Bad Bunny Controversial Haltime Show & Christians Getting Out Of Hand!
00:00:00.719 So, if Jesus went to the Super Bowl and
00:00:04.160 he watched the halftime show, would he
00:00:06.160 protest it? Would he walk out? Or would
00:00:08.800 he sit and watch it with everybody else?
00:00:10.960 We’re going to address that here today.
00:00:12.880 >> Hey, Meg. How’s it going?
00:00:14.080 >> Good. How are you?
00:00:15.040 >> Good. So, what do we got on tap today?
00:00:16.480 >> Well, we have Bradley Ree, Pastor
00:00:19.039 Bradley Ree, who’s also a musician.
00:00:21.840 >> I am.
00:00:22.800 >> And we thought we’d invite him here
00:00:24.480 today to talk about that exact subject.
00:00:27.279 What do we do as Christians um that have
00:00:30.720 families? How do we guide our families
00:00:33.760 through such a crazy time where sexually
00:00:37.600 explicit things are everywhere? And
00:00:40.800 talking about the Super Bowl, what do we
00:00:42.640 do with that? Do we turn off the
00:00:44.079 channel? Do we go to watch something
00:00:46.320 else, TPUSA, or do we just teach
00:00:48.879 discernment? Because if our kids are at
00:00:50.079 a friend’s house, they can’t always just
00:00:51.360 turn off the TV. So,
00:00:53.199 >> welcome. Well, thanks guys for having
00:00:55.120 me. Oh, yeah. It’s uh I’m excited to say
00:00:58.320 that. I’m excited. So,
00:00:59.760 >> so I I’d like to uh first of all, Megan
00:01:03.280 said a couple of things. You’re you’re a
00:01:05.040 pastor. You’re a teacher at a Christian
00:01:07.119 school.
00:01:08.080 >> Uh you have a band who plays secular
00:01:11.600 music, at bars,
00:01:13.760 >> everywhere.
00:01:14.240 >> So, you’re kind of living right in the
00:01:16.000 midst of this exact topic where you can
00:01:18.880 be on a Saturday night playing at a bar
00:01:21.360 and Monday morning teaching the Bible.
00:01:23.439 >> Yeah. And uh let’s just say um we’ve
00:01:26.720 been I wouldn’t say we’ve been torn, but
00:01:28.560 uh we’ve definitely had that
00:01:29.840 conversation of how can you do one and
00:01:32.320 the other and not choose to do just
00:01:35.600 literally one or the other? Like how can
00:01:37.360 you do them both? Um and either call
00:01:40.079 yourself a Christian or a pastor. How
00:01:41.520 can you do them both and not feel like
00:01:43.200 why you have to let one go um and not
00:01:46.079 the other? And um I mean I could always
00:01:49.439 you know unpack that a little bit more
00:01:51.520 in regards to uh just that simple phrase
00:01:54.079 like we’re we’re called to go out,
00:01:55.280 right? And uh the Lord used music to
00:01:57.920 save me, right? The Lord used music
00:01:59.360 saved me. And so I feel that like if um
00:02:02.719 if that’s where he’s still calling me in
00:02:04.560 regards to not just entertaining because
00:02:06.960 I think you can entertain, right, and
00:02:08.399 still be a Christian and be in the
00:02:09.758 entertainment world. There’s nothing
00:02:10.720 wrong with that.
00:02:11.120 >> Well, see the problem is people call you
00:02:12.800 a lukewarm Christian. That’s what I’m
00:02:14.560 getting all the time because I post I I
00:02:17.440 >> said, you know, you can’t control
00:02:19.520 everything in the world and they’re
00:02:21.120 like, well, you’re a lukewarm Christian
00:02:22.720 if you’re okay with them doing that and
00:02:24.319 saying turn away. We shouldn’t have to
00:02:26.080 turn away.
00:02:26.879 >> And that’s a that’s a um I think a
00:02:28.959 phrase that a lot of people love to use
00:02:30.959 um when it doesn’t fit their I know this
00:02:33.280 is a probably a trigger word and their
00:02:34.720 narrative, right? their
00:02:37.200 >> their idea is that well you’re a
00:02:38.800 lukewarm Christian and it’s like well
00:02:41.519 >> um
00:02:42.640 >> if my actions prove that I’m not a
00:02:44.640 lukewarm Christian
00:02:46.560 >> then what does it matter you know what
00:02:48.400 I’m saying because if my actions still
00:02:49.920 show that I’m pouring and I’m loving the
00:02:52.400 Lord and I’m pouring into people it
00:02:54.400 doesn’t matter if I’m working or normal
00:02:57.120 job let’s just say in a law form law
00:02:59.599 firm right just you know legal cases
00:03:02.480 right I can honor the Lord in doing that
00:03:04.640 if the Lord gave me music to write and
00:03:06.800 that music is specifically written in a
00:03:08.879 way that
00:03:10.800 >> stirs a conversation of why did you
00:03:13.519 write something in this terminology or
00:03:15.680 what’s the meaning of this lyric here or
00:03:17.599 what’s the underlining because that’s
00:03:18.720 how I write my music even though it’s
00:03:20.239 all secular music um everything has a a
00:03:23.280 foundational piece of faith and that’s
00:03:26.560 because what the Lord has done in my
00:03:27.760 life right and so though the lyrics
00:03:29.599 might be based on someone’s story you
00:03:32.640 know like I have a song that’s about
00:03:35.360 uh a lady, she was 18 that committed
00:03:37.440 suicide because she was trapped in sex
00:03:39.760 slavery and she couldn’t get out of it,
00:03:41.440 >> right? And so after I heard her story,
00:03:44.159 um I wrote a song about it and um people
00:03:47.680 would hear that and they would just
00:03:48.560 hear, "Oh man, this is a story about
00:03:49.840 someone that got stuck in sex slavery
00:03:52.640 and that world sucks, right? And here’s
00:03:54.799 the sadness of you know what it means,
00:03:57.519 right? and the the the effects of it and
00:04:00.319 what people the let’s just say how far
00:04:02.480 they go to get out of it. Well, the Lord
00:04:05.680 put that on my heart to write. I never
00:04:07.439 met her, you know. I never knew her. I
00:04:09.840 never knew her family or no one.
00:04:11.599 >> You just knew the story.
00:04:12.560 >> But I just knew the story. And when I
00:04:14.239 actually got a chance to play it for her
00:04:16.000 mom at an event, um her words to me were
00:04:19.600 you you captured everything, her whole
00:04:22.079 life, the whole story. And that’s what
00:04:24.880 it is, right? Okay. And that’s what we
00:04:26.560 look at faith-wise. When the spirit
00:04:28.000 moves, right, it’s going to draw you to
00:04:30.639 everywhere.
00:04:32.160 The spirit drew Jesus into the
00:04:34.560 wilderness,
00:04:36.320 >> right? And so someone would look and be
00:04:38.560 like, well, that can’t be true because
00:04:41.120 he drew him into the wilderness to be
00:04:42.479 tempted.
00:04:42.960 >> Right. Right.
00:04:43.600 >> Right.
00:04:44.400 >> But it did. It’s all in scripture. But
00:04:47.680 it was to give a foundational truth for
00:04:50.160 us to see how you are able to withstand
00:04:53.280 what’s out in the world. It’s all
00:04:54.960 through the CR through the water.
00:04:56.080 >> And and this is an extreme, but is there
00:04:59.040 a place where maybe somebody is a
00:05:01.120 bouncer at a strip club, but they’re a
00:05:02.720 Christian? And I’m not saying they go
00:05:04.080 there. They’re already working there.
00:05:05.520 And I’m not saying um they accept that.
00:05:08.240 How do you separate that? Because Jack
00:05:10.080 was teaching me that Paul says, or I I
00:05:12.880 don’t know if I’m saying that if it was
00:05:14.720 really Paul. I’m Jack my our son
00:05:17.919 >> is going to school to be a you know, a
00:05:20.720 priest. But he says that you should be
00:05:23.520 judging other Christians and you should
00:05:25.840 remove them from your presence. I don’t
00:05:27.759 know what scripture that is. But also,
00:05:30.960 you know, here this man is, let’s say, a
00:05:33.840 bouncer at a strip club. How do they
00:05:36.639 ever hear the word if you’re always just
00:05:39.280 excluding all of those people? So the
00:05:41.120 second he becomes a Christian, you would
00:05:42.720 say, well, if you’re going to bear
00:05:43.919 fruit, you should leave that
00:05:44.960 environment. But how does that those
00:05:46.880 people ever get to hear that? That’s
00:05:48.320 that’s what I’d like you to touch on
00:05:49.600 today. Well, I would I I would think um
00:05:52.479 >> and that’s a I would say like a loaded I
00:05:54.639 wouldn’t say a loaded question, but I
00:05:55.919 would say it’s a tough one because I
00:05:57.680 really think it comes down to your walk
00:05:59.759 in the Lord, right? Um for instance,
00:06:01.840 like if someone is a struggling
00:06:03.919 alcoholic, but the Lord has, let’s just
00:06:06.800 say, saved them, right? And they’re
00:06:08.479 working through that,
00:06:09.840 >> but their faith isn’t strong enough for
00:06:11.759 them to go back into the bars and share
00:06:13.280 the gospel because they’ll fall back
00:06:14.960 into it, right? Right. So, um, but the
00:06:17.600 strip club aspect, that’s always going
00:06:19.039 to be a hard topic because you’re
00:06:20.800 talking about a lifestyle that is, I
00:06:23.759 would say, truly, you know, not honoring
00:06:25.680 the Lord. That’s right.
