.320 >> Right. That’s true too. So I lived in
00:08:52.240 Chicago on Well Street and Steman Graham
00:08:54.560 lived down the street from me in Cobbler
00:08:56.399 Square. Steedman. Great
00:08:58.160 >> down. And so I was always see Steedman.
00:09:00.000 We say hello and different things like
00:09:01.360 that. We were talking. So I knew Steman
00:09:03.120 before I knew Oprah, but I knew who
00:09:04.399 Oprah was. Everyone did.
00:09:06.000 >> And so I would be at events or something
00:09:08.959 and I would see Steman. Hey, Steman.
00:09:10.800 He’d call me over and he’d be with
00:09:12.080 Oprah. I’m like, "No, I don’t want to
00:09:13.120 meet her yet. Like, I don’t want to meet
00:09:14.320 Oprah. Like, I want to wait until I’m
00:09:15.920 like a big TV guy, you know? I want
00:09:18.800 before I meet her." Like, you know,
00:09:19.920 that’s what I want to do. And so, I
00:09:21.600 always run away from her. I always run.
00:09:23.680 So, I’m working on another movie uh with
00:09:26.959 Bill Duke, um Vanessa Williams, the
00:09:29.680 former u Miss America, um Andy Garcia.
00:09:33.200 It’s called Hoodlams. I was working on
00:09:34.560 Hoodlams and the movie. and Oprah comes
00:09:37.200 to visit the set and I ran away again
00:09:40.480 and I’m like working on the set with
00:09:42.000 these major stars as a you know I was
00:09:43.920 assistant to exec producer and I see her
00:09:45.920 and I like run and so now we’re going to
00:09:50.080 fast forward and so I would see Steph
00:09:51.920 and so now we’re going to fast forward
00:09:53.120 to I’m working here in Phoenix and they
00:09:55.120 send me back cuz she’s launching her
00:09:56.640 magazine and I had friends that worked
00:09:58.320 over that studio. I could tell you
00:09:59.600 stories at that studio. I mean it’s
00:10:01.040 every all kinds of stuff.
00:10:02.240 >> Oh yeah, I’d love to hear that.
00:10:03.680 >> I can’t. All right, we’ll off camera.
00:10:05.680 Okay. I don’t want to get in trouble. I
00:10:07.040 don’t I don’t know. I might need a
00:10:09.360 lawyer.
00:10:10.480 >> We got you. Yeah. So, fast forward. So,
00:10:13.760 they send me back to do um her new
00:10:16.320 magazine. She’s launching. And so, I’m
00:10:18.240 sitting there waiting for her to come on
00:10:19.360 set. And I’ve been in the studio before,
00:10:20.720 but not with her there. I mean, I’ve
00:10:22.000 been on this that and everything. I’m
00:10:23.360 looking stuff like that. So, she comes
00:10:24.880 in and she looks at me and she’s like,
00:10:29.120 "How do I know you? You look very
00:10:31.680 familiar."
00:10:32.160 >> Did you run?
00:10:33.040 >> So, no. No. I was so I was like so I was
00:10:36.160 like okay. So I’m like I don’t know
00:10:38.320 anything like that. I didn’t want to
00:10:39.200 jump to it yet. So I’m like okay. We do
00:10:40.880 the interview and we and I interview her
00:10:42.240 and stuff like that. And then she’s like
00:10:44.399 I don’t know. You look so familiar. Why
00:10:45.920 do I know you? I was like okay
00:10:49.360 I know Steman. I live down the street
00:10:51.680 from him. She’s like oh my goodness
00:10:53.040 you’re the boy that would run away from
00:10:54.480 me. I was like yeah.
00:10:58.000 Oh my goodness. Why would you run why
00:10:59.920 were you running away? I was like,
00:11:01.360 "Because I wanted to like be somebody
00:11:04.079 before I like talk to you." And she’s
00:11:06.640 like, "Oh my goodness." And so I go and
00:11:08.720 I wish I could find the tape and I I got
00:11:10.959 to somehow search for it. But this best
00:11:13.519 thing is that so when I’m done with the
00:11:14.640 interview, we talk and everything like
00:11:15.600 that and I say, "Okay, listen Oprah, you
00:11:17.760 know, every time you touch something, it
00:11:19.600 turns to gold. So do you mind giving me
00:11:21.360 a blessing?" And she’s like, "Come
00:11:22.800 here." She puts her hands on me and
00:11:24.320 goes, "May you find gold?" And she slaps
00:11:26.480 my face. So that’s it.
00:11:28.480 >> That is a joke.
00:11:29.440 >> Yes. And then I’m back working at the
00:11:30.800 Gap. Anyway, no kid.
00:11:32.959 >> No, they waiting for you.
00:11:34.880 >> But no, that was kind of cool. So like I
00:11:37.200 uh got to meet her then we’ll fast
00:11:38.959 forward even more. So then um I lost
00:11:40.880 touch kind of with Steman cuz just
00:11:42.959 that’s what you know when I moved away
00:11:44.399 from there. I’m working in San Diego,
00:11:46.800 right?
00:11:47.279 >> And I’m going to interview Steedman. And
00:11:49.519 I think it was the coolest thing in the
00:11:50.480 world cuz I have this photographer with
00:11:51.760 me and I told people, "Yeah, I know
00:11:53.600 Steedman’s are like, "Yeah, right, Brad.
00:11:55.120 You know’s boyfriend, you know." I’m
00:11:58.320 totally like, "Yeah." Uhhuh. And so I
00:12:00.959 get there
00:12:02.160 >> and Steman’s there and all of a sudden
00:12:04.560 Steman goes, "Brad Perry, where the how
00:12:07.279 have you been?"
00:12:08.560 >> And my my photographer goes, "What?"
00:12:12.480 And so I’m like, "Yes, how are you?" And
00:12:14.079 so we and we talk and stuff. And so
00:12:15.760 we’ve been talking. I’ll text him here
00:12:17.279 and there now. So nice.
00:12:18.480 >> I’ve been very lucky. I’ve been very
00:12:19.680 blessed in this job. people get to meet
00:12:22.160 in the different ways and stuff and
00:12:23.600 really looking back now on it and and
00:12:25.839 kind of like being wow I I’m a lucky
00:12:28.240 kid.
00:12:28.800 >> Any embarrassing moments like truly
00:12:30.720 embarrassing where you’re like I I have
00:12:32.639 to hide my face.
00:12:34.720 >> You see this is a delay tactic.
00:12:36.399 >> Other people can look at you and go Brad
00:12:39.040 if Brad Perry can be embarrassed and
00:12:41.120 move on with his life I can too. Some
00:12:43.360 inspiration for people that are
00:12:45.040 literally going like I ruined it but
00:12:48.240 they really didn’t. Well, should we go
00:12:52.079 back to those days at channel 3?
00:12:56.560 Um, where embarrassed myself? And I
00:13:01.360 guess, you know what, I don’t think of
00:13:03.120 it as embarrassment. I think it as as
00:13:05.519 learning or being me and people not
00:13:09.120 understanding me um and understanding.
00:13:11.519 So, embarrassing, I I don’t know if it’s
00:13:14.000 embarrassment. I I call it. I think
00:13:16.079 maybe um could have thought twice before
00:13:20.160 I did it.
00:13:23.279 Uh yeah, I I mean I’ll tell you when I
00:13:25.279 came here to uh Arizona to um to good to
00:13:29.040 uh Good Morning Arizona, um I was a kid
00:13:31.440 in a candy store. I mean it was my first
00:13:33.680 real like contract. I had freelanced at
00:13:36.160 WGN in Chicago and done some stuff here
00:13:38.720 and there, but now getting actually to
00:13:40.399 be on TV every day and doing what I love
00:13:42.639 doing. I just just went all full blast
00:13:45.920 of just doing everything. I mean, I left
00:13:48.079 school, so I never finished college.
00:13:50.399 Parents, well, my father’s passed away
00:13:51.519 now, but my parents at the, you know,
00:13:53.120 time were just, and they still are, even
00:13:54.480 my mother today is just go for it.
00:13:56.720 Don’t, you know what? Don’t don’t be
00:13:58.800 afraid. Go for it. Go have fun.
00:14:01.040 >> Life is very short and they were always
00:14:02.560 supportive and everything. So, I’m
00:14:04.480 trying to think embarrassing moments. I
00:14:06.399 I mean,
00:14:08.399 I don’t have I guess I don’t really I
00:14:10.399 love that. I love that because it’s like
00:14:12.480 that. She never gets embarrassed about
00:14:13.920 anything.
00:14:14.480 >> Well, I No, I just I guess more of I
00:14:17.680 guess I use the word embarrassed, but
00:14:19.040 maybe you felt like you
00:14:22.240 >> went too far.
00:14:23.040 >> Yeah, maybe.
00:14:24.000 >> You know what? There Yes, there are
00:14:25.760 times I will get home or something
00:14:27.680 going, did I go too far? I mean, even
00:14:30.240 right now at this age, too, I mean, I’ll
00:14:31.839 be honest. I mean, you can find me
00:14:33.040 sometimes at Rustler’s Roof. Um, you
00:14:35.279 know, at Rusty Spurs, I mean, at Rusty
00:14:37.279 Spurs singing on stage and then I get
00:14:38.800 home going, why did I get up there and
00:14:40.320 sing that? What was I thinking? I mean,
00:14:43.920 videos are there, do people, you know.
00:14:45.519 Yeah, there’s times that I I’ll get out,
00:14:47.199 you know, you’ll get somewhere like
00:14:48.959 maybe that wasn’t a good idea and then
00:14:50.399 you like get back and you’re kind of
00:14:51.600 like, but
00:14:52.079 >> but it’s no big deal in the end.
00:14:53.519 >> No, I think if you’re not hurting
00:14:54.480 anybody, but you’re going out and you’re
00:14:55.600 having fun, you’re putting yourself out
00:14:56.800 there, that’s what life’s about.
00:14:58.720 >> I think that’s what you have to do. And
00:15:00.480 if if you’re scared on doing that, you
00:15:03.199 won’t achieve anything.
00:15:04.720 >> True.
00:15:05.040 >> Do you find that you’re a little
00:15:06.480 protective about your your personal life
00:15:08.720 versus your public persona?
00:15:10.320 >> Yes.
00:15:10.880 >> How so?
00:15:11.519 >> I don’t have a problem now talking about
00:15:12.959 certain things my personal way where one
00:15:15.199 I’m dyslexic um really bad as I get
00:15:17.920 older and people are like, "Well, what’s
00:15:19.279 that?" It’s where um I can’t write what
00:15:22.079 I think and it comes out scribbles um
00:15:25.199 what people don’t understand or I can’t
00:15:27.199 speak or see things. So people will see
00:15:29.839 words to them but it’s different for me
00:15:31.600 and I got to like really sound them out
00:15:33.440 or readjust them. So like we’ll just say
00:15:36.079 I’ll just use like if it says today
00:15:38.000 that’s I’m just using today.
00:15:39.199 >> Yeah.
00:15:39.760 >> Today to somebody is just t o d a y to
00:15:42.560 me I might have to go to would be t wo
00:15:45.440 and then day would be like d ai or
00:15:48.240 something like that. I have to rearrange
00:15:50.480 and it’s kind of funny because we have
00:15:51.759 prompters and so
00:15:53.680 >> oh that must be hard.
00:15:54.720 >> It is hard at times and that’s why I’m
00:15:56.399 very good at improvising. So, anybody
00:15:57.920 who’s dyslexic is great at improvising,
00:15:59.839 great in creativity and everything
00:16:01.360 because it is very hard to to read or to
00:16:03.519 even get the point across and there’ll
00:16:05.279 be times I’ll, you know, mess up words
00:16:07.600 or not say things right. People always
00:16:09.120 make fun of me, but it was like I was
00:16:10.480 like I didn’t want them to know that I
00:16:12.399 was dyslexic. You know, I was kind of
00:16:14.160 like hiding it cuz I wanted to make it
00:16:15.360 seem like I was smarter than what I was.
00:16:17.680 >> So, it’s really like a coping mechanism,
00:16:19.440 that improvisation.
00:16:20.639 >> Yeah. And so, um, that is one thing that
00:16:23.839 I was really hiding that people didn’t
00:16:26.000 really know and people didn’t understand
00:16:27.120 like, wait, you’re so outgoing and
00:16:28.320 everything like that, which is another
00:16:29.680 thing. I’m a big introvert.
00:16:32.079 I’m very shy. I am very shy. So, you’re
00:16:35.360 talking about embarrassing moments.
00:16:36.399 Okay. Let’s go with that one. We’ll go
00:16:37.680 with we’ll go with me being shy.
00:16:39.920 >> Okay.
00:16:40.320 >> Okay. And so, Carl, who again, my
00:16:43.199 mentor, he had passed away. Uh, I’m
00:16:45.680 laughing at this because because Maron
00:16:47.680 totally just continues to just re me on
00:16:50.959 this. So, we’re at his celebration of
00:16:52.639 life over in LA and it’s filled with
00:16:55.600 like major star people who he’s been in
00:16:58.720 the business and stuff and I’m people I
00:17:00.399 I respect, I’m seeing and there’s Kevin
00:17:02.639 Hart, all these people and stuff and I’m
00:17:04.160 like, "Wow, you know, I should be, you
00:17:05.679 know, kind of and I’m in the corner."
00:17:10.160 >> Well, I guess with you running from
00:17:11.520 Oprah, I can see a lot.
00:17:12.640 >> Yeah. So I’m in the corner all like this
00:17:14.319 kind of and so and and not because you
00:17:17.839 know I was sad. I mean because it was
00:17:19.280 like a celebration or anything like
00:17:20.480 that. I said I’m just a very shy guy.
00:17:22.880 And Marlin comes over to me. He goes,
00:17:25.439 "Brad, Brad, listen. You’re looking like
00:17:28.000 a very bad creeper here.
00:17:30.320 >> Okay, you’re looking like a stalker and
00:17:32.320 a creeper. What’s wrong?" I go, "Well, I
00:17:34.799 don’t know these people." I’m like kind
00:17:36.000 of like I don’t know what’s going I
00:17:37.919 don’t know some of these people here but
00:17:38.960 you know you got to come out here and
00:17:40.080 get to. So like I was like so that is
00:17:42.640 one embarrassing problem right there.
00:17:44.240 That was one I just regretted that I
00:17:46.000 wish I would have talk more cuz I did I
00:17:47.919 was just standing in the corner just
00:17:48.960 looking at everybody and like
00:17:50.320 >> you know there’s like I said Kevin
00:17:51.679 Hurler who I you know no kind of I’m
00:17:53.360 like hey how are you know there’s
00:17:55.120 somebody hey weighs how you doing? So,
00:17:59.360 what was it about? Do you do you feel
00:18:01.200 like maybe a little overshadowed with
00:18:03.360 what they’ve done in their careers or or
00:18:05.760 what?
00:18:06.160 >> No, I think it’s just I think I think
00:18:08.960 I’m just a shy guy. I’m a shy kid.
00:18:12.240 >> Shy in general.
00:18:12.880 >> Shy in general.
00:18:13.840 >> I don’t think people I mean we overco
00:18:15.360 conversate without being outgoing and
00:18:17.120 doing things and stuff. And again, the
00:18:18.320 creativity and everything. I
00:18:19.520 >> was going to say but I think that
00:18:21.120 happens. I’ve said to you before like
00:18:22.720 that’s why sometimes I’ll go like we
00:18:25.200 went to Poland and these women thought
00:18:26.799 that I was snoody or people think I’m
00:18:28.559 snoody but a lot of times maybe there’s
00:18:31.280 something else on my mind or maybe I’m
00:18:33.200 doing something else because I’m on you
00:18:34.880 know I’m on our podcast or I’m doing
00:18:36.400 other things they’re like well I see her
00:18:38.000 so outgoing but then she comes here and
00:18:40.160 she’s super quiet but I’m like
00:18:42.960 >> I’m not I’m not trying to be mean I’m
00:18:46.080 just quiet or I’m thinking about things
00:18:48.320 to make sure that you know things go
00:18:50.000 well and so it can be taken off taken
00:18:52.240 differently.
00:18:52.720 >> Yeah, definitely. It gets taken
00:18:53.919 differently and it’s kind of
00:18:55.200 interesting. But I mean
00:18:57.039 >> that’s one big thing. But I don’t mind
00:18:58.400 people coming and talk to me. I’ll talk
00:18:59.520 with people, you know, but I’m just not
00:19:01.200 really the first one to jump out there
00:19:02.880 like really at sometimes and and be the
00:19:04.799 one talking. I’m like a very shy person.
00:19:06.720 >> Yeah, that makes sense. Particularly in
00:19:08.640 a group situation, not being the one to
00:19:10.480 really want to jump in and start up a
00:19:12.559 conversation. I get that
00:19:13.600 >> cuz I mean I’m over I mean I’m over
00:19:15.440 overpowering just my first I’m a big
00:19:17.600 guy. to my personality when it does get
00:19:19.600 turned on, start working and start
00:19:21.039 working the room. It’s it’s a lot to
00:19:22.400 take in. So,
00:19:23.440 >> yeah,
00:19:23.760 >> that’s it. But as we go, the personal
00:19:25.919 stuff, yeah, I do keep things just so I
00:19:28.320 can have them for me. Um, when the kids
00:19:30.640 were growing up, that was one thing I
00:19:32.640 really kind of like, you know, when I
00:19:34.559 was with them, there was no pictures or
00:19:36.320 no, you know, videos or stuff with them
00:19:37.919 and people would get upset with me. I’m
00:19:39.520 like, well, you know, it’s their time,
00:19:41.440 right?
00:19:41.760 >> Until actually the kids got old enough
00:19:43.520 to go, it’s okay, Dad. Go ahead.
00:19:45.520 >> So, I live.
00:19:46.080 >> That would have been tough. It was, you
00:19:48.000 know, I I it’s funny where um I love
00:19:51.200 telling the story as, you know, when I
00:19:53.039 was working at Channel 3, I would go out
00:19:54.400 and about and so I was at this store
00:19:57.200 ready for the morning remote and this
00:19:58.799 lady was really, you know, kind of like
00:20:00.480 standoffish to me and I just just met
00:20:02.480 her like I was just there and I was
00:20:03.760 like, "Okay, we’re doing stuff and we
00:20:05.520 did the first one." She was very
00:20:06.559 standoffish kind of was like, "Okay, I’m
00:20:08.640 like trying to think, did I do something
00:20:09.840 like that?" So I said, "Hey, listen. Um,
00:20:12.320 >> is everything okay? Is there something
00:20:13.919 we did or I did wrong?" and you know for
00:20:16.000 this I mean we got a couple more
00:20:17.200 interviews let’s you know kind of just
00:20:18.720 like
00:20:19.520 >> well my friend told me how rude you were
00:20:22.400 to them
00:20:23.520 >> like I was rude it’s like yeah you
00:20:25.520 wouldn’t take a picture with them I was
00:20:27.919 like okay well where was I well you were
00:20:30.720 at dinner with your kids
00:20:32.320 >> and they wanted a picture and you did
00:20:34.400 not take one with them and I was like
00:20:36.080 okay hold on for a second repeat what
00:20:37.840 you said you were at dinner with your
00:20:40.400 kid
00:20:41.919 oh my goodness I am so sorry I was like,
00:20:44.799 "Yeah, I was with my kids." Like, that’s
00:20:47.280 their time with dad. Like, you know,
00:20:50.000 >> and so a lot of people, you know, kind
00:20:51.679 of think and it’s it’s I understand
00:20:53.440 people back then, you know, and and
00:20:55.200 still do think that they because we
00:20:56.880 spent so much time in their house on
00:20:58.720 their TVs that they knew me and they
00:21:00.880 thought they could just walk up not
00:21:02.159 really knowing me. And I’ve had that
00:21:03.360 before, too.
00:21:04.320 >> You know, I think I was dating probably
00:21:06.159 15 women that I didn’t even know.
00:21:08.159 >> Um because they knew me from TV and they
00:21:10.240 would tell people, you know, like what?
00:21:11.840 Because I said low to them. I had one
00:21:13.200 lady who had a picture that I took a
00:21:14.559 picture with and she had it at her desk
00:21:16.240 and she was telling everybody she dated
00:21:17.440 me and she’s like what? I’m like what? I
00:21:19.039 did not date what there’s. So
00:21:20.720 >> those kind of things. Yeah. So the kids
00:21:22.559 at the time was really So I did have
00:21:24.159 that problem where people like didn’t
00:21:25.600 understand that I I was a dad too and
00:21:27.919 >> so especially I disciplined the kids
00:21:29.520 once in public and the lady was like
00:21:30.960 what are you Brad Perry is so mean. I
00:21:32.880 was like no the kid is being bad.
00:21:34.640 >> Right. Like I’m allowed like Yeah. And
00:21:37.280 so that was that. But
00:21:38.799 >> and you’re Christian though too, right?
00:21:40.320 >> Yeah. So uh so thing is I was um raised
00:21:43.280 Methodist. My father was my grandfather
00:21:46.000 was a Methodist bishop in Texas. Um and
00:21:49.360 then my father was a Methodist minister,
00:21:50.880 a mortician and a minister. So he
00:21:52.640 married and buried for my ex-wife and I
00:21:55.039 like call her and more than my ex-wife.
00:21:56.480 So Ann, the kid’s mom, my ex I converted
00:21:59.440 to be Catholic for them because she was
00:22:01.760 Catholic and her you know father
00:22:04.159 Catholic and everything. So I converted
00:22:05.520 to Catholic for them to raise the kids
00:22:07.280 Catholic. Okay. Okay. Down the line, I
00:22:09.120 kind of like just moved over to, you
00:22:11.280 know, attending Christian. So, I think
00:22:12.720 you’re, you know, I’m always a
00:22:14.000 Methodist, always a Catholic, always a
00:22:16.080 Christian. And so, that’s something that
00:22:18.240 really I’ve I’ve dove into more of
00:22:22.000 what it means to be a Christian. And
00:22:24.320 it’s really respecting everyone’s
00:22:26.480 religion. And that’s why I love
00:22:27.760 learning. I love learning about everyone
00:22:29.520 from Muslims to Scientology to Mormons
00:22:34.080 to, you know, even atheists, you know,
00:22:36.320 and kind of learning everything. And I
00:22:37.840 think that’s the biggest part with me
00:22:39.280 being, you know, a Christian, really
00:22:41.039 diving more into it. But yeah, I’m I’ve
00:22:43.120 started to go more towards my faith as
00:22:45.200 it’s kind of interesting as we get
00:22:46.240 older, I think we do, which again,
00:22:48.240 hopefully we can show younger kids and
00:22:50.559 younger people that it’s nice to embrace
00:22:53.200 it early and not later in life.
00:22:56.159 >> And I think that’s something that I
00:22:57.840 think we use example.
00:22:59.200 >> Yeah, I totally agree with that. And I
00:23:00.880 think it’s more where if I think if if
00:23:03.679 >> kids see their parents with their faith,
00:23:05.679 they’re going to learn it a little more
00:23:07.200 and not hide it. And and I and I hate to
00:23:09.280 say it takes both parents.
00:23:10.880 >> Yeah.
00:23:11.200 >> Um and one thing I love that um when we
00:23:13.520 got divorced is that I promised my uh my
00:23:17.120 dad, I still called him dad and father
00:23:19.280 that I still would take the kids to
00:23:20.640 church. That was that was in our divorce
00:23:22.799 papers. Like when we put all our stuff
00:23:24.559 together, the one thing was whoever had
00:23:26.880 the kids on Sunday had to go to mass.
00:23:29.200 And I kept it all the way up until the
00:23:30.559 kids were 18. And so that was that was a
00:23:33.440 big thing that they got to see and then
00:23:34.960 they got to make their choice after
00:23:36.159 that. But they still kind of like have
00:23:37.679 their way in faith. But
00:23:39.200 >> you know, I had to show them and now
00:23:40.720 it’s more showing them. So
00:23:42.400 >> I love that
00:23:43.120 >> example. So
00:23:44.400 >> yeah, definitely.
00:23:45.200 >> Yeah.
00:23:45.679 >> I love the kids. Like Jack follows I
00:23:48.720 don’t know what he is. I mean he’s
00:23:50.320 Christian, but he follows the Old
00:23:52.240 Testament a lot. He wears
00:23:55.840 >> the tassels.
00:23:57.280 to show that he just a reminder of God.
00:23:59.520 He believes that you by just believing
00:24:01.520 in Jesus you’re saved. But he loves all
00:24:03.840 these extra things. And I’m like cool,
00:24:05.760 you can do that. You know,
00:24:07.760 >> as long as And well, and he’s how old?
00:24:10.400 >> 19.
00:24:10.960 >> 19.
00:24:12.000 >> I will say definitely make sure he has
00:24:14.880 guidance on it.
00:24:15.760 >> Oh yes.
00:24:16.320 >> And that’s that’s important. And I think
00:24:17.840 sometimes when uh you know especially
00:24:20.159 young men they go down that path they go
00:24:22.480 alone and and that really takes them to
00:24:25.120 a a different area of understanding
00:24:27.279 religion. I think at times
00:24:29.200 >> but if there’s someone mentoring them
00:24:30.559 and taking them through that path I
00:24:32.240 think it’s really helpful and I think
00:24:34.240 especially with young men we need to you
00:24:36.880 know girls will always find someone and
00:24:39.039 always do that. But I think with us guys
00:24:41.120 we get embarrassed with it and we’re
00:24:43.039 scared of it.
00:24:43.760 >> I I believe that. I think that’s a true
00:24:45.360 statement. Yeah,
00:24:46.159 >> I think we get embarrassed and we’re
00:24:47.440 scared that we’re going to be made fun
00:24:49.279 of by our by our buddies or by other
00:24:51.600 people and stuff and we kind of like run
00:24:53.760 from it,
00:24:54.320 >> right?
00:24:54.640 >> You know, or we go overboard and I I
00:24:56.960 have friends who go overboard and like
00:24:58.480 you just got to
00:25:00.080 >> and it’s interesting because it’s like
00:25:01.840 Jack will go through phases and it’s
00:25:03.760 like if I just let him go through that
00:25:05.200 phase, I feel like versus saying you’re
00:25:07.120 wrong too. But then like you said
00:25:09.440 guiding him, you know, Ken works out in
00:25:11.200 the morning with him, our producer
00:25:12.400 Aaron, they all work out. Erin always
00:25:14.799 says in a loving way I challenge Jack on
00:25:16.960 his thoughts because he’s going to
00:25:18.159 school to be uh you know he’s getting
00:25:20.159 his degree in apologetics and all of
00:25:22.720 that through you know biblical studies
00:25:25.039 and so he’ll learn something else and
00:25:26.720 then he’ll have another class and then
00:25:28.080 the other day he goes mom I’m really
00:25:29.520 learning about Catholicism it’s cool
00:25:31.279 like I know you were raised Catholic
00:25:33.520 what was your saint and I said it was
00:25:36.559 St.