00:06:26.479 >> And so, whether if you’re at the door,
00:06:28.800 you know what I’m saying? You’re um, you
00:06:31.199 know, you’re in a sense still honoring
00:06:32.639 that, right? And so, the question is
00:06:34.319 like if you, so if you’re in a sense of
00:06:36.639 like, hey, I’m a bouncer and
00:06:41.039 somehow I became a Christian and I come
00:06:43.759 to know the Lord. Well, now it goes back
00:06:46.240 to okay the relationships, right? So, if
00:06:48.560 you built relationships with people that
00:06:50.080 are still in that industry, now you’re
00:06:53.120 pouring into those people not in that
00:06:55.440 environment, but you’re pouring you can
00:06:57.280 pour into those people in different way.
00:06:59.199 >> Well, I guess I’m thinking kind of like
00:07:00.800 all of these priests and people that
00:07:02.319 stand in front of abortion clinics,
00:07:03.759 right? It’s like, do they have people
00:07:05.759 that stand in front of these clinics
00:07:08.960 and, you know, kind of uh preach the
00:07:13.039 word and stuff like that? I mean, I
00:07:14.800 think you do, but I I I think um I would
00:07:18.720 say more than anything, I I it’s it’s
00:07:21.759 always going to be the the strong for
00:07:25.120 and the strong against, right? So, let’s
00:07:26.880 just say if you have someone standing
00:07:28.319 out, you know, an abortion clinic or um
00:07:31.599 anywhere bar, whatever that they feel
00:07:33.759 like it’s, you know, it’s not of God,
00:07:37.199 right? And they’re out there with their
00:07:38.240 picket signs. You’re never gonna, no
00:07:40.560 one’s going to look at that and be like,
00:07:42.000 you know, maybe I should be a believer
00:07:43.759 because there’s no relationship.
00:07:45.120 >> No,
00:07:45.520 >> there’s no relationship. And so, um, the
00:07:49.120 street preachers, I think, at times when
00:07:51.199 they’re in areas, and we see it all
00:07:52.639 through scripture, right? It works. It
00:07:54.639 works in certain pieces, right? But what
00:07:57.280 we see in today’s day and age is we see
00:07:59.199 people that are very strong in what they
00:08:02.960 believe and what they have. And what
00:08:04.720 they do is they’re out judging people
00:08:06.160 who are non-Christians
00:08:07.759 >> saying you should believe what I
00:08:09.120 believe. Well, that person
00:08:12.160 like I have free will back up, right?
00:08:13.840 They have their truth, right?
00:08:15.759 >> And so what it does is it always is
00:08:18.160 going to fall back to the relationship,
00:08:20.879 >> you know? Um, and that’s why, you know,
00:08:23.199 Jesus said for us to go out into the
00:08:25.199 world and then go back and build
00:08:26.560 relationships and that builds, you know,
00:08:28.000 Yeah. but there’s still that level of
00:08:30.240 discernment, right? The discernment is
00:08:31.919 is okay, is God calling me to go into
00:08:34.159 the strip club
00:08:35.679 >> and start sharing the gospel with all
00:08:37.760 the strippers all over the place. Well,
00:08:40.080 you’re opening up your mind and your
00:08:41.519 eyes to things that are ungodly, right?
00:08:43.839 And so now the question is is like all
00:08:45.279 right if there’s let’s just say you come
00:08:47.440 wind of well you know I know that after
00:08:50.160 hours they all go to the Waffle House
00:08:53.360 for breakfast right
00:08:54.160 >> is this something you know person I’m
00:08:55.279 just kidding.
00:08:55.680 >> No well after shows after shows we have
00:08:58.560 you know we have friends no well you
00:09:01.200 know we have after
00:09:02.240 >> we see some strippers there sometimes. I
00:09:04.000 mean, you see wild stuff at the, you
00:09:05.200 know, Waffle House, but, you know, you
00:09:06.399 go there, you know, after, you know, we
00:09:08.080 would play a show and it’d be a late
00:09:09.360 night and we have friends that, you
00:09:10.800 know, want to grab food to eat. So,
00:09:12.240 we’ll always go and anywhere to get
00:09:14.160 food, stuff like that.
00:09:15.360 >> And, I mean, you just know as you look
00:09:17.440 online, you just the Waffle House is
00:09:19.200 like you’re going to see fights. You’re
00:09:20.880 going to see I mean, that’s
00:09:21.600 >> Well, any place that’s open 247, it can
00:09:24.480 get crazy.
00:09:24.959 >> Okay, so Ken, ask your question again
00:09:26.800 and let’s have him answer that.
00:09:28.000 >> So, let let’s let’s go for it then.
00:09:29.920 Jesus goes to the Super Bowl. What’s he
00:09:31.760 do at halftime? What do you think?
00:09:33.839 >> Um, I mean, I think if if he’s already
00:09:36.000 there, he’s there.
00:09:37.200 >> He stays. And
00:09:38.160 >> I think he stays. And I think he looks
00:09:39.920 at the brokenness of the world. And then
00:09:42.320 I think he also looks at how are my
00:09:44.080 people going to impact the world. Um, is
00:09:46.800 he entertained by it? No, I don’t think
00:09:48.959 he’s entertained by it. Um, is he
00:09:51.519 specifically drawing trying to
00:09:54.640 understand it? I think he already knows,
00:09:56.640 right? But I think he sees the
00:09:58.560 brokenness of the world. Um, and he’s
00:10:01.360 looking at, okay, how can I
00:10:04.320 basically,
00:10:07.120 what’s the word? How can I not be of
00:10:10.080 influence? But I think he really sits
00:10:12.399 back and just looks at it all and just
00:10:13.680 says, "Okay, what am I, what are my
00:10:15.200 children doing?"
00:10:16.240 >> Yeah. Because if you think about it, we
00:10:18.079 as Christians, we know that there’s sin
00:10:19.920 in the world, right? We know that this
00:10:21.519 is a fallen world. And the question
00:10:23.600 really, the core question is, what do we
00:10:26.240 do about it? What do we do about it? And
00:10:28.160 I think I I think your your comment and
00:10:30.560 your your uh focus on relationships
00:10:33.920 really boils it down because when you
00:10:35.680 talk about, you know, the people
00:10:37.120 picketing outside of abortion clinics or
00:10:40.079 just standing on the street corner and
00:10:42.560 >> that can have the opposite effect,
00:10:45.600 >> right?
00:10:46.079 >> It can reach people. I’m not saying it
00:10:47.839 can’t and it never has, but it can have
00:10:49.760 the absolute opposite effect and push
00:10:52.240 people away.
00:10:53.120 >> Yeah. For sure. And that’s and that’s
00:10:54.959 and that’s what we see, right? Um
00:10:56.959 because you got to think about like
00:10:58.079 Jesus,
00:10:59.680 you know, he’s he’s set with the tax
00:11:01.040 colle
00:11:03.200 tax collectors. Man, maybe I’m going
00:11:04.959 through that premier.
00:11:06.000 >> You are very good. Good lord. You know,
00:11:09.680 it’s going around, man.
00:11:11.040 >> Sorry. They should have sat you over
00:11:12.959 there.
00:11:13.760 >> Um but you know, you know, he he he went
00:11:17.120 into those places not to be entertained,
00:11:20.320 but to bring them the hope that they
00:11:22.480 needed. That was the whole point, right?
00:11:24.000 And so it wasn’t just to let me just
00:11:26.399 mingle and hang out with them. It was
00:11:27.920 to, as he said, I didn’t come for the
00:11:31.040 healthy. I came for the sick. And so you
00:11:33.440 have to in a sense pick up on those
00:11:35.279 areas. Well, where are the sick people
00:11:36.640 at? But you yourself have to be at a
00:11:39.519 place where you’re like, "Okay, if God
00:11:40.800 has given me a gift to bring healing to
00:11:44.079 people who are broken, I can’t bring um
00:11:48.399 my brokenness to those broken people or
00:11:50.800 what I consider as healing or the
00:11:52.959 medicine that is outside of God, right?"
00:11:56.000 And so um you know, I think you mean the
00:11:58.880 Super Bowl, I guess you can leave it at
00:12:00.880 the idea too where Jesus said, you know,
00:12:02.720 I mean it’s a different context, right?
00:12:04.480 But says, "Give the Caesar what is
00:12:05.519 Caesars. give the god what is god’s
00:12:06.959 right um I don’t think there’s reasons
00:12:09.519 why we look in scripture I don’t think
00:12:11.040 we see I mean you got to understand that
00:12:13.120 >> they probably had a lot of the you know
00:12:16.160 different games going on with the Roman
00:12:18.399 empires and you know we don’t see
00:12:20.000 anything in scripture where Jesus was
00:12:22.000 where they acknowledged those things
00:12:23.360 happening where he was there
00:12:25.440 >> yeah well and yeah you think about the
00:12:26.720 movie Gladiator they didn’t just have
00:12:28.399 the coliseum with the gladiators they
00:12:30.720 had those sports all throughout their
00:12:33.200 empire
00:12:34.000 >> right and so Um, and you see that too
00:12:36.560 with um, I think a lot of things that
00:12:38.639 even Paul addresses through, you know, 1
00:12:40.880 and 2 Corinthians because a lot of those
00:12:42.480 things happened in in Corinth, right?
00:12:45.040 And so, and he addresses those things in
00:12:47.120 a sense of, hey, you’re acknowledging,
00:12:49.519 yes, some things are worldly that you
00:12:52.880 shouldn’t be a part of that we’re not
00:12:54.560 called to be a part of that. Matter of
00:12:56.079 fact, some of you used to be, right? He
00:12:58.000 talks about you used to be certain
00:12:59.600 things or living certain lifestyles, but
00:13:01.920 you’re no longer that, right? And so I
00:13:04.480 think there’s there’s areas where you
00:13:06.320 you refrain from participating in. But
00:13:08.800 that’s the whole element of discernment,
00:13:10.720 right? That is what the spirit
00:13:14.240 gives us, you know, the the the great
00:13:16.959 counselor, right? That’s what scripture
00:13:18.240 calls the Holy Spirit the counselor.
00:13:19.600 That’s what Jesus calls him like. Um and
00:13:22.240 it’s to remind us of the things that
00:13:23.680 he’s teaching and he’s showing us,
00:13:25.040 right? And so, but um I think it all
00:13:27.440 does really come down to discernment and
00:13:30.240 you know, how you raise your family. And
00:13:32.000 my kids, they look at that stuff and
00:13:33.680 they’re like, it it doesn’t phase them
00:13:35.440 because not in the fact of that it
00:13:37.360 doesn’t bother them. They they go,
00:13:39.360 "Yeah, we already know that. That’s
00:13:40.880 gross." Like they’re not they’re not
00:13:43.120 they’re they you know,
00:13:44.399 >> so many times we go into stores, the
00:13:46.399 Gar, you know, there’s a store called
00:13:47.680 Garage and Victoria’s Secret. It’s
00:13:49.440 everywhere you go, Jack’s looking at his
00:13:51.120 Bible or Jack’s looking down at
00:13:52.399 something and Skyla’s like, "Well,
00:13:53.440 they’re just girls. I’m not looking at
00:13:54.639 the girls. Whatever. I’ve seen my
00:13:56.000 friends in underwear." But it’s it’s I
00:13:59.040 teach every day. I teach discernment in
00:14:01.680 my home. So if my kids were at a
00:14:04.240 friend’s house and they were playing the
00:14:05.760 Super Bowl, it’s not like, "Oh my
00:14:08.240 goodness, this is amazing. I I should I
00:14:11.279 should be like that." It’s almost like
00:14:12.800 that that thing where they I’m not
00:14:15.519 agreeing to giving children alcohol, but
00:14:17.680 they start drinking wine in other
00:14:19.040 countries. And so by the time they’re
00:14:21.120 >> 21, it’s not like a drunk fest because
00:14:23.839 they’ve been around, right?
00:14:25.279 >> Yeah. They’ve been around it their
00:14:26.880 entire life. And when you don’t make
00:14:30.320 things, it’s not that you’re not making
00:14:32.000 it a big deal.
00:14:33.279 >> Yeah.
00:14:33.760 >> You’re teaching them discernment at a
00:14:35.519 deep level versus reactionary.
00:14:37.600 >> For sure. Yeah. And that’s and that’s
00:14:39.440 you hit it right. Like it’s it all
00:14:40.959 starts in the home. Like we do that with
00:14:42.480 our girls. We teach them um you know,
00:14:45.040 obviously they go to a a prep school, I
00:14:48.240 guess. Uh yeah, prep school. And so it’s
00:14:50.240 a it’s a non-Christian school. Um
00:14:52.560 obviously there’s teachers there that
00:14:53.760 some of them are the faith and stuff
00:14:55.120 like that but you know you got to be a
00:14:56.880 little more um you got to be careful
00:15:00.000 right in the public setting in regards
00:15:01.519 to schools if your faith or different
00:15:03.600 things right
00:15:04.639 >> um but we teach our girls every day like
00:15:06.880 not everybody believes
00:15:08.880 >> as we believe not everybody believes in
00:15:10.959 God not everybody understands that or
00:15:13.680 desires to understand that and um and
00:15:16.399 that’s okay
00:15:17.360 >> you know
00:15:17.839 >> we have free will
00:15:18.560 >> we have free will and I always we always
00:15:20.320 tell them but God has still called us to
00:15:22.320 love them cuz they’re still his
00:15:24.000 creation, too. And so, um,
00:15:27.199 >> and even neighbor kids, we got a lot of
00:15:29.040 kids on our street and there are a lot
00:15:30.160 of them around the same age and, um,
00:15:32.639 definitely some are raised differently
00:15:34.320 than our girls, you know, and you know,
00:15:36.480 we explain that to them like
00:15:37.680 >> it’s out there. You can’t avoid it.
00:15:38.880 >> You can’t avoid it, right? And that’s I
00:15:40.480 think that’s where a lot of Christians
00:15:41.839 go wrong is that um
00:15:44.639 >> and and I’ve we’ve my wife and I have
00:15:46.720 fallen into this occasions where we try
00:15:48.560 to
00:15:50.240 you know protect them so much that we
00:15:52.240 keep them from learning things but
00:15:55.440 >> if you watch the trend it’s usually
00:15:57.040 those are the kids that usually as once
00:15:58.560 they get out of the home are the ones
00:15:59.920 that
00:16:00.639 >> usually go crazy.
00:16:01.519 >> Well see Megan Megan says that all the
00:16:03.600 time and I think she she hit the nail on
00:16:05.360 the head. It’s like who do you want
00:16:07.440 teaching your kids? Do you want do you
00:16:09.040 want your values teaching your kids or
00:16:11.360 do you want to shield them so much that
00:16:12.800 they go out there and they’re hit with
00:16:14.480 things that they’ve never seen, never
00:16:16.000 heard and let them teach your kids.
00:16:18.079 >> And it’s exciting. It’s a dopamine rush.
00:16:19.920 Like they’re seeing these things and
00:16:21.600 they’re like, "What is this?" And I, you
00:16:23.600 know, we play Vid Angel in our home, so
00:16:25.440 we stream things like we don’t look at
00:16:27.199 these things and they know that. But I
00:16:29.440 also know Skyla watches movies in her
00:16:31.199 room with her friends and I’m sure
00:16:32.639 there’s stuff in there. But I’m always
00:16:34.800 teaching discernment. I’m always
00:16:36.720 teaching them because they’re going to
00:16:38.160 leave my home and they get to pick what
00:16:40.240 they want to do
00:16:40.880 >> for sure.
00:16:41.519 >> And I think when you smother your kids
00:16:45.199 without teaching them,
00:16:47.040 >> you know, Skyla is like, "What what’s
00:16:48.800 the big deal about the Super Bowl?"
00:16:50.079 Yeah, I see that all the time. I mean,
00:16:51.600 like there’s videos constantly. I mean,
00:16:53.600 it’s it’s everywhere.
00:16:55.040 >> TV commercials,
00:16:57.279 you know,
00:16:57.680 >> and and she and she understands where
00:17:00.000 I’m at with that, you know, where with,
00:17:02.320 you know, that gets you in tr one thing
00:17:03.839 leads to a next.
00:17:06.000 Well, going out there with a half top is
00:17:07.599 bad. Well, why? You know, I’m all about
00:17:10.400 the
00:17:12.720 But they don’t want to have to do that.
00:17:14.880 I don’t think that they’re lazy, but
00:17:16.640 they just have too much on their plate
00:17:18.240 and they’re like, I’d rather have the
00:17:20.079 world
00:17:20.959 >> be shielded so I don’t have to do that.
00:17:22.799 And and I get it. Like, I can’t wait to
00:17:24.799 be in heaven.
00:17:25.760 >> They not can’t. I love living, but like
00:17:27.679 could it be heaven on earth? Sure. But
00:17:29.120 that’s not the reality.
00:17:30.559 >> Yeah. And that’s the um and that’s just
00:17:32.400 it. Like as parents sometimes we it’s
00:17:34.240 easier just to say when the kids ask why
00:17:36.400 it’s easy just to say well because right
00:17:39.200 >> you know and I’ve fallen victim to that
00:17:41.280 cuz sometimes that’s just the easier
00:17:42.640 route. You just don’t want
00:17:43.520 >> sometimes you you don’t have the time
00:17:45.760 energy.
00:17:46.640 >> Excuse me. Not me. I miss like explain
00:17:49.280 it all.
00:17:49.919 >> Yeah. But that’s because
00:17:50.799 >> I don’t want to miss an opportunity.
00:17:52.240 >> And that’s and that’s where I’ve learned
00:17:54.240 um I wouldn’t say have learned. I’m
00:17:55.679 still learning. My wife and I are still
00:17:56.880 learning. It’s just that okay when you
00:17:59.120 slow down in life and take the time for
00:18:02.400 the answer right u and that’s something
00:18:04.480 that co kind of I would say we use co to
00:18:07.360 teach us right was um once you know once
00:18:10.799 co hit and everything shut down
00:18:12.640 everybody was at home life really
00:18:15.440 >> um basically slowed down like right I
00:18:20.000 was telling like my wife and I obviously
00:18:21.600 since we were kids been together and I
00:18:24.000 met her in the small town that she grew
00:18:25.600 up in it was 10,000 people, you know,
00:18:27.760 now there’s only eight.
00:18:28.960 >> Wow.
00:18:29.360 >> Right. And so, you know, you always look
00:18:31.280 back on those days of just slow living.
00:18:33.600 You know, every time we go back and
00:18:34.720 visit the in-laws like,
00:18:36.480 >> you know, it’s just slow, like, and it’s
00:18:39.280 a healthy slow, right? Everyone’s great,
00:18:41.440 they’re smart, they’re intelligent, but
00:18:43.600 life is just slow and they enjoy their
00:18:45.520 time, right? And so, CO did that with
00:18:47.120 us. So, where where we were, everybody
00:18:49.600 was in the house, you know, everything
00:18:51.360 slowed down. We began to sit at the
00:18:52.880 dinner table together more, right? have
00:18:54.720 those healthy conversations and just
00:18:56.240 talk and have game night and just a lot
00:18:58.240 of fun, right? M
00:18:59.360 >> and that’s what we look at in regards to
00:19:01.440 when the answers come with our girls is
00:19:03.280 like yes it still is easy just to say
00:19:05.919 well because because
00:19:08.080 >> what we’ve learned is if you take the
00:19:09.840 time and you answer the why then it
00:19:12.080 starts to dawn and click in their mind
00:19:14.160 and they get it to where like I’m
00:19:16.240 watching my you know my eight-year-old
00:19:18.960 that’s my youngest my youngest uh
00:19:20.400 Kennedy and you know she’s talking with
00:19:22.640 her friends at school and she’s got you
00:19:24.160 know friends that obviously are
00:19:25.360 non-believers one that’s probably I
00:19:26.799 think a Jehovah witness that doesn’t
00:19:28.960 celebrate nothing doesn’t you know and
00:19:30.400 so and she’s cautious of that like and
00:19:32.640 she’ll acknowledge like well I gotta you
00:19:35.120 know I know I can’t remember the kid’s
00:19:36.960 name but like he doesn’t celebrate this
00:19:38.559 and this and that. So she’s mindful of
00:19:39.919 that but her heart is still for them to
00:19:42.080 know who the Lord is.