00:25:37.200 >> Monica
00:25:37.840 >> Monica
00:25:38.400 >> St. Monica.
00:25:39.600 >> Yes. And then what was weird was her
00:25:41.760 son, not weird, in coincidental, Jack,
00:25:44.720 if he were to pick a saint, it would be
00:25:46.799 Augustus. Yeah. And that’s her son.
00:25:49.679 >> That’s good.
00:25:50.320 >> So, I thought that was kind of cool.
00:25:51.840 >> What do you tell him? What do you say to
00:25:53.200 him like through him? Do you challenge
00:25:54.880 him or No,
00:25:55.440 >> Jack and I get into debates like crazy.
00:25:58.159 Yeah.
00:25:58.640 >> And admittedly, sometimes he’ll bring up
00:26:01.679 subjects and I’ll take the opposite side
00:26:03.679 just to do it. And just to push just to
00:26:06.559 push them.
00:26:07.039 >> You agree with him? But you don’t let
00:26:08.080 him know that. Great.
00:26:09.360 >> But he is he’s just he loves debates. So
00:26:11.760 we have fun with that actually.
00:26:13.039 >> That’s good. And that’s what needs to be
00:26:14.640 done. And to and I think the whole thing
00:26:16.640 is we walk away from those type of
00:26:18.799 debates, especially when it’s a when
00:26:20.080 it’s a man on man or father and son
00:26:22.320 >> with love. I mean I have him with my son
00:26:24.320 and our you know I help him with his
00:26:26.000 films and doing stuff and we have these
00:26:27.360 debates but
00:26:28.320 >> at the end of the day I text him or let
00:26:30.720 him know I love you.
00:26:31.679 >> Yeah. and we just start
00:26:33.919 >> and that’s the thing and I think that’s
00:26:35.200 the part where I think with people’s
00:26:37.039 faith and and especially mine I just
00:26:38.799 know that
00:26:39.520 >> it’s kind of interesting we can always
00:26:41.039 start the day again
00:26:43.039 >> you know in our faith we can always
00:26:44.480 start the next day
00:26:45.200 >> amen I believe that yeah
00:26:46.640 >> you know no matter what went on this day
00:26:48.320 no matter how it went what you did
00:26:50.400 >> the next day you you can start over and
00:26:53.120 >> even Pete did he can
00:26:54.320 >> so he’s trying he’s trying he’s getting
00:26:58.640 there so let’s
00:27:02.799 Why would we throw that one there? Do we
00:27:05.520 got to go there?
00:27:06.559 >> No, but I’m just saying I Everybody’s
00:27:08.960 redeemable.
00:27:09.919 >> Everybody is as long as they do it. As
00:27:12.480 long as they mean it. And they mean it.
00:27:14.159 >> And so I’m just literally like pulling
00:27:15.760 up right now like one of the worst case
00:27:18.080 scenarios and like somebody sexually
00:27:20.080 deviant, so they say. I don’t know. I
00:27:22.400 haven’t read all the stuff. Yeah.
00:27:23.840 >> But like,
00:27:24.799 >> does that make you uncomfortable?
00:27:26.080 >> No. I’m listening to you. I want to hear
00:27:27.679 this. So, my sister’s boyfriend actually
00:27:30.640 put the door back on P. Diddy’s house.
00:27:32.320 Yeah. He had just finished building
00:27:34.559 Matthew Perry’s house.
00:27:36.000 >> Oh, wow.
00:27:36.640 >> And he put that Batman symbol underneath
00:27:38.960 and everything. So, he does celebrity
00:27:40.320 homes out there. So, I asked him like,
00:27:41.919 "So, when you put on P. Diddy’s house,
00:27:43.760 the door, did you see any uh of the
00:27:46.240 lube?" He said, "No." I I figured it’d
00:27:48.559 be like dra like all over the place,
00:27:50.480 >> like draining out into like all the
00:27:53.760 memes say, "Have did you ever go to his
00:27:56.320 house?"
00:27:56.720 >> No.
00:27:58.240 No, never done a P. You know, uh I I’ve
00:28:01.200 I’ll tell you, I’ve probably have been
00:28:02.880 in circumstances that I’ve walked away
00:28:04.559 from. And that’s I’ll be honest, it’s
00:28:06.240 God probably telling, you know, or
00:28:07.840 they’re guiding me. There’s probably
00:28:09.440 situations I’ve been and I have been in.
00:28:10.960 I have been in some situations that, you
00:28:12.559 know, I’ve walked away smartly and not
00:28:14.720 been there.
00:28:14.960 >> That’s good because you hear about all
00:28:16.240 of these and you never know like they
00:28:17.760 talk about, you know, some of the
00:28:19.200 Christian bands that we have talked to
00:28:20.960 and they’re like, "We could be famous,
00:28:22.720 but we decided not to sign our souls to
00:28:24.480 the devil."
00:28:25.039 >> Yeah. And that’s the thing, and that’s
00:28:26.559 hard in this business, that you do have
00:28:28.159 to find ground with it, and you do have
00:28:30.640 to work with people that may not be on
00:28:33.200 the same faith level as you, and you got
00:28:36.320 to really balance that out. And I mean,
00:28:38.320 that’s the that’s the part where again,
00:28:40.559 there are a lot of people that worked
00:28:41.520 with P. Diddy, but never did the other
00:28:43.360 stuff with Pitting. And that’s the hard
00:28:44.799 part there. There’s two different sides
00:28:46.080 to people,
00:28:46.799 >> okay?
00:28:47.200 >> Which is which is very hard for some
00:28:49.840 people to understand. I mean, I I I’ll
00:28:51.679 bring up You bring up something Bill
00:28:53.200 Cosby.
00:28:54.000 >> Oh, right. Bill Cosby is, you know, is a
00:28:57.679 hero of mine.
00:28:58.399 >> I grew up watching him.
00:28:59.600 >> Yeah. His talent is not all the other
00:29:01.600 stuff over here. And I think people have
00:29:02.880 to realize that there’s and that’s what
00:29:04.480 we have to look at when we come to
00:29:05.679 people and we and we look again as
00:29:07.200 Christians.
00:29:08.320 >> Where’s the good in them?
00:29:09.600 >> I like that.
00:29:10.080 >> And it’s there. It’s there. But I don’t
00:29:12.559 have to agree with the other parts of
00:29:15.279 you and I don’t have to accept the other
00:29:16.880 parts of you. I can take you for this
00:29:19.039 right here.
00:29:19.919 >> I really appreciate that because then
00:29:21.600 you’re not judging the sin. too. You’re
00:29:23.679 not judging the sin. Wait, you’re
00:29:25.200 judging the sin, not the sinner,
00:29:26.720 >> right?
00:29:27.200 >> Yeah.
00:29:27.760 >> Judging the sin, not the sinner. And but
00:29:29.360 it’s also up to that person to change
00:29:32.080 their ways,
00:29:32.799 >> right?
00:29:33.279 >> And you know, I had to change my ways. I
00:29:35.919 was I mean, I was I was a rockstar mess
00:29:39.760 doing Good Morning Arizona. And you guys
00:29:41.440 had Gibby on here and you know,
00:29:43.600 >> so tell us tell us some juicy details.
00:29:45.840 >> You know, I have no tell you some I
00:29:48.320 don’t control who you know juice. No one
00:29:50.159 wants back. Well, I I’ll be honest. This
00:29:51.760 is one which um I am not ashamed about.
00:29:54.240 I talk about joking and comedy and so I
00:29:56.000 do stamp and everything. I joke about
00:29:57.200 and talk about but one was where you
00:29:59.840 know when we did Good Morning Arizona we
00:30:03.039 had free range. I mean we had two
00:30:05.600 amazing bosses that let you go and do
00:30:10.320 what you love doing. That’s what made
00:30:12.159 our show, you know, and everybody
00:30:13.679 there’s a lot of different people and
00:30:14.880 different things. A lot of people don’t
00:30:16.000 realize Terry and I didn’t get along so
00:30:17.840 we
00:30:18.240 >> Oh, I didn’t we didn’t get at all. But
00:30:19.520 now we’re best friends. Like I love her.
00:30:20.720 I just text her the other day, happy
00:30:22.799 anniversary, and then um I think she
00:30:25.120 gets back into town, we’ll go have lunch
00:30:26.880 or something. We’ll meet up or you know,
00:30:28.559 someone
00:30:29.120 >> Everybody changes over the years.
00:30:30.399 >> They do. But um so mine was and Gibby
00:30:33.200 was a lifesaver to me. I mean, I was out
00:30:35.039 partying like on a Thursday. And this is
00:30:36.880 back in the heyday, you know, when I
00:30:39.840 mean, I would pretty much be done at the
00:30:42.159 station by noon on a Thursday afternoon,
00:30:45.840 and I’d be on a private jet heading to
00:30:47.840 Vegas to play golf and hang out and
00:30:50.320 stuff. And then back in the day, there
00:30:52.080 was America West Airlines that had to
00:30:53.840 have flights back here cuz this was the
00:30:55.679 hub. So, I get on a, you know, American
00:30:57.520 West Airlines flight like maybe 1:00 in
00:30:59.520 the morning, whatever. Get back here on
00:31:01.279 a Friday morning, head to the station,
00:31:03.200 maybe in the same clothes at times after
00:31:05.520 partying, do the morning show and
00:31:07.440 everything like that, and then back on
00:31:08.640 another jet,
00:31:09.679 >> you know, back over to Vegas, you know,
00:31:11.520 and she wanted a divorce. What, sweetie?
00:31:13.600 What?
00:31:15.039 >> Uh,
00:31:16.559 what do you mean?
00:31:17.279 >> I don’t know why.
00:31:17.919 >> Kids are what, 16? They’re grown up now.
00:31:20.000 But yeah, I missed all this. No, but no,
00:31:21.760 it was that was one of the things, crazy
00:31:23.840 things I was doing. Um, and then, um,
00:31:26.960 when we go on the road, Gibby always had
00:31:29.760 a key to my room to make sure that I was
00:31:32.159 up cuz I would be out partying. And the
00:31:34.399 the crazy thing is, I mean, I’m very
00:31:36.799 lucky and again, I I owe it all to to
00:31:40.720 God that I don’t have a drinking or drug
00:31:44.000 problem. And I never did. And a lot of
00:31:46.159 people thought, you know, because I go
00:31:47.679 out partying, but I’m a social bug. Plus
00:31:49.440 also to being an introvert, you overdo
00:31:51.360 it socially. So, I wasn’t out doing
00:31:53.600 drugs and drinking stuff. I was more
00:31:54.880 out, hey, hanging out and getting people
00:31:56.399 and having fun and stuff
00:31:58.159 >> and so, but again, it gets tiring and
00:32:00.399 yes, I would have cocktails and stuff.
00:32:02.240 So, Gibby would um, you know, make sure
00:32:04.640 I was up. He come in, you know, hey, get
00:32:06.720 up. Let’s go. I think the best one I
00:32:09.039 love telling is we had gone to Vegas to
00:32:12.720 do Gloria Estan’s uh, new show, the show
00:32:16.720 they had put up at the Manite Bay and
00:32:18.159 we’ve been married there a couple of
00:32:19.120 times. I Let me tell this story and then
00:32:20.960 I’ll tell another one I love with Gibby
00:32:22.559 that’ll get him in trouble. Uh
00:32:25.200 he probably didn’t tell it to you. So
00:32:26.799 anyways, he probably doesn’t tell these
00:32:28.000 stories because he’s still working
00:32:28.960 there. So I don’t know. I don’t know
00:32:30.399 what the deal is. Um and so we had gone
00:32:33.840 there and one part of the story that I
00:32:36.000 was doing is they put me on stage there,
00:32:37.760 you know, and they filmed it cuz you
00:32:39.200 know we were doing the story next month
00:32:40.480 and next morning and so people thought I
00:32:43.039 was part of the show, you know, and so
00:32:45.039 afterwards and this and the show went on
00:32:46.720 like at 4:30, 5:00 and and then the
00:32:49.440 afterparty started at 7. So you know,
00:32:51.360 time wise because of different things.
00:32:53.200 So, we’re there after party. People are
00:32:54.480 giving me drinks. Everything thought we
00:32:55.840 You were great. You were funny. I
00:32:57.200 thought you I’m like, "Yeah." And
00:32:58.320 everything. So, Coba Toptailes and I
00:33:00.240 look down. I’m like, "Okay, it’s 9:30.
00:33:02.240 Gibby, let’s let’s roll, Gibby. Here
00:33:03.919 goes my key." I’m feeling a little tipsy
00:33:06.080 like that. So, I’m walking and all of a
00:33:08.799 sudden I look over in the high roller
00:33:11.919 room and I see my mentor who is a very
00:33:15.679 good friend. I won’t give out his name,
00:33:16.880 Bob. Anyways, uh
00:33:20.399 and a uh a certain NHL hockey player uh
00:33:23.679 who got just got traded who I know and I
00:33:25.919 see the two of them there and I’m like
00:33:27.760 whoa what are you doing here? And
00:33:29.760 they’re like well we made a stop here
00:33:31.039 before we head over head to you know my
00:33:34.080 trade like the trade happened. It
00:33:35.440 happened and everyone’s like oh my
00:33:36.480 goodness like all right. I’m like well
00:33:37.760 I’m heading up to I’m heading up to bed.
00:33:39.360 I had some drinks. I’m like no you’re
00:33:40.480 not. So Bob hands me $5,000 in chips and
00:33:45.039 the NHL player hands me $5,000 in chips.