00:19:43.200 >> And so you know they’ll be in conflict
00:19:45.679 and she’ll always say well that’s not
00:19:47.360 what God calls us to do. And I mean
00:19:48.880 she’s talking to non-believers kids but
00:19:50.880 her heart is
00:19:52.240 >> well that’s not and but it’s the why.
00:19:54.240 Well because God didn’t create us that
00:19:55.679 way. So for us to take the time and
00:19:58.240 answer the why for our kids is allowing
00:20:01.440 them to now answer the why within their
00:20:03.840 friends.
00:20:04.480 >> Mhm.
00:20:04.960 >> And so
00:20:05.840 >> so take us from that to the setting of
00:20:08.880 of you with your band playing in a bar
00:20:11.200 and playing secular music and and
00:20:14.080 >> have there been opportunities where
00:20:16.480 you’ve actually been able to minister to
00:20:19.760 somebody
00:20:20.320 >> whether from like my end or a lot of
00:20:22.960 times it’s been some of our even our
00:20:24.160 bandmates. Um, and so I I I’ll go back
00:20:27.840 to I’ve I’ve been a part of music since
00:20:29.520 I was in middle school. I think I wrote
00:20:31.120 my first song when I was like in eighth
00:20:32.480 grade or something like that. I can’t
00:20:33.440 remember. I can’t even remember the
00:20:34.480 song, but um but it’s always been a part
00:20:36.640 of my life. My mom was a gospel singer
00:20:38.240 growing up, so we were always um around
00:20:40.480 music. Um my you know, my dad too, he
00:20:43.440 doesn’t he didn’t really I guess he was
00:20:45.120 singer in high school that I learned
00:20:46.480 now, but it’s just been a part of our
00:20:47.840 life, right? So um so for all all the
00:20:50.240 years, like I’ve always done music in
00:20:52.240 the bar settings. um in the church. Um
00:20:56.480 we went through a phase where so many
00:20:58.000 people were like, "Well, you guys are
00:20:59.200 Christians. You should just be a
00:21:00.240 Christian band and just play churches
00:21:01.679 because you have a guaranteed fan base."
00:21:03.679 And that’s always struck a weird chord
00:21:05.520 for me. Like I’ve always hated that.
00:21:07.760 >> Yeah. Cuz why are you preaching to the
00:21:09.520 the well people that they claim to be
00:21:11.679 well
00:21:11.919 >> and I think there’s some some people are
00:21:13.120 gifted in that area where I mean that’s
00:21:14.720 where we get our worship music from,
00:21:16.000 right? So when I look at like, okay,
00:21:18.640 yes, I can just stay in my bubble of
00:21:22.240 Christianity and church and just play
00:21:24.000 music for churchy people, but every time
00:21:26.240 we did that, like we would play
00:21:27.919 Christian shows and like our music never
00:21:30.720 worked.
00:21:31.679 >> Like people were always just they always
00:21:34.000 looked at us weird. Like literally like
00:21:36.480 they were just they couldn’t understand
00:21:38.240 it in a sense of well why would he be
00:21:40.559 singing about this or why would he be
00:21:43.120 singing about this drug struggle or this
00:21:46.320 dark place
00:21:47.120 >> because they just want to be up this la
00:21:50.320 Jesus is great he holds our heart and
00:21:52.799 blah blah
00:21:53.600 >> but if you but if he said pick up your
00:21:55.200 cross and follow me he’s saying come die
00:21:57.120 with me right like this is death right
00:21:59.679 so that’s good and so when we so when I
00:22:02.159 look at the aspect of music Um,
00:22:05.200 everything that the Lord has given me to
00:22:06.720 write has been music that’s for the
00:22:09.039 purpose of outside the church. And I
00:22:12.960 tell people that because when you listen
00:22:14.720 to our music, there’s not our music’s
00:22:16.159 clean. It’s not dirty. Yeah.
00:22:17.520 >> U, most people say, "Well, you could it
00:22:19.039 could be considered crossover because
00:22:20.480 you can if if you’re a believer, you you
00:22:22.960 hear that you hear the the the
00:22:25.679 foundational piece to it, which I all
00:22:28.240 the stuff I write, you know, I try to
00:22:30.720 build it on the Lord, right? And so as a
00:22:32.880 believer, if you’re if you pick up on
00:22:35.039 that, you can sense it, you can see it,
00:22:36.480 right? Um, but it leaves room for a
00:22:39.840 non-believer just to hear a great song.
00:22:42.480 But what I found is a lot of people when
00:22:44.559 we get done with a show and we begin to
00:22:46.400 just have conversations. Um, um, some
00:22:49.360 have steered that way and some have just
00:22:50.720 stayed just normal conversations of,
00:22:52.000 man, that was great music, a great song,
00:22:53.440 whatever, whatnot. But as we’ve sat with
00:22:55.679 people, really, it’s been more of really
00:22:58.320 hearing where people are in life. And
00:23:00.720 it’s more than anything lately, it’s
00:23:02.400 just given us a pulse of why the Lord is
00:23:04.400 calling us to go out and into the world.
00:23:06.480 Um my guitar players have had, you know,
00:23:09.200 um great conversations with people about
00:23:11.679 the faith. Um you know, I’ve had some
00:23:14.480 throughout the years. Um not like a huge
00:23:16.799 amount to where it’s like cuz I don’t I
00:23:18.640 mean I don’t stand on the the stage and
00:23:20.320 preach, you know, preach preach preach.
00:23:21.760 And some people will hate me for that.
00:23:23.679 They you know, they say I should, right?
00:23:25.360 You know, and that’s another one of
00:23:26.400 those boxes. But
00:23:27.120 >> well, then they should. Everybody knows
00:23:28.559 the right way of doing it, right? then
00:23:30.000 you go do it,
00:23:30.799 >> right? And so, but for me, it’s that um
00:23:33.520 I I feel like the Lord has always given
00:23:36.000 me an opportunity to um be an
00:23:39.760 entertainer, which I’ve been blessed to,
00:23:42.240 you know, he’s given me the ability to
00:23:43.760 play, write, sing, all those things. Um,
00:23:46.559 >> and you guys are great. I’ve heard you
00:23:47.840 guys play. Oh, I love it. I love it.
00:23:49.919 >> We’re fine. We try.
00:23:51.280 >> It’s great. You guys should check him
00:23:53.200 out. But uh but definitely but like what
00:23:55.840 I’ve learned throughout the years is
00:23:56.960 that what I get a chance to do in a
00:23:59.039 church is my thanksgiving to the Lord.
00:24:00.640 Lord, thank you for blessing me with an
00:24:02.400 opportunity to play music wherever I go.
00:24:05.440 Um but I’m also one of those that that
00:24:07.440 believes that you can glorify the Lord
00:24:09.280 in any line of work that you do that can
00:24:11.840 glorify the Lord. Now obviously there’s
00:24:13.600 some that you can’t, right? As we know,
00:24:16.320 um but if the Lord called me to be in
00:24:18.080 the music business or the music
00:24:19.760 industry, why can’t I glorify him with
00:24:22.240 the music that he’s given me? Right.
00:24:23.600 Yeah, you can. And so I do, you know,
00:24:26.080 and but we’ve, you know, honestly the
00:24:27.679 sad truth is we’ve had, you know, people
00:24:29.039 leave our church because I have a band
00:24:31.520 >> that plays music, you know, not just in
00:24:34.080 bars, but just music venues, wherever,
00:24:36.320 you know, wherever you can play.
00:24:37.279 >> You played at Tones and Bones.
00:24:38.240 >> Yeah. I played at Tones and Bones, you
00:24:39.440 know, fantastic spot, you know. So, um,
00:24:42.880 but that’s just it. But it’s like, well,
00:24:44.960 but this is what the Lord put on my
00:24:46.320 heart to do. I feel like if you’re
00:24:48.480 secure with your faith, I don’t feel
00:24:51.440 like, and you know, I could be wrong
00:24:53.360 about what the Bible says, but I don’t
00:24:54.880 feel like if I were to walk, if I were
00:24:56.400 to walk past alcohol, I’m not an
00:24:58.400 alcoholic. I don’t feel the need I have
00:25:00.720 to drink, and I’m not scared of the
00:25:02.400 alcohol being there for sure.
00:25:04.240 >> And so other people where they’re like,
00:25:05.679 well, you’re tempting people. I I I just
00:25:08.240 feel like it’s a confidence within the
00:25:09.760 Lord and the Holy Spirit that I’m
00:25:12.240 teaching my kids, you’re teaching your
00:25:14.400 family, you feel confident in your faith
00:25:16.720 that you’re going in there and it’s not
00:25:20.000 going to sway who you are. And I think a
00:25:21.919 lot of people get scared of that.
00:25:23.120 >> For sure. And I think what most people
00:25:24.640 assume too is that well, if you’re
00:25:25.840 playing music in the bar, then you’re
00:25:27.039 getting sloshed and you’re getting torn
00:25:28.400 up and you’re, you know, you’re, you
00:25:30.080 know, you’re entertaining the people
00:25:31.360 dancing in front of you and you’re just,
00:25:32.640 you’re living that rockstar lifestyle.
00:25:35.200 They say that you’re feeding into their
00:25:36.960 sin, right, into their sin. And so, um,
00:25:40.320 and that’s always I think that’s a heavy
00:25:42.080 like a heavy debatable question with an
00:25:45.279 answer that, you know, could be simple.
00:25:46.880 But it’s like, well, if I’m feeding into
00:25:49.840 their sin in regards to playing music,
00:25:52.559 then I could be feeding into their sin
00:25:54.080 whatever I do, right?
00:25:55.919 >> Um,
00:25:56.799 >> everyone has their own walk of life.
00:25:58.480 Everyone has their sin, right? So then
00:26:00.240 you now you have to say okay well then
00:26:02.320 if I re completely remove myself and if
00:26:06.720 I you know in a sense of where okay well
00:26:08.799 then I will no longer go and then I will
00:26:12.000 just sit in my chair at church waiting
00:26:15.200 for people to come in to be saved then
00:26:17.840 I’ve missed the whole point of what God
00:26:19.200 called us to do.
00:26:19.919 >> Yeah. You’ll be waiting an awfully long
00:26:21.679 time.
00:26:22.000 >> Awful long time. Right. And so now on
00:26:24.480 the the flip side will argue well can’t
00:26:26.640 you just go and just share the gospel?
00:26:28.720 Well, if I just go and sit at the bar,
00:26:31.520 I’m still feeding into their sin by
00:26:34.080 sitting at the bar with them, even if
00:26:35.600 I’m having a conversation, right?
00:26:37.600 >> Yeah.
00:26:38.080 >> But it’s also, well, how do you get to
00:26:40.159 the relationship aspect? How do you
00:26:42.080 build that relationship?
00:26:42.880 >> Well, this is the part where we were
00:26:44.000 talking about when we first sat down.
00:26:45.679 Everybody need needs in their mind nice
00:26:48.400 little boxes.
00:26:49.279 >> For sure.
00:26:49.679 >> They want to put you in a box. They want
00:26:51.039 to put me in a box because that’s
00:26:52.960 comfortable for them. Because a lot of
00:26:55.279 people aren’t deep thinkers. They can’t
00:26:57.600 think past I need my nice little box so
00:27:00.640 that I’m safe. Oh, you don’t do this is
00:27:03.039 what it looks like because you’re a deep
00:27:05.919 thinker. I’m a deep thinker. Ken’s a
00:27:08.080 deep thinker. We’re deep thinkers where
00:27:09.840 we can get
00:27:10.400 >> glad she added me in. I was I was
00:27:12.320 sitting on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t
00:27:13.679 sure that was coming.
00:27:15.440 >> You’re not you’re not you’re not
00:27:17.120 intuitive.
00:27:18.799 >> You’re you don’t intuitively go to the
00:27:20.880 deep thinking. I drag you along.
00:27:24.480 Oh,
00:27:25.279 >> and so I drag you into the depths of
00:27:28.400 Megan’s brain and I appreciate that you
00:27:31.039 listen to me and you go there. You are
00:27:33.360 you are teachable.
00:27:34.799 >> Let’s just say that.
00:27:36.640 >> Yeah,
00:27:37.120 >> I’ll take it. I’ll take it.
00:27:38.640 >> But yeah, that’s um and and I guess the
00:27:40.799 sad truth is like you’re always going to
00:27:42.159 have everyone everyone’s going to be at
00:27:43.919 a different walk in their faith. Sure.
00:27:46.000 Right. You’re always going to have I
00:27:47.279 mean that’s why we have baby Christians.
00:27:48.880 You have right in the middle and you
00:27:50.240 have really strong, you know, solid
00:27:52.320 Christians.
00:27:53.279 >> Um
00:27:54.399 But also comes down to discernment,
00:27:56.159 right? Like if the Lord didn’t put on
00:27:58.640 your heart to go into a bar and
00:28:00.000 minister, then don’t go into a bar and
00:28:01.360 minister, right? It’s okay. But if you
00:28:03.039 go to a restaurant that sells alcohol,
00:28:05.279 it’s still a bar.
00:28:06.640 >> You know what I’m saying? So wherever
00:28:07.679 you go, it’s going to be there. And
00:28:09.200 that’s the whole point is that why when
00:28:11.200 we feel like the when God says like, I’m
00:28:13.600 giving you the Holy Spirit and I’m in
00:28:16.320 you. I’m with you. Wherever you go, I
00:28:18.240 go. Right? If you’re a strong believer
00:28:19.919 and you trust and believe in that. So
00:28:21.200 the whole point is that if we’re called
00:28:23.120 to be the light of the world and we’re
00:28:24.640 called to be the salt, you have to go
00:28:26.720 where the salt is needed. You have to go
00:28:28.399 where the light is needed. If you just
00:28:30.000 stay within your circle of light,
00:28:32.240 >> then what are you doing?
00:28:33.840 >> You’re not doing anything.
00:28:34.640 >> You’re not doing anything. Right? And
00:28:36.480 that’s where the church really has
00:28:38.480 failed in so many ways is that we
00:28:40.320 stopped going and said, "Well, just come
00:28:42.799 to us and because we’re safe in our
00:28:45.600 little four walls, we’re safe." And so,
00:28:48.480 um, why don’t you, the the stripper or
00:28:51.520 the drug addict or the alcoholic or the
00:28:54.880 adulterous person or you you you know,
00:28:56.799 you start going down the list of sin,
00:28:58.159 right? Um, why don’t you just come
00:28:59.840 inside here
00:29:01.840 >> and then we’ll share you the gospel,
00:29:03.440 >> right?
00:29:03.760 >> Or my pastor will share the gospel with
00:29:05.840 you, right?
00:29:06.320 >> Because we have a great pastor and we
00:29:07.760 have amazing worship and so you’ll come
00:29:09.760 fill the Holy Spirit. Well, if you read
00:29:11.520 scripture, each and every person that
00:29:14.080 gives their faith to the Lord
00:29:16.720 is supposed to go out and share the
00:29:18.480 gospel. And not just share it, you live
00:29:20.159 it out because you’re building
00:29:21.520 disciples, right? And then once you once
00:29:23.760 that person is saved, then they should
00:29:25.520 step into this church to be able to grow
00:29:27.919 their faith and be surrounded by other
00:29:30.000 believers. But the church, and I think
00:29:32.320 this is why this this topic is such so
00:29:35.039 debatable, is because the church has
00:29:37.200 allowed itself to be everything else but
00:29:39.840 Christlike.
00:29:41.120 >> In the sense of so much
00:29:42.720 >> when you look at the church, you see you
00:29:45.120 see Republican, you see Democrat, you
00:29:48.159 see liberal, you see conservative, you
00:29:50.720 see um
00:29:52.480 >> every topic you can think about. That’s
00:29:54.640 what the church has now starting to look
00:29:56.399 like and what God is like, I need to see
00:29:59.039 the bride of Christ. Where’s my bride
00:30:00.799 at?
00:30:01.279 >> Right?
00:30:01.760 >> You know,
00:30:02.240 >> well, and I guess on the one hand,
00:30:04.960 they’re trying to cast a wide enough net
00:30:07.039 to even just scratch the surface with
00:30:09.440 people, maybe peak their curiosity
00:30:11.679 enough to where they go deeper. At least
00:30:13.760 that’s what I hope they’re doing.
00:30:15.200 >> Well, and that’s that is the hope. And
00:30:16.960 but as we’ve been, you know, kind of
00:30:18.799 talking like as we say with our kids,
00:30:20.399 right? You know, the way our kids are is
00:30:22.640 how we pour into them in the home,
00:30:24.399 right? So now it goes back to okay, so
00:30:27.360 what do my neighbors look like? All
00:30:29.440 right. Do I just sit in my home and not
00:30:32.720 pour into my neighbors?
00:30:34.240 >> Well, no. God has called me to pour into
00:30:36.080 my neighbors. So, that means that I got
00:30:37.520 to get outside the four walls of my
00:30:39.039 house and get to know my neighbors.
00:30:41.039 >> Oh, wait. You know one of our Wait, we
00:30:42.559 know.
00:30:42.960 >> You guys pour barbecue into each other.
00:30:44.559 >> We do. Paul Peterson. Yeah.
00:30:46.559 >> Yes. I just remember.
00:30:47.520 >> Oh, yeah. Paul Peterson. Yeah. Right
00:30:49.039 across the street. He’s my insurance
00:30:50.159 agent, too.
00:30:51.840 >> Good friend. Yeah. Good shout out. You
00:30:53.279 know, I’ll look for the little uh fees.