00:33:48.480 Come on. I can’t go to I can’t
00:33:51.200 do
00:33:52.000 >> Isn’t that rude? Right. Rude. Rude. You
00:33:54.480 just can’t be a rude person,
00:33:55.600 >> right? You just I’m not spending any
00:33:56.960 money. I’m using theirs. Yeah. I’m like,
00:33:59.039 "Okay,
00:33:59.440 >> you have no reason to not sit down."
00:34:00.720 >> All right. And so I stayed. I sat down.
00:34:02.720 Of course I sat down, right? I wasn’t
00:34:04.399 gonna be rude or anything. I sat down.
00:34:06.320 So, next thing you know, uh, the next
00:34:08.239 thing I know is, uh, Giby’s kicking me
00:34:10.320 in the head. Bro, get up. We got a show
00:34:13.760 to do. Come on. He had my key. And I
00:34:16.239 don’t mind. We’ve been talking this way.
00:34:17.199 Anyway, so I’m not dressed
00:34:19.199 >> on the bathroom floor of the hotel in
00:34:22.159 the Mallay Bay. They only had nice
00:34:23.440 rooms. So, I’m on the floor with one
00:34:26.239 foot up on the uh the bathtub with a
00:34:30.879 sock on my big toe
00:34:33.679 >> and he throws a towel on me because he’s
00:34:35.440 like he throws a towel on me, right? Cuz
00:34:37.440 I’m
00:34:38.399 >> I’m nude.
00:34:39.040 >> Yeah. I’m like, "All right, okay." Yeah.
00:34:42.239 He’s like, "Get up. Let’s go." I’m like,
00:34:43.599 "I’m up. All right. I’m up. I’m up." And
00:34:45.119 so I get in the shower, get ready like
00:34:46.399 that. And I look at my clock.
00:34:48.079 >> I’m like, "I got five minutes to kill."
00:34:52.800 Oh, you know.
00:34:55.199 >> Knock knock knock. Mr. Perry. Knock
00:34:57.760 knock knock. Hi, this is Melissa. Mr.
00:34:59.760 Perry, are you Yeah. What’s up? What’s
00:35:01.119 up? Gibby said, um, the show is started
00:35:04.640 and you need to get down to the, you
00:35:06.640 know, to the show. Like, what? Oh, no.
00:35:08.960 No. And I go rushing down. We get there
00:35:10.720 and everything like that. And so, we’re
00:35:12.480 there and Gibby like all right, here you
00:35:14.480 go. Gives me the microphone and I’m
00:35:16.079 like, all right. Yeah, it’s been a great
00:35:18.720 show. And we Gibby goes,
00:35:22.800 >> "What did you just what what you what
00:35:25.280 the hell you just say? What
00:35:27.520 >> like what in the world you mouse like?
00:35:28.960 What was that?" I’m like, "And we’ll be
00:35:30.480 back." And all of a sudden, Gibby goes,
00:35:33.280 "This is your hit. This is your
00:35:35.680 interview." I’m like, "Oh, oh my
00:35:37.760 goodness. What a great time. Bob, tell
00:35:39.359 me about the show."
00:35:41.599 Guy name wasn’t Bob.
00:35:42.880 >> Oh, no.
00:35:43.520 >> Nothing like that. I’m like, "I’m sorry.
00:35:45.040 All right, back to you guys." And so all
00:35:46.560 of a sudden I get a call from my exec
00:35:48.560 producer on back then like it was like
00:35:50.880 quick moments like what’s going on like
00:35:52.480 in my ear. What’s happening? What you’re
00:35:54.480 going to what is going on there? Are you
00:35:56.400 okay? I’m like yes yes. Oh my goodness.
00:35:59.440 >> I got to get I got to get saved. And so
00:36:01.359 I call up my buddy. Thank goodness they
00:36:04.240 were leaving at the time. And so thank
00:36:06.320 goodness I caught him. I was like, "Bro,
00:36:08.800 you need to get down here right now and
00:36:10.240 save my job. You have to come in right
00:36:12.720 now cuz it’s your fault. I was going to
00:36:14.480 my room. You kept me. I know. And he
00:36:17.280 goes, "Yeah, and you lost all my money."
00:36:19.920 I’m like, "Well, no, you’re gonna, you
00:36:21.599 know, but then I went but then I won Bob
00:36:23.680 money. That was my thing. I wanted my
00:36:25.040 mentor money, but lost my other Well, I
00:36:26.960 tell you who this is." So, he comes
00:36:28.880 down. I’m like, "You got to save my
00:36:30.880 job." So, my next hit, I’m like, "I just
00:36:32.400 got to get this on." Go, "All right.
00:36:33.760 Hey, Terra. Listen, I just got to
00:36:35.280 apologize. Last night, we had a great
00:36:37.359 time. The show’s amazing." stuff like
00:36:38.800 that. But I did run into somebody who I
00:36:41.520 spent too much time with at the table
00:36:43.760 and and he’s here to save my job. So
00:36:46.560 Jeremy ran it. Talk to me, man. What’s
00:36:48.720 going on?
00:36:49.200 >> Jeremy Ron. Oh my god.
00:36:51.839 >> So Jeremy gets on and goes, "Hey,
00:36:53.200 listen, Terra. I love you all in
00:36:54.880 Arizona." Like that was his LA before I
00:36:57.200 got him. So what’s going where you
00:36:58.160 going? He goes, "Yep, I’m heading to San
00:36:59.599 Jose. You know, I’m going to miss you
00:37:01.040 guys, but I’m still going to play." Go,
00:37:02.079 okay. And we talk and everything. And
00:37:03.040 then he goes, "I love this guy, Tara.
00:37:05.359 It’s all my fault. I just want to spend
00:37:07.119 time with this guy right here. Gave me a
00:37:08.880 big kiss on the cheek. I love you, man.
00:37:10.960 And hey, you know what? I’ll be back in
00:37:12.720 Phoenix. Don’t worry like that. And so
00:37:14.800 after that, job was saved.
00:37:16.560 >> You were You were golden. I was golden.
00:37:18.880 Got the only interview with Jeremy Ro.
00:37:20.320 And Jeremy and I are still very close to
00:37:21.920 this time right now.
00:37:23.359 >> So that was So that’s Brad in this
00:37:26.800 heyday of of just trouble and stuff.
00:37:29.359 >> But then the the best one is is Gibby uh
00:37:32.880 and I go to uh go to Vegas again. It’s
00:37:35.599 the first time going to Vegas. And we
00:37:38.000 get there and I’m like, you know, hey,
00:37:40.240 we’re in Vegas. Let’s let’s come on.
00:37:42.000 They had sent a limousine for us. We’re
00:37:43.680 going out to actually Lake Las Vegas.
00:37:45.119 They were open up Lake Vegas. And the
00:37:47.040 guys who designed who developed that
00:37:48.640 actually developed uh Kierin, so they
00:37:50.960 knew they love so they were excited. So
00:37:52.480 they wanted us to come out and open it
00:37:53.680 up. And so we’re there. So Gibby and I
00:37:55.359 are driving out and we had we stopped
00:37:56.800 and got drinks. We’re like limousine’s
00:37:58.640 driving us out. This is first time. I’m
00:38:01.119 walking in with a bottle of Miller
00:38:02.640 Light, you know, have a drink. Gibby had
00:38:04.560 some Malibu and rum, you know, coming in
00:38:06.800 there and stuff. And the developers are
00:38:08.400 there and the PR people are like, "Okay,
00:38:10.160 welcome." And the developer goes,
00:38:11.760 "That’s what we’re talking about. That’s
00:38:13.119 how we start a party. All right, open up
00:38:14.400 the bars. Let’s get some drinks here as
00:38:16.240 we walk around and stuff." So then we go
00:38:18.400 around. The PR people love us and
00:38:19.760 everything. So then they take us onto
00:38:21.040 the strip to meet some other other
00:38:22.720 clients and stuff. So boom, we go. We
00:38:24.480 get in this party bus. We’re going down
00:38:26.640 to the strip. We’re there having a good
00:38:28.480 time. Everything’s going on. Some other
00:38:30.480 things happened to talk about, but I
00:38:31.760 made $300. Uh, that’s another whole
00:38:35.040 thing. So, again, why am I not back at
00:38:37.280 channel 3? I don’t know.
00:38:40.160 And now, why am I not working anymore?
00:38:41.440 We’ll see. But anyway, so very quickly,
00:38:43.680 um, we get back and we look at our clock
00:38:45.920 and the show starts at 5:00 a.m.
00:38:48.480 >> and it’s 4:15
00:38:51.520 in the morning and we’re s I’m like, "Oh
00:38:53.599 my goodness, we got to we got to go."
00:38:54.640 So, we jump on this party bus and we’re
00:38:56.000 going back and we have all these PR
00:38:57.520 girls and people on there and they just
00:38:59.119 start dropping one by one. Just
00:39:00.800 everyone’s passing out. Everyone’s
00:39:02.160 going. Gabby and I,
00:39:02.880 >> oh no.
00:39:03.359 >> We pull in
00:39:04.960 >> 15 minutes before showtime. 15 minutes
00:39:07.280 before we’re supposed to go on the air.
00:39:08.720 All right. Gibby and I look at each
00:39:10.079 other and we the PR people were like the
00:39:11.200 one people that stayed to greet us. Like
00:39:12.480 what’s what’s going to happen? You guys
00:39:13.440 got 50 minutes to go. Give us 10.
00:39:16.079 >> So I go to my room, throw water on,
00:39:17.520 change clothes. Gibby goes grabs a
00:39:18.880 camera. Boom. We’re on. We do the show.
00:39:22.079 We do the morning show. Nailed it.
00:39:23.359 Nailed it. Nailed it. Best ever.
00:39:25.280 >> Yeah.
00:39:25.599 >> Best ever. Had the director. People Oh,
00:39:27.200 Brad. That was awesome. Nailed it. The
00:39:28.880 people of Las Vegas loved us. Everything
00:39:30.960 was great. Boom. Then we have an
00:39:32.720 afternoon one. So the afternoon one we
00:39:35.839 have to do two. So I’m like, "Okay,
00:39:37.760 cool." Boom. Gibby goes back to his
00:39:40.880 room.
00:39:42.640 I’m out, you know, I come out. Mine were
00:39:44.400 ready to do the midday show as it was.
00:39:46.160 Starts at 11:00. All right. I’m there
00:39:48.160 about, you know, 10 minutes till I’m
00:39:50.960 there. The camera’s already set and
00:39:53.200 everything like that. I’m like, "Where’s
00:39:55.280 Gibby? Gibby’s not here yet." Starts
00:39:57.920 coming in. I took look at this young guy
00:40:00.079 is an intern and he’s from Phoenix for
00:40:02.320 this company that’s there or he is a PA.
00:40:04.960 I go grab the camera. Grab the camera.
00:40:06.800 Pick it up. Don’t worry. I got you. Just
00:40:08.160 follow my lead.
00:40:10.079 >> No. Gibby. Giby’s passed out in his
00:40:12.720 room.
00:40:13.359 >> Oh no.
00:40:14.320 >> Still sleep. The kid picks it up and I’m
00:40:16.880 like, "Oh my goodness, it’s a great
00:40:18.160 thing out here and everything." Gibby,
00:40:19.440 Gibby, show them the mountains. Show
00:40:20.480 them the mountains. The kid turns to the
00:40:22.000 mountains. Shows the mountain. I do the
00:40:24.320 weather and stuff. I’m like, "Hey, come
00:40:25.920 over here. Gibby, take a look at this."
00:40:26.880 Here we come over. talk and everything.
00:40:28.400 I’m calling the kid Gibby the whole
00:40:29.680 time. Gibby, oh my god, Gibby, did we
00:40:30.960 have a good time last night? Oh, yeah,
00:40:32.400 he did. I’m telling you, it’s great and
00:40:33.760 everything like that. Hopefully, I’m
00:40:35.440 doing Gibby and stuff. Yeah, Gibby
00:40:38.000 didn’t tell you that one, did he? No.
00:40:39.440 So, I told you the whole time. And so,
00:40:41.359 then we’re done with the, you know,
00:40:43.119 we’re we’re done. The kids get down and
00:40:44.880 everything like that. Gibby all of a
00:40:47.040 sudden does come out. Phone’s ringing
00:40:49.520 again. It’s the director and the
00:40:50.880 producers like, "Oh my god, Gibby, those
00:40:52.800 shots were amazing.
00:40:55.359 >> Those that was so awesome. I don’t know
00:40:57.040 how you got those or anything like that.
00:40:58.560 So, it was
00:40:59.520 >> I love that fantastic. I know. I listen,
00:41:02.160 I have to say I I love that you guys are
00:41:04.720 doing this and I love that we’re
00:41:06.079 supposed to be talking faith and stuff
00:41:07.280 so we can chop up time.
00:41:08.640 >> We did a little bit. Is there anything
00:41:09.920 you’d like to add? You tell us.
00:41:11.119 >> You know what it is where I think um as
00:41:14.400 we go through life, it’s soularching.