00:30:56.080 Yeah. Pay my little Yeah. No. Yeah. Free
00:30:59.919 advertisement. No. But yeah, but that
00:31:01.760 it’s just that, right? Cuz that’s the
00:31:03.120 whole mindset is that well,
00:31:05.120 >> if if I pour into my kids, then my kids
00:31:07.600 will pour into their friends and so on
00:31:09.520 and so on. And then then you begin to
00:31:11.360 see the church really because that’s the
00:31:12.880 revival aspect, right? We we we were
00:31:14.880 always built on well the revival is you
00:31:17.600 build this tent ministry and you go into
00:31:19.360 a community and you share the gospel and
00:31:20.880 there this big revival. But really where
00:31:22.799 it starts, it starts within your own
00:31:24.799 personal four walls. starts with your
00:31:26.960 kids and then your kids pour into their
00:31:28.559 friends and then you then for me I start
00:31:30.720 to pour into my friends or pour into my
00:31:32.559 neighbors right sharing the gospel
00:31:34.240 moving moving wherever I go. I I live a
00:31:38.000 life, right, that is reflecting of my
00:31:40.320 faith. And I think you can do that in
00:31:44.240 places like bars or restaurants because
00:31:46.000 like if I’m out playing music, right,
00:31:47.600 and I’m just the love of the Lord is
00:31:49.200 coming through my heart. You know, I I
00:31:50.960 tell people all the time, well, people
00:31:52.880 that, you know, I I’m close to I talk to
00:31:54.640 that like on my way to a show, I’m
00:31:57.120 praying,
00:31:58.320 >> Lord, let your Holy Spirit move through
00:31:59.760 me in all that I do tonight. And I just
00:32:02.480 pray Lord for an opportunity for the
00:32:04.480 music to strike a chord like you allowed
00:32:06.240 music to strike a chord for me to the
00:32:08.559 point to where I was able to really lay
00:32:10.399 all my burdens, my fears, my stress, my
00:32:12.799 anger at your feet and become a true
00:32:14.960 believer. You know what I’m saying? He
00:32:16.880 used music to do that for me. And so,
00:32:20.159 how would it be right for me to remove
00:32:22.320 that opportunity for someone else?
00:32:24.240 >> No. No. And I don’t And and for me, I
00:32:27.519 think that it’s very loving for you to
00:32:29.760 go to where they’re at. And instead of
00:32:33.519 them having to be humiliated in their
00:32:35.200 mind to go somewhere to be thinking to
00:32:37.919 themselves,
00:32:39.440 >> a if you’re if they’re going to this
00:32:41.600 church, you don’t know anything about
00:32:42.880 them. So they’d have to admit to you all
00:32:45.120 of the things that they’re doing. Okay?
00:32:47.279 So that’s much different than you
00:32:50.000 meeting them where they’re at and you
00:32:53.039 talking to them and you having a nice
00:32:56.320 rel like a nice conversation,
00:32:58.480 >> right?
00:32:58.880 >> Where it’s all laid out right there.
00:33:00.640 whether they’re doing drug not that you
00:33:03.279 know whatever they’re doing and you’re
00:33:04.799 there and then they realize wow you’re
00:33:07.120 Christian and you’re talking to me I
00:33:09.279 matter to you where I’m like you’re
00:33:11.279 seeing me in my raw form where to ask
00:33:14.559 people to come to the church you’re
00:33:16.480 asking a lot of them because not I I
00:33:18.960 guarantee you a lot of people do go to
00:33:20.480 church that have all these sins but they
00:33:22.559 don’t want to tell people so that’s when
00:33:23.760 you get these fake Christians that are
00:33:25.679 going to church that have this fake mask
00:33:27.919 on and then they get scared because
00:33:30.480 they’re like, "What if they find out
00:33:31.840 this about me or what if they found out
00:33:33.600 that where they have less less chance of
00:33:36.799 lying about who they are if you’re
00:33:38.240 meeting them where they’re at?"
00:33:39.600 >> Yeah. It’s um it’s rare that you’ll see
00:33:41.760 someone they someone has to really be
00:33:44.880 strong in their skin to be able to walk
00:33:47.039 into a church and say, "Here am I all
00:33:49.360 all of my, you know,
00:33:50.640 >> very rare occas
00:33:53.200 I’ve been I’ve been in different places.
00:33:56.240 That’s where the the relationship
00:33:57.919 outside of the four walls really comes
00:33:59.600 in because if I can sit with someone
00:34:01.519 like this oneonone or even let’s just
00:34:03.120 say in a group setting and man we’re
00:34:04.880 just talking life like I got buddies
00:34:06.880 that are non-believers some that are you
00:34:08.639 know close buddies and there’s been
00:34:10.879 times where we’re just sit we’re just
00:34:12.320 talking life you know what’s your
00:34:14.480 marriage happening what’s what’s your
00:34:16.079 job look like and we’re just as buddies
00:34:18.079 as friends right
00:34:19.599 >> and then you begin to because of who I
00:34:21.679 am and the Lord you begin to move to
00:34:23.679 those those those points of the
00:34:25.359 conversation You can have those deep
00:34:27.280 conversations and like you bring up, you
00:34:29.280 know, faith, right? But most people are,
00:34:32.879 you know, society has taught people to
00:34:34.960 build that wall up and protect yourself
00:34:36.879 and it’s like, well, how do you how do
00:34:38.320 you tear that wall down? Well, it
00:34:39.839 happens within
00:34:41.359 >> personal relationships.
00:34:42.560 >> Well, yeah. I mean, we’re we’re called
00:34:43.918 to be the light of the world. And and I
00:34:46.639 love the statement that one of the
00:34:48.800 biggest ways to that’s evidence of of
00:34:52.079 God and and who he is through Jesus is
00:34:55.359 what it’s done in our lives. And so
00:34:57.680 that’s actually playing it out in in
00:34:59.680 real time what you’re talking about.
00:35:01.359 >> Yeah. That’s just it. And so if if the
00:35:03.760 Lord has given you a testimony, right,
00:35:05.200 and he said, "Hey, like you were here
00:35:08.640 and now you’re here and the whole point
00:35:10.880 of you being at this point is Christ."
00:35:13.280 That is your testimony. And so, and he
00:35:15.280 allows us to walk through things, but
00:35:17.839 it’s not just us walking by ourselves.
00:35:19.440 He’s walking with us, right, through
00:35:21.200 those trials and tribulations and that
00:35:23.040 hard aspect of life. Like, he’s walking
00:35:25.040 us through that to get us to this point
00:35:26.400 to where
00:35:27.359 >> we can now sit back and be like, "Okay,
00:35:28.960 that’s why I walked through that was
00:35:30.480 because he had a purpose for not just
00:35:32.560 for me, but there was someone else that
00:35:34.880 was going to walk that same journey
00:35:37.359 >> that
00:35:38.400 >> needs to have someone that can not just
00:35:40.480 hold them accountable, but understands
00:35:41.920 their story. guide them. Right? So, if
00:35:44.640 God has guided me from point A to point
00:35:47.280 B and then I just say, now that I’m at
00:35:49.920 point B and I’m good, I’m just going to
00:35:52.320 sit back and I’m just going to, you
00:35:54.160 know, enjoy my time with the Lord and be
00:35:56.240 thankful. And he’s like, but wait, no.
00:35:58.640 The reason why you walked through this
00:36:01.040 was for this person over here or this
00:36:02.880 person over here or this or that. But if
00:36:04.880 I remove myself from the situation to
00:36:07.200 not be used like that, then not only do
00:36:10.720 I miss out on the blessing of what the
00:36:12.400 Lord’s going to do, but I also miss out
00:36:13.839 on seeing someone else come to the faith
00:36:16.720 by what I went through.
00:36:18.400 >> Exactly.
00:36:18.640 >> And there and there’s hard topics,
00:36:20.480 right? Like there’s people that have
00:36:22.480 experienced abuse as children that
00:36:26.320 >> are questioning God, why would you allow
00:36:28.240 me to go through something so harsh and
00:36:30.320 so ugly and so s just nasty? Um, but
00:36:34.000 those that are really rooted in the
00:36:35.359 faith have been used to be able to pour
00:36:38.079 into someone that maybe um,
00:36:41.920 let’s just say if they’re a they they
00:36:44.160 experience that as a child and now as an
00:36:46.800 adult can hear someone else that is a
00:36:49.200 child express that what they’re going
00:36:50.800 through and actually listen
00:36:54.160 >> and actually believe them. Because
00:36:56.079 that’s what we see a lot of times is
00:36:57.680 that most of these kids that experience
00:36:59.839 that and they tell someone, no one
00:37:03.040 believes them.
00:37:04.640 >> You know what I’m saying? Until
00:37:05.760 >> it’s like they’re you’re looking for
00:37:06.720 attention. Yeah. Right. All these Yeah.
00:37:09.280 >> But but it goes deeper than that is that
00:37:11.200 the Lord allows us to walk through
00:37:12.720 things for the sake of someone else.
00:37:16.320 >> Right.
00:37:16.960 >> And sometimes that’s hard because if
00:37:18.720 it’s a hard journey, it sucks. But the
00:37:21.440 thing is is that someone walked that
00:37:23.760 journey before us.
00:37:24.800 >> Right. And that’s where it always goes
00:37:26.400 back to someone always walked it or
00:37:28.160 someone there’s someone before us,
00:37:29.839 before them, before them. It’s not just
00:37:31.760 us, right? And so I I always, you know,
00:37:34.720 this would be one of those where it’s
00:37:35.920 like, you know, I don’t debate a lot in
00:37:37.680 regards to, okay, well, why do you play
00:37:39.040 music in bars? Because I’m pretty solid
00:37:40.560 in why I do it. And when I explain that
00:37:42.320 to people and the few people that, you
00:37:44.640 know, like I said, you know, sadly had
00:37:46.800 left our church, they never could hear
00:37:49.280 on my heart in regards to why I do it.
00:37:51.359 It was just pretty much, no, we don’t
00:37:54.079 like it. That’s that’s not a godly thing
00:37:56.400 to do and you shouldn’t um you shouldn’t
00:37:58.800 do it or you shouldn’t be leading
00:38:01.920 worship in a church or even preaching in
00:38:03.760 the church and do that at the same time.
00:38:05.440 You shouldn’t do that either. So, it’s
00:38:06.400 either one or the other and you have to
00:38:10.000 pick and choose. And if you don’t, then
00:38:11.359 it is what it is. But it’s like, well,
00:38:13.680 okay. Right. You know, it’s a
00:38:15.839 >> Well, how are they doing that? Like for
00:38:17.280 me it’s like you should have turned off
00:38:20.079 um you know you should have turned off
00:38:21.760 the halftime show and you’re you’re
00:38:24.960 approving of kids listening to this smut
00:38:27.839 and they go from zero to 100 in two
00:38:31.599 seconds not listening to anything you
00:38:33.599 have to say. I absolutely do not approve
00:38:35.839 of any of that.
00:38:37.040 >> I don’t think I’m I never would condone
00:38:39.680 that. But I also know we we live in a
00:38:42.400 free country with with free will and I’m
00:38:46.000 not going to control everybody out my
00:38:47.760 outside my circle. And I’m just trying
00:38:49.839 to get to people’s hearts to understand
00:38:52.160 you don’t have to be angry about
00:38:53.839 everything because then you’re on the
00:38:55.119 street then people are pulling guns at
00:38:57.040 other people while they’re driving.
00:38:58.320 There’s so much anxiety and anger about
00:39:00.960 things that we can’t really control. And
00:39:02.640 if you feel like you want to control it,
00:39:04.320 go talk to the FCC. Go try to change it.
00:39:06.640 But the bottom line is the Super Bowl,
00:39:09.040 it’s a gambling betting. I mean, they’re
00:39:12.240 making money on these commercials.
00:39:13.680 They’re not
00:39:14.079 >> a lot of those people might have been
00:39:15.200 betting. So,
00:39:16.960 >> and and it’s not and it’s not like
00:39:18.640 they’re making a ton of money on the
00:39:19.839 halftime. It’s the Super Bowl. It’s it’s
00:39:22.400 all of it that is designed for adult
00:39:25.599 viewing. And yes, people call it a
00:39:27.440 family event. That does not mean it’s
00:39:29.440 youth family. they’re not going to cater
00:39:31.440 to the least denominator in the group,
00:39:33.760 which is the child that’s not spending
00:39:35.599 any money that they’re not going to
00:39:37.520 cater to that. And that’s the life it
00:39:39.680 is. I mean, the best way to to uh go
00:39:42.800 against that is don’t turn it on. But
00:39:44.880 they know people want to turn it on
00:39:46.160 because they want to watch the game and
00:39:47.280 they want to bet.
00:39:48.000 >> They want to be entertained. They want,
00:39:49.440 you know, and so and that’s and that’s
00:39:51.280 that’s the thing is that
00:39:52.800 >> there’s always, you know, I I I like
00:39:56.079 this little bit of sin, but I don’t like
00:39:58.240 this sin.
00:39:58.960 >> Correct. And so I’ll take a little bit
00:40:00.640 of this one, right? So like I said,
00:40:02.079 you’re watching the Super Bowl, which
00:40:03.280 you know is like a heavily
00:40:05.040 >> game that people gamble, right?
00:40:07.119 >> That biggest
00:40:09.359 traffic day in the year.
00:40:10.240 >> Oh yeah. People argue, well that you
00:40:12.160 know that the league is rigged, right?
00:40:13.520 That’s the big thing that everyone’s
00:40:14.480 talking about. It’s it’s rigged for the
00:40:15.920 sake of gambling and money, right? And
00:40:17.599 so
00:40:18.320 >> if that’s your if that’s what you know
00:40:20.320 is the NFL,
00:40:21.920 >> why do you participate in anything of
00:40:23.599 the NFL?
00:40:24.079 >> Right.
00:40:24.480 >> Right.
00:40:25.040 >> You know, why do you go to sporting
00:40:26.800 events? Well, it’s it’s because I have
00:40:28.400 fun with this sin
00:40:30.240 >> and that sin I find abhorrent. So, you
00:40:33.440 know, that’s the one that I’m going to
00:40:35.119 speak out about.
00:40:36.079 >> And I’m not against like like once once
00:40:38.160 again, like I said, it’s it’s
00:40:39.760 discernment. It’s hard to miss
00:40:42.880 everything in this world that has sin in
00:40:44.720 it.
00:40:44.960 >> Yeah.
00:40:45.440 >> But don’t be calling out others and
00:40:47.040 calling them names and saying, "You’re
00:40:48.640 so disgusting and you’re not Christian."
00:40:50.800 Wait a minute. But you were at us. You
00:40:52.400 were watching the Super Bowl, so you
00:40:53.839 were participating in it. That’s one of
00:40:55.359 the things that I wanted us to touch on
00:40:56.960 here is because we’ve talked a lot
00:40:58.880 about, you know, uh, going and meeting
00:41:01.440 people who are non-Christians and and
00:41:03.760 bringing our lives to them, being an
00:41:05.200 example, building relationships with
00:41:06.960 them and and there’s always that back
00:41:09.280 and forth, that struggle. How do we do
00:41:11.040 that? What’s the best way to do that?
00:41:13.280 >> But then if you think about our our
00:41:14.880 initial question about what would Jesus
00:41:16.480 do at the halftime, you know, there’s a
00:41:18.000 couple of different boxes to put him in
00:41:20.240 there. And what we’ve experienced,
00:41:22.560 particularly Megan on on social media,
00:41:25.200 has experienced a lot of backlash,
00:41:28.160 right,
00:41:28.640 >> from other Christians. And it’s this
00:41:30.640 whole tribalism. And we’ve called it out
00:41:32.880 in past podcasts about, you know,
00:41:35.119 liberals versus conservatives and the
00:41:36.880 tribalism and how people are getting so
00:41:38.720 angry about ICE and and all the
00:41:41.040 political things that are going on. And
00:41:43.040 yet there was this same exact tribalism
00:41:45.920 and anger and and emotion focused on
00:41:48.880 what Megan was saying on social media.
00:41:50.720 >> What I said was we we walked in from
00:41:52.480 church
00:41:53.280 >> and I didn’t realize the Super Bowl was
00:41:55.520 I mean the halftime show was halfway
00:41:56.880 over. So I see Lady Gaga sing and then I
00:42:00.160 see the the husband and wife getting
00:42:02.079 married. It’s a h it’s a man and a
00:42:03.440 woman.
00:42:03.760 >> This was actually a true story by the
00:42:04.880 way.
00:42:05.119 >> Yes. And it’s not Bad Bunny in a woman’s
00:42:07.920 dress which they had talked about. So
00:42:10.640 everything, the hype up to that was so
00:42:13.599 much different than what I experienced
00:42:15.440 from Lady Gaga on. So I posted, I
00:42:18.640 thought it was fire because I only saw
00:42:20.400 half of it. And I’m not I I just thought
00:42:22.400 the beat was good. I wasn’t looking too
00:42:24.160 deep into it.
00:42:25.280 >> You don’t You don’t speak Spanish. You
00:42:26.560 don’t know what the lyrics say. You’re
00:42:27.920 just enjoying the moment. It was a fun
00:42:30.319 >> Exactly. And so I then realized a couple
00:42:33.359 days later when I was looking up the
00:42:35.280 lyrics, I’m like, I didn’t see the first
00:42:37.760 song. I didn’t hear the lyrics, but
00:42:39.680 bottom line, I I I want to stay strong
00:42:42.240 that the Super Bowl is not a youth
00:42:44.000 event.
00:42:44.880 >> B, I know people were pissed at me
00:42:46.800 because they’re like I said, most people
00:42:49.200 even there’s so many Tik Toks out there
00:42:50.880 that they’re like, I speak Spanish and I
00:42:52.400 didn’t even understand what the guy was
00:42:53.520 saying because it was I don’t know why,
00:42:55.280 but
00:42:56.560 >> turn it off. And we’re all about injury.
00:42:58.960 If you if you heard it and you’re
00:43:00.400 Spanish speaking, then turn it off or
00:43:03.280 teach discernment. It’s it the world is
00:43:05.920 not at our beck and call as Christians.
00:43:09.040 No,
00:43:09.359 >> they don’t have to live according to us.
00:43:11.040 And that does not mean I’m supporting
00:43:12.960 that. What I understand is
00:43:15.760 >> we to love others, we can’t condemn
00:43:18.800 everybody that doesn’t live like us.
00:43:20.800 >> For sure. And that’s um and that’s the
00:43:22.880 sad part is like that’s where the church
00:43:24.240 has gotten a real bad rap is that it’s
00:43:26.480 >> it’s been more judgmental than anything.
00:43:29.119 Yes. And it’s like, well, no, judge the
00:43:32.800 Christians. We’re supposed to in a
00:43:34.000 sense, I guess in a sense, judgment, but
00:43:35.359 it’s really holding Christians
00:43:36.400 accountable, right, with Christians to
00:43:39.040 Christians. The Lord judges
00:43:40.480 non-Christians,
00:43:41.440 >> right?
00:43:41.839 >> We can’t remove that aspect, right? And
00:43:45.119 so, but a lot of times what we’ll do is
00:43:47.359 we want we want to do that and it’s
00:43:49.200 like, well, that’s not our that’s not
00:43:50.400 our job. Our job is really to not tear
00:43:53.599 down Christians, is to use the word to
00:43:55.119 build them up. And there is that level
00:43:57.040 of discernment of, okay, well, let’s
00:43:58.400 let’s step back and be like, okay, well,
00:44:00.000 what does this really look like? You
00:44:01.200 know what I’m saying? Like, am I really
00:44:03.280 celebrating, you know, what the world
00:44:07.040 is, you know what I’m saying? By
00:44:08.160 watching the Super Bowl or watching the
00:44:09.599 halftime show. Um, but that all comes
00:44:12.079 down to discernment within your your
00:44:14.079 household and then where the Lord has
00:44:16.240 you in your faith, you know what I’m
00:44:17.200 saying? And like
00:44:18.319 >> we we know that, you know, as believers,
00:44:20.480 like that stuff has no victory over us.
00:44:22.240 The Lord already has the victory. Right?