00:41:18.319 And my big thing is especially with
00:41:20.160 guys, it’s soulsearching time. It’s time
00:41:24.000 to talk with each other. especially
00:41:25.599 guys, you know, talking things that we
00:41:27.599 don’t usually talk about from our health
00:41:29.440 to our relationships with our marriages
00:41:31.680 or partners to our children. And I think
00:41:34.560 that is, you know, definitely being in
00:41:36.880 the faith and Christian kind of life
00:41:38.720 that we need to start bringing that back
00:41:40.240 and talking with. And I didn’t realize
00:41:42.480 how much of my dad’s, you know, being a
00:41:45.359 minister has really poured into my life
00:41:47.599 and now me. Am I a good kid? No. I still
00:41:51.760 have my flaws, which everybody has. And
00:41:53.359 I think that’s also what’s really great
00:41:54.720 is accepting that and that’s what faith
00:41:56.079 is about and being a Christian.
00:41:57.359 >> Absolutely.
00:41:57.920 >> Is accepting your flaws.
00:42:00.319 >> I never want to be perfect.
00:42:02.319 >> The day that you become perfect is the
00:42:04.079 day that you die.
00:42:04.960 >> Right.
00:42:05.680 >> And that is the whole thing that Jesus
00:42:08.720 wanted us not to be perfect but to
00:42:11.119 realize that we can always be forgiven.
00:42:15.839 And that’s why I say each morning I wake
00:42:17.440 up saying thank you for forgiving me for
00:42:19.599 whatever I did the day before and to
00:42:21.200 bless me for what I’m going to do the
00:42:22.400 day ahead of time.
00:42:23.760 >> And I tell everybody I’ll give my my
00:42:26.480 morning routine and I want everybody to
00:42:28.240 do this is that before I even got out of
00:42:31.200 bed when I open my eyes I give thanks to
00:42:34.240 God. I give thanks to God for waking me
00:42:36.800 up this morning. I thank him for
00:42:38.560 everything I have. I thank him for
00:42:40.160 everything that’s going to be. I ask him
00:42:42.160 to forgive me my sins that I’ve done and
00:42:44.000 will do. And then I get up and then I’ll
00:42:48.000 go and take a few minutes and again sit
00:42:50.079 with God before I read my Bible.
00:42:52.560 Everybody should read the Bible. I I
00:42:54.400 don’t care who you are. I don’t care
00:42:57.119 what you do. You start your morning off
00:42:59.280 reading the Bible. Read one scripture.
00:43:01.119 Read one piece. Go from the beginning to
00:43:02.560 the end. Find, you know, a a scriptures,
00:43:04.960 whatever. Even just read that same
00:43:06.160 scripture each day that you find that
00:43:07.680 hits you. But, you know, people talk
00:43:10.960 about the New Testament, the Old
00:43:12.160 Testament, doesn’t matter. And that’s
00:43:14.160 where I start my day. And I want more
00:43:15.599 people to do that because that will
00:43:16.960 definitely ground you in faith. And it
00:43:18.720 will make you like appreciate life more,
00:43:20.960 appreciate your family more, appreciate
00:43:22.400 your partner more. And it’ll make you
00:43:24.160 appreciate yourself more.
00:43:25.680 >> I think that’s where again we’re afraid
00:43:27.359 to accept our faith.
00:43:29.280 >> And there’s no problem with it. Doesn’t
00:43:30.560 mean we have to go out each day and and
00:43:31.760 and hit it, you know, yell it from the
00:43:33.839 top of the, you know, roof.
00:43:35.359 >> No, you just, you know, need to go too.
00:43:37.359 And then once a month, I’m going to give
00:43:39.760 everybody a challenge. Once a month, go
00:43:41.040 to church.
00:43:42.000 >> Pick a church. go start there once a
00:43:43.599 month. And I guarantee you after you go
00:43:44.800 that one time, you’ll continue to go
00:43:46.800 each week, even online or whatever. And
00:43:49.440 so,
00:43:49.920 >> but I even believe by you doing that,
00:43:52.240 you bring joy and light into yourself.
00:43:54.640 And then just by the way you treat other
00:43:56.560 people, they see God in the way that we
00:43:59.119 are being. And so, you know, maybe just
00:44:02.000 by them doing that, even if they’re not
00:44:03.839 going to church and, you know, maybe
00:44:05.760 once a month, which I think is fabulous,
00:44:07.520 that is a good goal.
00:44:08.880 >> Yeah. by going out. You know, Jack said
00:44:10.640 to me last week, he was speaking to
00:44:12.640 someone, a friend that was in need, and
00:44:15.520 Jack said, "I really hope what I’m
00:44:17.119 saying through the Bible is helping
00:44:18.640 him." And I said, "Jack,
00:44:20.160 >> those are living words. Whenever you
00:44:22.480 speak anything from the Bible, those are
00:44:24.400 living words." And so that’s fabulous
00:44:26.800 that someone can actually feed
00:44:28.640 themselves in the morning and go out,
00:44:30.160 then they have more of themselves to
00:44:31.599 give to others. And the thing is is that
00:44:33.839 when you, like you said, if you give,
00:44:36.640 you’ll get more back. No matter what it
00:44:38.960 is, is if it’s, you know, financially,
00:44:41.760 emotionally, or just speaking words, uh,
00:44:44.800 good words to somebody, you will get
00:44:46.480 more back. And you don’t realize that
00:44:48.319 until the next morning when you wake up,
00:44:50.160 cuz guess what? You got the pleasure of
00:44:52.400 waking up. He’s given you that pleasure.
00:44:54.079 When my father passed away, I saw what
00:44:56.800 that meant to be perfect because he’s
00:45:00.400 passed. But the part was is where when
00:45:03.599 he died and we lived in Battle Creek,
00:45:05.040 Michigan and people came out and lined
00:45:07.520 the streets for my dad.
00:45:09.920 >> Wow.
00:45:10.640 >> Lined the streets.
00:45:12.000 >> And that’s when I knew that my dad had
00:45:14.160 given so much to the community that I
00:45:16.800 didn’t know about. I had people from
00:45:18.640 around the world came to this funeral. I
00:45:20.160 didn’t know that he knew different. I
00:45:21.599 mean, there was lots of people.
00:45:24.079 >> And then people came and were giving us
00:45:26.400 money. And I’m like, "What’s this?"
00:45:28.400 this. He goes, "Well, my mother passed
00:45:29.599 away 10 years ago and we didn’t have the
00:45:31.280 money at the time and your dad said
00:45:33.119 whenever we got it to take care of it
00:45:34.640 and I I came to him about a month or two
00:45:36.560 ago before and he he didn’t take it, but
00:45:38.560 I really want you guys to have it."
00:45:40.319 >> And I go, "That’s what it’s about right
00:45:41.760 there. Your kids have
00:45:43.680 >> I mean, if they hear this, you know, I
00:45:45.680 just hope they know that they don’t
00:45:46.800 realize how much you guys
00:45:48.319 >> give back that they have no idea about
00:45:50.319 and what you going through and and the
00:45:52.160 things you’ve done."
00:45:53.520 >> You know, when there’s days I know
00:45:54.800 everybody has thought about hanging it
00:45:56.240 up. I mean, my ex and I, we hung up our
00:45:59.119 our marriage, but our relationship is
00:46:00.960 still there. We still are together for
00:46:03.280 our children. There’s never been any
00:46:04.880 bickering. We’ve always had that we
00:46:06.319 never talk ill willy about each other.
00:46:08.000 We’re always at their things together.
00:46:09.920 We still love each other. She’s the
00:46:11.200 mother of my children. I will never talk
00:46:13.040 bad about her. She deserves whatever she
00:46:14.880 needs. And that’s the way
00:46:17.040 >> that’s fantastic.
00:46:17.760 >> People So hopefully the kids understand
00:46:19.119 like that’s from you guys giving back
00:46:21.920 that keeps it solid like that. Well,
00:46:24.160 Brad, we really appreciate you sharing
00:46:26.400 your faith, honestly. Yeah. And that’s
00:46:28.079 one of the reasons why we do the
00:46:29.280 podcast, particularly with with people
00:46:31.040 like you who are in the public eye, and
00:46:33.599 so many people in the public don’t know
00:46:35.359 that side of you. And I I personally
00:46:37.920 feel like that’s so important for people
00:46:39.920 to know that that side of you exists. I
00:46:42.079 think that gives a lot of people hope
00:46:44.079 and direction and what they can do with
00:46:45.839 their lives with faith.
00:46:47.119 >> Well, thank you. And and I I kind of
00:46:48.640 like want to hopefully see people that
00:46:50.640 way, but not push it on them. Sure. I
00:46:52.400 think that’s the thing. I’m here to here
00:46:54.079 to talk about it. I have no problem
00:46:55.280 talking about it, but I’m not here to
00:46:56.240 get out there and tell you that you’re
00:46:57.520 wrong. You’re doing this wrong and stuff
00:46:58.800 like that cuz
00:46:59.599 >> Well, it’s through love.
00:47:00.560 >> It’s through love and we’re all
00:47:02.000 >> put love on people.
00:47:02.960 >> Yeah. And and we all do something wrong.
00:47:05.440 >> Absolutely.
00:47:05.920 >> That’s just the thing, you know.
00:47:07.119 >> None of us are deserving of what Jesus
00:47:09.520 did for us on the cross. So, do you want
00:47:12.000 to do the game?
00:47:12.960 >> Yeah, I’ll do what? Yeah. We have a
00:47:15.040 game.
00:47:15.440 >> We’re going to do the uh
00:47:16.720 >> What do I win? Crossexamination of Brad
00:47:19.119 Perry.
00:47:19.520 >> Oh, no. Is this
00:47:20.880 >> you hold on to these rapid fires and
00:47:22.800 it’s like they vibrate.
00:47:24.960 >> Wait, what are we doing here? What are
00:47:26.560 we doing? Rapid fire questions.
00:47:28.480 >> Rapid fire.
00:47:29.359 >> And what happens?
00:47:30.400 >> So, every time you answer a question, it
00:47:32.720 goes up.
00:47:33.599 >> Have a flavor of a of what one feels
00:47:36.160 like.
00:47:38.240 >> Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:47:40.960 Thank God I don’t have a pacemaker or
00:47:42.160 something.
00:47:42.400 >> Yeah, that’s what I was going to ask. No
00:47:43.520 heart issues? No pacemaker?
00:47:45.280 >> No. What? This is This is What is What
00:47:48.800 are you doing to me? What I getting
00:47:50.000 myself into is this. It’s like there’s
00:47:53.280 no real podcast. We just want to hook
00:47:54.720 you up to this electric thing. Listen,
00:47:56.800 that’s how we have fun. We just pull we
00:47:59.839 pull people in to see who’s going to be
00:48:01.680 dumb enough to hold on. And I’m holding
00:48:03.119 on to them. That’s the thing about it.
00:48:06.000 >> And then he’s like, that’s the crazy
00:48:07.920 thing.
00:48:10.000 What are you going to ask?
00:48:12.000 >> Questions, Aaron.
00:48:13.920 >> Okay. So,
00:48:14.960 >> question number one. You ready?
00:48:17.359 >> Yeah. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve
00:48:18.960 ever said to get out of a ticket or
00:48:20.800 awkward situation?
00:48:21.920 >> I’m pregnant.
00:48:23.040 >> If your phone could talk, what would you
00:48:25.040 test? What would it testify against you
00:48:26.880 for?
00:48:27.440 >> Oh, every night I’m out at the bar.
00:48:30.000 >> You get one superpower, but only works
00:48:31.920 in Walmart. What’s your power?
00:48:34.240 >> One superpower in Walmart.
00:48:37.359 >> I’m in Walmart and I only got one. My
00:48:40.400 superpower
00:48:41.440 >> in Walmart.
00:48:42.319 >> Take as much as I can. Oh. Oh. Oh. Why
00:48:46.480 did I get that one? What What did I do
00:48:48.079 wrong?
00:48:48.800 >> If you’re All right.
00:48:50.640 >> If you’re on trial for being lazy, what
00:48:52.960 would be exhibit A?
00:48:54.640 >> Exhibit A?
00:48:55.520 >> Yes.
00:48:56.000 >> Uh, sleeping.
00:48:57.520 >> Which snack would you defend in court as
00:48:59.839 the greatest of all time?
00:49:01.359 >> Oh my goodness. The greatest snack of
00:49:03.200 all time. Probably uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
00:49:07.839 Oh my gosh. I uh popcorn.
00:49:11.280 >> Oh, what number I’m at?
00:49:12.960 >> That’s number two.
00:49:13.920 >> Texas two.
00:49:14.960 >> Yes. Oh my god. If you could We’re about
00:49:17.760 to step.
00:49:18.240 >> If your pet could take the stand, what
00:49:20.640 dirt would they spill?
00:49:22.160 >> Would spill out me?
00:49:22.960 >> Yeah.
00:49:23.200 >> I sit on the toilet too long.
00:49:24.640 >> Okay. What’s your most irrational fear
00:49:26.800 that you’d never want cross-examined in
00:49:29.119 public?
00:49:29.520 >> My most fear?
00:49:30.400 >> Uh-huh.
00:49:31.040 >> What I wouldn’t want cross-examined? Oh,
00:49:32.720 birds. I’m afraid of birds.
00:49:34.400 >> If your GPS, what number is that?
00:49:36.640 >> Three. Oh my god.
00:49:37.760 >> If your GPS had personality, what?
00:49:39.680 >> Say it again. One more time.
00:49:40.559 >> If your GPS had personality, what would
00:49:42.400 it say about your driving?
00:49:43.680 >> Oh my goodness. You are fast.
00:49:46.319 >> Which celebrity would you want to
00:49:47.839 represent you as your lawyer and why?
00:49:49.839 >> Oh, Denzel Washington.
00:49:51.200 >> Oh, yes.
00:49:51.920 >> Yeah, he’s cool.
00:49:52.880 >> Yeah, he’s awesome.
00:49:53.839 >> What’s your go-to objection when life
00:49:55.599 gets stressful?
00:49:56.559 >> My go-to what
00:49:57.520 >> objection?
00:49:58.319 >> Objection. What do you mean? Like
00:49:59.760 example, like my objection, like what do
00:50:01.680 I object to to go when it’s life?
00:50:03.359 >> Ask an answer. Move on.
00:50:04.960 >> All right. Would you rather? Would you
00:50:06.800 rather always be per have perfect hair
00:50:08.640 or perfect Wi-Fi?
00:50:10.000 >> Oh, perfect Wi-Fi. I’m bald. Would you
00:50:12.720 would you rather your thoughts appear in
00:50:14.720 subtitles or your emotions be narrated
00:50:17.040 aloud?
00:50:18.000 >> All my emotions be narrated aloud.
00:50:21.760 >> 100%.
00:50:23.040 >> That’s fine. Five.
00:50:24.559 >> Would you rather live one day as your
00:50:26.319 favorite movie character or get to watch
00:50:28.000 your life as a movie?
00:50:29.359 >> I would Oh my goodness. There’s a new
00:50:30.640 movie coming out like that and I’d love
00:50:31.839 to watch my life as a movie.
00:50:33.440 >> Oh, okay. Would you rather accidentally
00:50:35.359 send a text? Would you accidentally send
00:50:37.119 your Would you rather
00:50:40.480 >> Would you rather accidentally send a
00:50:42.319 text to your boss or to your pastor?
00:50:45.839 >> Oh my gosh. Probably. Yeah, I go pastor.
00:50:50.240 >> Would you What was that? Six. Six.
00:50:53.280 >> Would you rather never be able to lie
00:50:55.200 again or never be able to tell when
00:50:56.960 others are lying?
00:50:57.680 >> Wait, I could never lie again.
00:50:58.880 >> You don’t lie or you can’t tell when
00:51:00.800 someone else is lying?
00:51:01.680 >> Oh, I would take I don’t care about
00:51:03.040 someone else lying. I want to lie cuz
00:51:04.800 I’m lying right now. I’m I’m like, you
00:51:06.400 don’t understand.
00:51:07.520 >> Is it really working?
00:51:08.880 >> Is it really working? What do you mean?
00:51:10.319 Is it really working? Look at the hair
00:51:11.920 standing up on this. Is really work.
00:51:14.160 What?
00:51:14.880 >> Random and unexpected. What’s a sound
00:51:16.640 you’d be found guilty of making too
00:51:18.319 often?
00:51:18.800 >> It’s a sound I made too often. Hya.
00:51:23.270 [Applause]
00:51:25.680 Say no more.
00:51:28.400 Oh my goodness.
00:51:31.040 What in the world? Background
00:51:32.160 soundtrack. What? If your life had a
00:51:34.400 background soundtrack, what song would
00:51:35.839 play every time you entered a room?
00:51:37.599 >> Oh, uh, it ain’t unusual to be loved by
00:51:40.319 Okay, I I
00:51:42.800 >> You’re suddenly famous. What rumor to do
00:51:44.880 you think you’d start they would start
00:51:46.400 about you first? If you’re famous, what
00:51:48.559 rumor would be started?
00:51:50.079 >> Oh, that I’m uh I’m dating Halleberry.
00:51:52.400 >> What’s a trend you secret?
00:51:54.000 >> What’s a what’s a
00:51:57.760 what’s a trend you secretly loved but
00:52:00.400 pretended you didn’t?
00:52:02.240 What trend you secretly love but
00:52:04.079 pretended you didn’t?
00:52:05.680 >> The macarina. Last one. Last one. If
00:52:08.960 your laughter were a currency, who in
00:52:11.040 your life would be a millionaire?
00:52:12.079 >> Say it again.
00:52:12.880 >> If your laughter were a currency, who in
00:52:14.800 your life would be a millionaire?
00:52:16.000 >> Oh my goodness. My children.
00:52:17.280 >> All right, you’re done.
00:52:18.160 >> Yeah.
00:52:23.760 >> What number did I hit?
00:52:24.960 >> Hey, you got up to eight.
00:52:26.960 >> I got to eight.
00:52:27.599 >> I think I missed going up.
00:52:29.040 >> Oh, you missed. Wow. I’m so glad.
00:52:31.280 >> Spared you a little.
00:52:32.240 >> What is this thing? It’s like a truth
00:52:34.880 thing or something, right? Is that what
00:52:36.559 it is? There’s a certain group that
00:52:38.640 probably uses that. I don’t know if I’m
00:52:41.280 allowed to say what what religion that
00:52:43.119 does that, but I think that’s what they
00:52:44.880 use. But I still held on to it and I had
00:52:47.359 the power to let go. You know, this
00:52:49.599 reminds me of actually this is
00:52:51.920 Ghostbusters written all over. Remember
00:52:54.079 when they hooked what’s his name up to
00:52:55.520 the electric bay as they asked him
00:52:57.440 questions? What in the world that is?
00:52:59.920 Just funny. But to see who can last
00:53:01.359 longer.
00:53:01.760 >> Who can last longer? That is just Wow.
00:53:04.240 >> Yes. And nobody knows that you only went
00:53:06.079 to eight. So the audience will think you
00:53:07.760 went to 10.
00:53:08.240 >> No, we just told them all we went to
00:53:09.359 eight. They’re still recording. We’re
00:53:10.720 still recording. I don’t mind going to
00:53:12.480 eight. I’m not ashamed of it.
00:53:13.839 >> No, you just shame in eight.
00:53:15.760 >> I probably could have went I could have
00:53:17.440 probably went a little more. Maybe.
00:53:19.280 >> There’s no shame in 67. 67. That’s what
00:53:22.400 all the kids are saying right now.
00:53:25.200 >> 67.
00:53:26.240 >> Okay. Okay. No.
00:53:30.960 I don’t even know what that is.
00:53:33.119 >> That’s what No,
00:53:34.240 >> you though. I don’t even know.
00:53:35.680 >> It’s nothing. It’s actually uh it’s
00:53:37.839 someone’s height
00:53:39.520 >> um that they talk about, but actually if
00:53:41.520 you go back, it’s something from the
00:53:43.119 Golden Girls.
00:53:44.720 >> Really? What?
00:53:45.359 >> Yes, the Golden Girls.
00:53:46.400 >> I love the Golden
00:53:47.520 >> Girls girls. You’ll find her. She says
00:53:48.800 67 on it. She goes, "What do they want?"
00:53:50.720 I don’t know. They they call me at six
00:53:52.079 or seven. I don’t know.
00:53:53.359 >> Oh, I love the Golden Girls.
00:53:54.800 >> No, 67 is just like someone’s height.
00:53:56.960 Doesn’t mean anything. Are you 67?
00:53:59.200 >> So, no, I’m 6’2.
00:54:00.640 >> Oh,
00:54:01.280 >> so 6’2 and a half.
00:54:03.280 >> So, I think that’s the whole thing, too.
00:54:04.319 I think you I think you just get So,
00:54:05.680 this is what you do. Just say anything
00:54:07.200 to the kids tonight. Like, you know, go
00:54:08.800 to go to Skyler. Go, hey, Skyler. So,
00:54:10.319 what do you want for dinner?
00:54:12.640 >> Think about our age and what we had back
00:54:14.800 then when we were saying stuff and our
00:54:16.800 parents said it and we were like, "Oh,
00:54:18.000 no. That’s cringe." And, you know, kind
00:54:20.160 of.
00:54:20.559 >> Yeah.
00:54:21.040 >> Yeah.
00:54:21.520 >> I don’t remember what I said back then.
00:54:22.960 I I know. I don’t either.
00:54:24.160 >> I have very few memories cuz I was a
00:54:25.680 party.
00:54:26.800 >> Yeah. So you were a part I was a crazy
00:54:28.640 girl. My dad was chief of police and I
00:54:30.880 was just talking to AD yesterday. Jack
00:54:32.960 went and recorded some and I’m telling
00:54:34.640 AD and he’s like yeah we had parties and
00:54:36.800 I said I remember this one party my
00:54:39.200 parents were up in Wisconsin. We had a
00:54:40.480 house in Wisconsin and my friend cuz my
00:54:43.359 dad was chief of police so they didn’t
00:54:44.720 really have the parties at my house
00:54:46.079 because the cops would go by. My friend
00:54:47.839 was like I’m going to invite a few
00:54:49.119 people over. I’m like okay. And we had a
00:54:50.480 raised ranch so it was like three steps
00:54:52.720 hall and then we had a finished
00:54:53.920 basement. And so my friend’s like, "Oh,
00:54:56.079 I need to talk to you for a minute."
00:54:57.760 Okay. So I’m literally up in my parents’
00:54:59.920 room. She’s, you know, crying, telling.
00:55:02.960 45 minutes later, I’m like, "I feel like
00:55:05.119 I hear a lot of people at my house. Like
00:55:07.040 I got to go out."
00:55:07.920 >> She tricked you.
00:55:08.800 >> She did.
00:55:09.280 >> Totally.
00:55:10.079 >> I go in the hallway. So many people. I
00:55:12.960 see all my parents’ herbs like on the
00:55:15.359 counter. They’re putting them in little
00:55:16.480 baggies. And I’m like, "What are you
00:55:18.160 doing?" Oh, we’re going to pretend this
00:55:19.520 is pot and sell it like it’s my mom’s
00:55:21.520 oregano and crap. So then I turn and I
00:55:24.720 see this kid and he has my parents’ fan,
00:55:28.000 ceiling fan in his hand. I go, "What
00:55:30.240 happened to there?" He goes, "Oh, I
00:55:31.680 thought it’d be fun to grab on and have
00:55:32.960 it swing me in a circle and it fell."
00:55:35.200 >> Nice.
00:55:35.760 >> So then I’m like, "Okay." So I don’t
00:55:38.480 remember what happened. The night goes
00:55:40.000 on. The next day I wake up at 5:00 a.m.
00:55:42.640 and I go, "All my parents alcohol has
00:55:44.720 been stolen pretty much." I go on the
00:55:46.880 back porch and all the rods holding up
00:55:49.280 the railing kicked out. Every other one,
00:55:51.440 somebody kicked them out. The ceiling
00:55:53.119 fans up there, but it’s like wobbly with
00:55:55.280 handprints all over it.
00:55:57.119 >> I had my brother’s room shut because
00:55:58.799 Bill’s room shut. He was Mr. OCD. Didn’t
00:56:02.079 know they went in there cuz I didn’t
00:56:03.520 look. So, I go to work, which I worked
00:56:06.240 at a tanning salon.
00:56:07.440 >> Yeah.
00:56:07.839 >> I get a call from my dad. They were
00:56:09.839 coming back from Wisconsin. It’s Sunday
00:56:11.440 night. Hey, Meg. It’s your dad. Okay.
00:56:16.880 You’re not planning on going out after
00:56:18.400 work, are you? I guess I’m not, huh?
00:56:20.799 Nope. No, you’re not. You’re coming
00:56:23.119 right back home. All right. My mother, I
00:56:27.839 guess, are is driving down the street.
00:56:30.000 They’re a half a mile. And she sees
00:56:33.119 their It says is July. They’re plastic
00:56:36.240 Santa. You know, the one with the light
00:56:38.720 laying on a lawn somewhere. And she
00:56:40.640 goes, "Bill, isn’t that our Santa?"
00:56:45.599 >> Pulls up.
00:56:46.160 >> What did you tell him?
00:56:46.960 >> Yeah. And pulls up. Oh, I I There was no
00:56:49.839 getting out of it. Yes, there was.
00:56:51.200 >> They went into my brother’s room.
00:56:52.640 >> We got robbed, Dad. I don’t know what
00:56:54.000 the hell I was at work. What in the
00:56:55.440 world went on here?
00:56:57.040 >> Oh my god, Dad. Look at my place. Where
00:56:59.839 was that? I
00:57:00.559 >> I don’t know. I used to lie all the
00:57:01.760 time. They never believed me. I said,
00:57:03.520 also because I lied too much. I was, you
00:57:06.079 know, sneaking out doing all this stuff.
00:57:08.240 My friend gave me this cuz we had a
00:57:09.839 house in Wisconsin and when we’d leave
00:57:11.359 for the summer, I couldn’t talk to my
00:57:12.480 friends because you had to pay long
00:57:13.599 distance, right?
00:57:14.319 >> And she said, "If you use the 16-digit
00:57:16.640 number,
00:57:17.839 >> your parents won’t be charged for long
00:57:19.520 distance." And I was like, "It’s just
00:57:21.119 like a magic number." Like I had no
00:57:23.200 idea. She’s like, "Yes." So every time I
00:57:25.599 call, I put in the magic number and my
00:57:28.000 parents. All of a sudden, Megan, get
00:57:31.200 downstairs. Yes. Have you been using
00:57:35.520 Charlene Lakes uh credit card number?
00:57:38.559 I’m like, "No, you haven’t been calling
00:57:42.000 long distance." And I’m like, "No, but
00:57:43.440 there’s a magic there’s no magic number.
00:57:47.200 It was a credit card. calls you two meet
00:57:51.920 on J date Date.
00:57:52.799 >> On J date Date?
00:57:53.680 >> Yeah.
00:57:54.079 >> My sister put me on there.
00:57:55.680 >> Wait, on Jay Date?
00:57:56.799 >> Yeah.
00:57:57.040 >> Yes. What were you doing on J?
00:57:58.400 >> I was a Shixa to be with you.
00:58:01.440 >> What?
00:58:01.839 >> I was a Shika to be It was Shika to be
00:58:04.160 with you. And I was married to Jack’s
00:58:07.200 dad for nine years. And then he was
00:58:09.280 married for nine years. He had been
00:58:10.480 already going through a divorce for a
00:58:11.680 year. My sister was married to a Jewish
00:58:13.680 guy. And I’m like, "Yeah, they’re cute.
00:58:15.040 I like their dark skin and their like
00:58:16.799 their hair and all their features. And
00:58:19.040 so she’s like, "I’m going to put you on
00:58:20.480 there." And I’m like, "Okay." So then
00:58:23.280 within like two days, I had like 86
00:58:25.760 messages. I had some guy that owned a
00:58:27.520 comedy channel in LA wanted to fly me
00:58:29.359 out, but he looked like a douchebag cuz
00:58:31.040 he had like his shirt open with like the
00:58:32.640 chains and crap.
00:58:34.079 >> And I’m like, "Okay." So day three,
00:58:37.359 >> I see my my mailbox is still blinking
00:58:40.079 cuz I didn’t go through them all. And I
00:58:41.760 see his face with this yellow shirt. I’m
00:58:43.680 like, he’s so cute. So that night I call
00:58:46.400 him and we’re talking. Fourth time I tal
00:58:50.000 I think I talked to him four times. I
00:58:51.359 decided to do a lawyer joke and he goes,
00:58:53.599 "You do realize I’m a lawyer?" And I
00:58:55.839 said, "Um," he goes, "Did you not read
00:58:58.000 my profile?"
00:58:59.680 >> I was like, "No, I just thought you were
00:59:01.280 cute." And so I didn’t care what you
00:59:03.680 did. I just thought you were cute. He
00:59:05.599 was in Florida. I was here.
00:59:06.880 >> Oh, wow.
00:59:07.440 >> Yeah.
00:59:07.680 >> Yeah. So we had a long-distance
00:59:08.799 relationship for a year.
00:59:10.319 >> Wow.
00:59:11.200 >> Yeah. And so, and and you’re Jewish.
00:59:13.520 >> Yeah.
00:59:13.839 >> Oh, I didn’t know that.
00:59:14.720 >> He’s he’s born again. He’s a Messianic
00:59:16.799 Jew now.
00:59:17.359 >> God. He’s baptized. Wow.
00:59:19.520 >> So, he talks about all the lies he was
00:59:21.440 told being Jewish, unfortunately.
00:59:23.280 >> Well, no, I think that’s awesome. I
00:59:24.880 would love to sit I mean, do you sit and
00:59:26.319 talk about that with people?
00:59:27.520 >> He has been lately. Yeah.
00:59:28.720 >> Yeah.
00:59:29.200 >> So, you you did a baritzvah and
00:59:31.040 everything. Did you? Oh my goodness.
00:59:32.799 See,
00:59:33.920 >> my parents started the Jewish synagogue
00:59:35.920 in this small town that I grew up in.
00:59:37.440 >> Wow.
00:59:38.000 >> Yeah.
00:59:38.720 >> How they feel with you leaving? We
00:59:40.880 haven’t talked about it a whole lot
00:59:42.319 honestly. Yeah.
00:59:43.280 >> I told them years ago when I first got
00:59:45.920 baptized and I was expecting them to,
00:59:48.640 you know, rip this shirt and, you know,
00:59:51.040 disown me and all that and they didn’t.
00:59:52.559 They were
00:59:53.440 >> they were uh better than that, but we
00:59:55.599 obviously don’t see eye to eye on a lot
00:59:57.280 of things.
00:59:57.760 >> Yeah. So, let me ask you. So, this is
01:00:00.160 one thing that uh I I love talking to
01:00:02.319 people about is that there is Jewish and
01:00:05.920 then there’s Jewish religion,
01:00:08.160 >> right? So, are you Jewish or Jewish
01:00:11.119 religion?
01:00:11.599 >> He’s just finding out about this.
01:00:12.960 >> That’s that’s a deep deep subject. And
01:00:15.280 so, it’s raised socially and culturally
01:00:19.440 in the Jewish religion, but the
01:00:22.480 genealogy goes back to Eastern Europe.
01:00:24.960 It doesn’t go back to
01:00:26.400 >> to Israel. Ashkenazi Jews really aren’t
01:00:29.359 bloodline Jews, but they’re taught that
01:00:31.119 they are.
01:00:31.920 >> Wow. See, that’s that’s one thing that,
01:00:33.760 you know, we’re talking I’ve talked to a
01:00:35.200 couple people, you know, when it comes
01:00:36.240 to Muslims, when it comes to Catholics,
01:00:38.319 when it comes to, you know, the
01:00:40.000 different um religions, but also the
01:00:42.640 different people,
01:00:43.359 >> right?
01:00:43.839 >> And and that’s where I think people lose
01:00:46.319 that and get lost in that faith-wise or
01:00:49.520 again or just pretty much putting
01:00:51.359 someone in a box,
01:00:52.319 >> right?
01:00:52.799 >> And not talking to them about it and and
01:00:54.799 asking the questions and and wanting to
01:00:56.240 know. Well, and the funny thing is, and
01:00:58.000 that’s what we’ve talked about a lot on
01:00:59.280 the podcast, too, is
01:01:00.960 >> that that background is really kind of
01:01:04.160 not touched on by the Jewish community.
01:01:06.160 It’s kind of glossed over a little bit
01:01:08.079 and it’s really it’s really
01:01:10.240 >> not something you really discuss.
01:01:11.839 >> And it’s kind of interesting that the
01:01:13.520 people I’ve talked with and I’ve talked
01:01:14.960 with people who are Jewish in the
01:01:17.280 bloodline and then people who are Jewish
01:01:19.280 religion, right? And there are Jewish
01:01:21.760 Christians, right,
01:01:22.960 >> from that and Jewish, you know, Muslims,
01:01:25.359 everything because that’s the bloodline,
01:01:26.640 but then there’s the religious part.
01:01:28.480 >> It seems like the religious part takes
01:01:30.640 over more than the actual bloodline
01:01:33.359 part, correct? Which is kind of
01:01:34.559 interesting. So,
01:01:36.400 >> um, my interpretation and what I’ve said
01:01:39.359 here lately is it’s a very closed
01:01:43.280 community and it’s intentionally closed.
01:01:45.839 They make it hard for people to convert
01:01:47.599 to Judaism and they really frown on
01:01:50.960 people going outside of Judaism.
01:01:53.599 >> It’s it’s almost I mean I feel that way
01:01:56.400 a little bit when I when I talk with
01:01:57.760 people who are Mormon too. It’s kind of
01:01:59.680 interesting where there’s the different
01:02:01.200 and that’s a religion,
01:02:02.240 >> right?
01:02:02.880 >> Not the whole like cultural background
01:02:06.000 and everything like that. It’s very
01:02:07.200 interesting where again people look at I
01:02:09.280 think that’s one problem that we have in
01:02:10.640 this world.
01:02:11.119 >> Yeah. I think we have a problem where my
01:02:13.839 religion’s better than yours or better
01:02:15.440 than that person. If you leave it,
01:02:16.799 you’re no good. And I don’t think that
01:02:18.240 is what is meant to happen. And that’s
01:02:20.640 not what Jesus wanted.
01:02:21.920 >> No.
01:02:22.319 >> I think the main thing was loving
01:02:23.760 people, understanding them, no matter
01:02:25.760 who they’re worshiping. You know, that’s
01:02:28.640 interesting. Well, yeah, I do. I always
01:02:30.400 wonder about that because that’s one
01:02:31.599 culture I I you know, been to Israel and
01:02:34.400 then my brother who is a mortician in
01:02:35.839 Florida, he’s very much loved by the
01:02:38.000 Jewish community. He actually does their
01:02:39.599 funerals and everything. Oh, is that
01:02:40.640 right? Oh my gosh. He’s like he’s he
01:02:43.040 they fly him to places. Wow.
01:02:44.880 >> And actually um the more the funeral
01:02:47.040 home that he was working with pulled him
01:02:48.880 off of the Jewish funerals and was gave
01:02:50.880 it to somebody else. And the rabbi is
01:02:52.880 like, "We’re not dealing with this
01:02:54.480 person. If you don’t have Brent here,
01:02:56.720 we’re taking all our business to another
01:02:58.960 and literally they drove my brother over
01:03:01.440 to meet with the rabbi for one of the
01:03:03.359 funerals."
01:03:04.000 >> Wow.
01:03:04.240 >> Where’s he at in Florida? K.
01:03:05.440 >> He’s in Jacksonville.
01:03:06.480 >> Okay.
01:03:06.960 >> Jacksonville, Phoenix.
01:03:07.760 >> Okay. So, as you’re as you’re
01:03:09.599 discovering more and and so you are,
01:03:11.599 right? You’re each day you’re
01:03:12.640 discovering
01:03:13.200 >> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
01:03:13.920 >> more what you were taught and what But
01:03:15.839 do you guys do you talk with Jack? It’s
01:03:17.520 Jack, right? Do you talk to him about it
01:03:19.520 and just
01:03:20.079 >> without a doubt because he has such an
01:03:22.000 interest in the Old Testament and
01:03:24.880 following all of those traditions and
01:03:26.960 even down to the the the holidays and
01:03:29.440 he’s asking me questions constantly
01:03:31.359 about them. The the tent structure that
01:03:33.839 was in the backyard.
01:03:34.960 >> Yeah. the the holiday suit coat just
01:03:38.160 finished and so Jack insists on having
01:03:40.960 that where we sleep outside together
01:03:42.799 under the sky and
01:03:45.039 >> forunately it rained a lot so we didn’t
01:03:46.720 have to
01:03:47.039 >> he doesn’t want to but he does it for
01:03:48.720 Jack which is
01:03:49.440 >> rather be in bed
01:03:51.440 >> well but to to help him learn hopefully
01:03:53.200 and that’s I said they it’s it’s about
01:03:54.799 guidance I think that is where
01:03:56.799 >> I think with anything that comes to
01:03:58.559 religion is is to have a guidance
01:04:00.960 >> and and have a couple of them have a
01:04:03.200 couple of different people
01:04:04.400 >> yeah guide you. I do too. I mean, I
01:04:06.079 have, you know, I have Pastor Todd with
01:04:07.839 Impact Church. I have Pastor Pastor
01:04:10.079 Miles. But yeah,
01:04:12.000 >> pre menopause.
01:04:12.799 >> Um, I have him, you know, those two
01:04:14.880 differently. And then also I I, you
01:04:16.319 know, have different books I read and
01:04:17.920 and everything. But
01:04:19.200 >> it’s so clear to me though that
01:04:21.920 Christianity is
01:04:24.480 the natural extension of Judaism. It is
01:04:27.280 the next step in in the progression of
01:04:30.400 faith.
01:04:30.880 >> Yeah. And I think you doing that helped
01:04:33.920 probably you move forward.
01:04:35.280 >> Oh yeah.
01:04:35.680 >> And and I think more people need to. I
01:04:37.359 like I said I think the biggest part you
01:04:38.559 said I think too many religious
01:04:40.400 communities close their self off for
01:04:42.400 whatever reason and do not open those
01:04:44.400 doors up to let people step out uh to
01:04:48.960 discover and to see and then come back,
01:04:51.039 >> right?
01:04:51.440 >> You know, and I think that’s that’s the
01:04:53.440 thing is it’s kind of funny. There are
01:04:55.039 the um they’re not Amish, but they’re
01:04:57.280 Menites. Is that right? And I love where
01:05:00.160 and people get them confused, but the
01:05:01.599 Menites, you know, pretty much the boys
01:05:04.480 get to the kids get to a certain age and
01:05:06.000 they send them like there’s a TV couple
01:05:07.520 reality shows and they get to go out
01:05:09.280 into the world to see what goes on and
01:05:11.599 it’s up to them if they want to come
01:05:12.799 back or if they want to stay in the in
01:05:14.559 the world. And I think they also I think
01:05:16.319 the Amish do it too maybe. I’m not for
01:05:18.640 sure.
01:05:19.119 >> I know the Mormons Oh, no. The Mormons
01:05:21.359 sent them out. the Mormons, they they go
01:05:22.720 out on missions. And so that’s that’s a
01:05:24.880 very interesting one too that I’ve
01:05:26.400 learned and I’ve sat with some of the
01:05:27.839 mission kids and I know some Mormon
01:05:29.440 people and I think that is I think every
01:05:31.039 kid should I think every kid no matter
01:05:33.200 what the religion should go out into the
01:05:35.760 world to to learn and to spread the word
01:05:38.559 in a certain way.
01:05:39.520 >> Sure.
01:05:39.839 >> You know, and I the only thing I I mean
01:05:42.799 >> I I don’t think it should be a quot. I
01:05:45.440 don’t think it should be how many people
01:05:47.039 I’ve I’ve talked with. It’s about just
01:05:48.960 touching people,
01:05:49.680 >> right? But yeah, I think every I think
01:05:51.440 every kid needs to go out like the
01:05:53.680 Mormon uh kids do and and
01:05:57.599 learn the world. And hopefully he is
01:05:59.599 exploring. So he is he planning on going
01:06:01.119 to Israel or anywhere or
01:06:02.559 >> I’m sure he would love to. Yeah,
01:06:04.079 >> he’s been to Poland.
01:06:05.039 >> We’ve been on several missions.
01:06:06.160 >> Missions trips to Jamaica, Poland.
01:06:08.640 >> But he’s since he’s he can get the uh
01:06:10.880 Jewish uh
01:06:11.680 >> No, Jack’s not Jewish. He’s my Yeah,
01:06:14.079 he’s not mine.
01:06:14.480 >> He’s your Okay. So he’s doing Okay.
01:06:15.839 >> I’m his stepfather. He ended up Jack Ken
01:06:18.160 said
01:06:19.039 >> Ken said he felt more back to the Jewish
01:06:21.920 religion because of Jack because Jack’s
01:06:24.160 so we go to a syn where do we go bar
01:06:26.960 >> it’s a messianic synagogue.
01:06:28.960 >> Yeah.
01:06:29.280 >> Over out in this way. So Jack always
01:06:31.200 wants to because Jack follows
01:06:32.640 religiously not because it makes him
01:06:34.799 saved because he likes to give he likes
01:06:36.640 to show his love for Christ but he does
01:06:38.559 Shabbat every week Friday night through
01:06:40.880 Saturday night.
01:06:41.920 >> Yeah. He’s well, he’s learned the
01:06:43.280 different ways and and
01:06:44.079 >> right
01:06:44.640 >> if he wants to walk in the path of the
01:06:47.760 Old Testament, he really needs to know
01:06:53.200 why he’s walking. Especially right now,
01:06:55.359 the way our our world is, the way things
01:06:58.079 are, it’s back to it’s back to faith,
01:07:02.079 you know, and it’s back to loving. It’s
01:07:04.160 back to just love.
01:07:05.440 >> It’s got to come down to that. out the
01:07:07.280 other day reading and also in church. It
01:07:10.319 talked about the uh two sons, you know,
01:07:13.280 the one son went away and, you know,
01:07:15.680 spent up his money and did all this
01:07:17.200 stuff and everything like that. The
01:07:18.319 other one stayed home, took care of the
01:07:19.520 farm and everything. And then when the
01:07:21.440 younger child was coming, the young son
01:07:23.760 was coming home, the dad saw him, ran
01:07:25.839 out and kissed him on his neck and
01:07:27.760 welcomed him in and cut, you know, and
01:07:29.520 sacrificed the best lamb for him and
01:07:31.760 brought him in and stuff. And then the
01:07:33.119 older brother came out and said, "What
01:07:34.559 are you doing? I’ve been here all this
01:07:36.240 time. I’ve been wound.
01:07:37.599 >> You know, and the dad says he was lost
01:07:40.799 and now he’s found and come back to us.
01:07:43.039 >> Right?
01:07:43.520 >> And I think that is what we need to do
01:07:45.359 is show those people that are lost that
01:07:48.319 we’re here for you.
01:07:49.599 >> Beautiful. Beautiful.
01:07:50.720 >> Come back. And and it’s by example. You
01:07:52.559 know actually today’s scripture John 4
01:07:54.880 through5 um reading about you know the
01:07:59.119 uh example that our father has given us
01:08:02.000 and God gave Jesus you know example of
01:08:04.799 being kind. He just didn’t learn on his
01:08:06.480 own. So if we follow our father’s
01:08:09.119 examples of love it pushes us better to
01:08:12.720 closer to God. It’s beautiful.
01:08:14.480 >> Yeah.
01:08:15.680 >> I love it. So
01:08:16.799 >> I think it’s great. I love I love
01:08:18.479 getting to see the inside of you guys
01:08:20.719 when you come in here. It’s like you
01:08:22.399 think you know somebody, but then when
01:08:23.679 you see that personal side, it’s just
01:08:25.839 like a little gift. I just love that.
01:08:28.158 >> And and it’s really hard for TV people
01:08:30.080 to show it because we are looked at a
01:08:31.600 different way and and then when we step
01:08:33.679 out from this, when someone watches
01:08:35.040 this, they’re going to, you know, look
01:08:36.719 differently and stuff. I mean, it’s but
01:08:38.799 again, we are we are given a gift and I
01:08:40.719 and I’m sorry we’re going longer with
01:08:42.960 this. I mean, even when we were talking,
01:08:44.880 >> I’m just sitting here and I’m like, you
01:08:45.920 know what, it’s like there’s there’s
01:08:47.040 sometimes where we we’ll end it and then
01:08:48.719 I feel like God is guiding it too, you
01:08:50.719 know, always.
01:08:51.600 >> I think everybody has to realize you
01:08:54.080 have a gift, you know, that is there and
01:08:56.640 you use it the right way, it’s amazing.
01:08:59.120 And I use, you know, the example and I
01:09:01.279 always tell this story is that when I
01:09:02.880 was doing Good Morning Arizona, we would
01:09:04.560 go on the road and we were up north one
01:09:06.960 time and this lady comes to where we’re
01:09:11.120 at and I always got joked about it from
01:09:12.960 the guys. Oh, there’s another fan out
01:09:14.479 there looking for you. Haha, Brad. Ho
01:09:16.319 comes. So ladies there and so I come out
01:09:18.799 of the truck when I was just doing some
01:09:20.399 work and I say, "Hi, how are you?" And
01:09:21.759 so she’s holding the envelope and she
01:09:24.640 goes, "I’ve been waiting almost three
01:09:28.719 years to rip this up with you." I’m
01:09:31.920 like, "What do you mean?" She goes,
01:09:33.439 "This was my suicide letter. I was
01:09:35.759 writing at my kitchen table." And I was
01:09:38.158 about to commit suicide. You came on TV
01:09:41.120 and you did something this had me
01:09:43.040 laughing and laughing and laughing.
01:09:45.040 >> Oh my gosh.
01:09:45.600 >> And I stopped.
01:09:47.359 >> A. and I held him this letter so when I
01:09:49.679 met you we could rip it up together.
01:09:52.479 >> Oh, I love that.
01:09:54.000 >> That’s what it’s all about.
01:09:55.520 >> And that is what we have to realize just
01:09:57.840 things that we do is saving someone’s
01:09:59.760 life. You guys do it with your giving
01:10:01.360 back to the community. You do it when
01:10:03.199 you help someone, you know, with the
01:10:05.120 problem legally, you know, doing the
01:10:07.520 podcast, your kids and stuff like that.
01:10:10.159 And that’s what we’re Yeah. I think
01:10:11.840 we’re saving someone’s life. You might
01:10:13.440 not realize it, but you are. And that’s
01:10:15.280 through the faith and that’s through
01:10:16.880 you’re doing. So your son is going to be
01:10:19.920 saving someone’s life when he realizes
01:10:21.840 what his walk is and all you can do is
01:10:25.760 support him.
01:10:27.120 >> Definitely.
01:10:27.679 >> I love that. That’s so beautiful. Was
01:10:29.600 there a and I know we are running over
01:10:31.199 but was there a pivotal moment when you
01:10:32.880 became that you know you when you was it
01:10:35.760 your divorce or was that pivotal moment
01:10:37.600 where you said you know what I want to
01:10:39.199 do different be different?
01:10:40.480 >> It was my daughter. It was my daughter.
01:10:42.640 So what happened was when I moved to San
01:10:44.400 Diego, my son came to live with me and
01:10:48.400 I just wasn’t doing it. I mean, I was
01:10:50.080 still being like a little frat boy and I
01:10:51.920 had this, you know, young kid with me,
01:10:53.440 young guy, you know, and he was going to
01:10:54.960 school. I’m still out there doing stuff.
01:10:56.960 Having ladies over to the house, even
01:10:58.560 though I’m divorced and whatever, you
01:11:00.000 know, boom, boom, boom. And he talked to
01:11:03.840 his sister and said, "Just dad’s driving
01:11:05.600 me crazy. I don’t like what he’s doing.
01:11:06.880 I don’t know how to talk to him. I got
01:11:07.920 to live with him. Is this a punishment?"
01:11:09.199 Blah, blah, blah. And so she handed me a
01:11:11.600 book that said, "You are a badass."
01:11:14.640 That’s a she I don’t know if you heard
01:11:16.000 it’s called, "You’re a badass."
01:11:16.960 >> No, I don’t know that. I don’t know.
01:11:18.159 >> I suggest you get it. It’s You’re a
01:11:19.360 badass. And so I read it. But that was a
01:11:22.480 wakeup call to me is that my kids kind
01:11:24.960 of like said, "Hey, Dad, you got this
01:11:27.360 young man, you know, my s my daughter is
01:11:29.440 like, you know, you got Tanner who is
01:11:31.360 kind of getting angry. Like you got to
01:11:33.280 work it out." So that was a pivot when I
01:11:34.800 was like, you know what? I got to do
01:11:36.960 better. I got to be better. You know,
01:11:39.199 >> I I feel like that that in every man’s
01:11:42.880 life, there comes a time where it dawns
01:11:46.719 on you, I got to quit being a boy. I got
01:11:50.800 to be a man.
01:11:51.600 >> Yeah. And there’s nothing wrong with it.
01:11:53.520 And there’s and you still can have fun.
01:11:55.199 There’s still things you could do. But I
01:11:56.800 think the the main thing was is that I
01:11:59.520 stopped and said, "What’s my legacy
01:12:01.520 going to be?"
01:12:02.080 >> Right? And I think, you know, you stop
01:12:04.560 and and thing, as I said, boys, kids,
01:12:06.640 kids follow your your your example. They
01:12:08.960 do to a point and everything like that
01:12:10.239 and they and they will. And I will say,
01:12:12.000 you know what, I love my my
01:12:13.840 daughter-in-law
01:12:18.400 us to drink, right? I’m like, what?
01:12:20.400 Yeah. You taught us how to party, right?
01:12:21.679 Like, it’s not about going out and
01:12:22.880 drinking, getting drunk. It’s about
01:12:24.080 going and having fun and stuff. So, they
01:12:26.080 don’t like, you know, get drunk and
01:12:27.920 anything like that, but it’s like, you
01:12:29.040 taught us that. I’m like,
01:12:29.840 >> thank God something positive came from
01:12:31.199 it, right? I’m glad. I’m like, "All
01:12:32.400 right,
01:12:32.719 >> that’s funny cuz I’ve taught Skyla a
01:12:34.480 little bit about that. Skyla, this is
01:12:35.760 all this is this and this is you don’t
01:12:37.679 want to be that lush on the ground.
01:12:39.040 You’re never going to meet the right guy
01:12:40.560 if you’re the you know, like I" and I go
01:12:42.719 and beyond that it’s fattening. She’s
01:12:44.400 like, "What
01:12:47.600 >> Jack doesn’t want to drink,
01:12:49.040 >> right?" And so it’s I think the thing
01:12:50.800 was the pivot was the legacy. And I
01:12:53.440 think about the legacy my grandfather
01:12:55.120 left. I think about the legacy my father
01:12:57.600 left. And it was about my faith. Those
01:13:01.840 are the two things he left. Dad, you
01:13:03.360 know, passed away as a as a, you know,
01:13:05.440 as a pastor. Grandpa was a pastor. And
01:13:08.000 so, it’s like I don’t think I ever
01:13:09.360 become a pastor. But I think just
01:13:11.120 sharing the faith and believing and
01:13:13.360 helping people understand it’s okay.
01:13:15.040 >> Yeah.
01:13:15.440 >> Someone asked me about my faith. I’m
01:13:16.640 going to tell you, I’m in church, you
01:13:18.640 know. I cold plunge. I do things to get
01:13:20.560 closer to God for myself, but also to
01:13:23.679 help other people. And that’s what we’re
01:13:25.440 we’re here for. You know, I mean,
01:13:27.520 >> you’re real.
01:13:28.320 >> Yeah, that’s I try to be. It’s scary. As
01:13:30.239 I said, TV person. Yeah. You know, we’re
01:13:32.000 supposed to have this part where they
01:13:33.360 see us and everything. Now, if they see
01:13:34.400 us differently, are they going to use it
01:13:35.600 against us? Whatever.
01:13:37.440 >> Yeah. They will. We’re insecure. We’re I
01:13:39.360 mean, I’m I’m insecure. I’m still a kid.
01:13:41.280 I’m still a baby at times, but as you
01:13:43.440 said, I need to do better. And it was
01:13:45.120 when the kids kind of like said that and
01:13:47.360 I think I would have come around. God
01:13:49.520 God gives you signals.
01:13:50.880 >> Yeah. Yeah, he tells you, you know, he
01:13:52.400 says, I mean, he so literally he gave me
01:13:54.800 signals when I left uh San Diego. I
01:13:57.040 mean, I left a six-f figureure job
01:13:59.040 >> and came back here with nothing, you
01:14:00.960 know, but he’s got me. I still got
01:14:02.800 nothing. But listen, every day I’m
01:14:04.320 waking up thankful going forward.
01:14:07.040 >> Bills are going to be bills. They got to
01:14:08.800 be paid somehow. Somewhere down the
01:14:10.159 line, they will be. I don’t know who’s
01:14:11.600 going to pay them.
01:14:12.159 >> I know. Well,
01:14:12.800 >> you know, one day when you’re in a house
01:14:14.640 across the street,
01:14:15.440 >> Yep. I know how to avoid the phone call.
01:14:17.440 is, you know, I know how to, you know,
01:14:20.239 if they send an email or text, I know
01:14:21.760 how to do it. You know, I just kind of
01:14:23.600 like, you know, as
01:14:24.480 >> I know. I figure one day I’ll be dead.
01:14:26.239 You don’t have to owe anything,
01:14:27.440 >> right? You’ll come get me. No. Yeah.
01:14:28.800 Yeah. Find me. I mean, that’s it. So,
01:14:30.719 that’s a blessing. So,
01:14:32.480 >> I I feel like you mean so much to the
01:14:34.320 entire valley with your your on air