00:44:23.839 Now, some people say, "Well, why would
00:44:25.359 you entertain it or open your eyes to
00:44:27.280 it?" That’s the discernment. You know
00:44:28.800 what I’m saying? Like, I’m strong in my
00:44:30.160 faith to know that, "Well, that doesn’t
00:44:31.440 affect me." Now, am I constantly like,
00:44:33.359 "Oh, let me go look up all these Bad
00:44:35.040 Bunny songs and keep watching these
00:44:36.400 videos, and am I going deeper and deeper
00:44:38.400 that’s going to draw me down to a
00:44:39.599 different path?" That’s where you look
00:44:41.760 at it as okay if that’s if that’s if if
00:44:45.040 the world can easily do that to you then
00:44:47.040 maybe you should question your
00:44:48.560 relationship in the Lord and maybe you
00:44:50.160 should look at I need to go deeper in
00:44:52.400 the Lord right but uh you know as a
00:44:55.760 pastor obviously you know we we tell our
00:44:57.599 members yeah be mindful of what you
00:44:59.599 watch you know what I’m saying does it
00:45:01.040 have victory over you no but it’s still
00:45:03.520 it draws you to be a certain person and
00:45:05.520 that’s what we see in the world right
00:45:06.800 that’s why we see the anger that’s why
00:45:08.400 we see people upset that’s why we see
00:45:09.920 people arguing and fighting. It’s
00:45:11.359 because those things that the Lord
00:45:13.920 already had victory over, they’re
00:45:15.839 allowing to to basically tweak who they
00:45:19.200 are as
00:45:19.920 >> and the infighting amongst Christians
00:45:21.680 themselves.
00:45:22.400 >> Exactly. And that’s and we’re called to
00:45:23.839 love each other. That’s how people would
00:45:25.040 know that we’re of the father, right? Is
00:45:26.800 that we as believers love each other.
00:45:29.200 >> I mean, the things that have been said
00:45:30.800 to Megan online, I mean, it’s been
00:45:33.520 pretty bad.
00:45:34.160 >> And the hard part is is like you want to
00:45:35.680 have conversations as Christians. That’s
00:45:37.280 how we learn from each other, too.
00:45:39.200 That’s how we we understand where our
00:45:41.599 hearts is. Heart where our heart are.
00:45:44.319 Wait, where
00:45:45.119 >> hearts are
00:45:45.839 >> hearts are?
00:45:47.440 >> There’s that dang bear menopause.
00:45:50.160 >> But um going on a side note as a
00:45:55.280 Christian and you know all of this stuff
00:45:58.640 with the Epstein files.
00:46:00.000 >> Yeah.
00:46:00.480 >> Eating babies, Satan, Satanism. I mean,
00:46:04.400 I always go back. People are so shocked.
00:46:06.160 But doesn’t the Bible say the god of
00:46:08.400 this world is Satan or what does the
00:46:10.000 Bible say about that? I know he doesn’t
00:46:11.280 speak
00:46:12.000 >> you got to look at you got to look at um
00:46:14.079 just think about So I’ve been um on my
00:46:16.640 way to NVCA like I um it’s like a 30
00:46:20.319 minute drive so I’ve been
00:46:21.599 >> that’s North Valley Christian Academy
00:46:23.200 where you teach where our kids used to
00:46:24.800 go. Yeah.
00:46:25.680 >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, so like it’s a 30 about
00:46:29.280 a 30-minute drive for me. And so what
00:46:30.880 I’ll do is I’ll listen to um either you
00:46:33.760 know music of some sort or like lately
00:46:36.560 I’ve just been going through the book of
00:46:37.760 Ezekiel, right? And so I’m just kind of
00:46:40.079 listening through that and you know as
00:46:42.079 as the Lord as God has given Ezekiel the
00:46:44.960 message to tell the people, right?
00:46:47.440 Everything that he starts talking about
00:46:48.800 is kind of what they would what they
00:46:50.720 were doing the detestable things that
00:46:52.720 they were doing to these false idols.
00:46:54.160 you know, talking about burning their
00:46:56.000 firstborn and doing all these different.
00:46:57.760 So, there’s elements where you’re like,
00:46:59.200 okay, if that was happening in, you
00:47:02.079 know, the first testament, you know, in
00:47:04.079 the in the day of the Lord, right? You
00:47:06.079 would have to believe that those things
00:47:07.599 are still happening now, right? That’s
00:47:09.440 the filth of the world, right? That’s
00:47:11.520 >> everything that we’ve known that is
00:47:14.400 detestable to the Lord, right? And so to
00:47:17.119 think, okay, well, you know, these elite
00:47:20.079 people, you know, high up, whatever,
00:47:23.040 >> our mind doesn’t want to believe that
00:47:24.960 stuff exists, right? You know, I got
00:47:26.720 buddies that, you know, are in law
00:47:28.079 enforcement and one that just, you know,
00:47:30.319 he knows that it’s, you know, as a as a
00:47:32.079 police officer, he sees things, right?
00:47:34.800 >> But at times it was still hard for him
00:47:36.640 to comprehend that, well, that stuff,
00:47:38.480 there’s no way those things are
00:47:40.000 happening in our government officials or
00:47:42.400 our higher, you know,
00:47:43.839 >> well, think about it. people that want
00:47:45.440 to control all that, what positions do
00:47:47.760 they want to get in?
00:47:48.640 >> That’s but that’s the mindset. So it’s
00:47:50.079 like, well, you know, or to think, well,
00:47:53.040 someone that goes into politics is going
00:47:55.920 into politics because they want the
00:47:57.440 corruption, you know, I don’t think that
00:47:59.680 people go in, you know, yes, I do
00:48:01.680 believe people go in with a good heart,
00:48:03.280 you know, to really actually want to
00:48:04.400 help, but I think people don’t, you
00:48:06.560 know, they see the money in it, right?
00:48:08.640 Well, I’m going to take advantage of
00:48:09.839 politics, right? And so when you think
00:48:12.000 about those elements and I heard a
00:48:14.000 comedian say once he was like you know
00:48:16.160 he was talking about in regards to he’s
00:48:17.680 like you know as a parent right you know
00:48:19.520 we have our kids and um you know we want
00:48:22.559 to protect them. So he’s like you know
00:48:24.079 do I lie to my kids sometimes? Yeah I
00:48:25.839 lie to my kids. So he’s like so if I lie
00:48:27.920 to my kids you think the government’s
00:48:30.160 batting a thousand%. You know what I’m
00:48:32.559 saying? Like cuz you want to protect
00:48:34.079 right. I can’t tell you the full truth
00:48:35.839 or all the truth, right? Because it’s
00:48:37.359 like then if you see the bigger picture,
00:48:39.280 you’re going to either panic, you’re
00:48:40.400 going to freak out or something. So, I
00:48:41.760 got to lie a little bit to protect you,
00:48:44.880 right? And so, um, that’s what we see.
00:48:47.760 So, you got to think, okay, are they
00:48:49.920 really telling us the full truth?
00:48:51.040 >> Well, they’re not. I know for a fact.
00:48:52.960 I’ll tell you right now, and I’ve told
00:48:54.160 this story before. My dad was chief of
00:48:56.000 police Cook County Sheriff’s and was
00:48:58.000 chief of police of the cities that we
00:48:59.680 lived in in Chicago. and he was part of
00:49:02.000 Homeland Security, connected to the FBI.
00:49:04.319 And I remember when we were bombing Iraq
00:49:06.559 or we were going to bomb Iraq, my dad
00:49:09.200 had a pager. This was like 1991
00:49:12.400 or around
00:49:13.119 >> would have been 90. Yeah. Late 90, early
00:49:15.440 91.
00:49:15.920 >> He had a pager. We were in this Greek
00:49:17.599 restaurant that we used to go to on
00:49:19.280 Sunday. And
00:49:21.920 his pager went off.
00:49:23.119 >> Yeah.
00:49:23.359 >> And George, can I use your phone? And on
00:49:25.520 CNN it said like 38 hours left. will
00:49:28.880 they give up their nuclear bombs or do
00:49:30.800 we have to bomb or whatever? And my dad
00:49:32.960 came back and he goes, "I got to secure
00:49:34.240 Cook County. We’re bombing Iraq." And I
00:49:36.559 said, "Dad, no, we’re not. Do you see
00:49:38.319 the TV? Duh. CNN says that we still have
00:49:41.200 38 38 hours left."
00:49:43.839 >> And my dad’s like, "Oh, D, we’re bombing
00:49:46.000 right now. We got to go home. I got to
00:49:47.359 secure Cook County." I was literally
00:49:50.720 sitting in I felt like a movie. Yeah.
00:49:53.280 Where I’m
00:49:54.800 >> on this chair, my dad’s chair that he
00:49:57.760 used to watch TV. I’m watching TV. I
00:50:00.480 hear him on the phone talking about how
00:50:02.319 they’re bombing and this that and the
00:50:03.839 other.
00:50:04.400 >> And I’m seeing them interview
00:50:07.040 >> other people going, "So, if we do start
00:50:09.520 this war, and if we start bombing," and
00:50:12.000 I’m going,
00:50:12.480 >> "THE WAR IS OUT.
00:50:13.359 >> THEY’RE BOMBING." AND it’s like fullon
00:50:16.319 lying. And I was just I mean
00:50:21.920 there’s stuff that I don’t even know.
00:50:23.599 They forced my dad to there was so much
00:50:25.920 croo. My dad, are you ready for this? He
00:50:28.160 had a remote start for his car in
00:50:30.000 Chicago. Yeah.
00:50:31.040 >> Remote start. And I said, "Dad, why do
00:50:32.800 you have a remote start?" And I said, he
00:50:34.079 said, "Honey, I don’t want to get blown
00:50:35.520 up. Like if I start my car, they’re
00:50:36.720 going to blow me up." And I said, "Dad,
00:50:37.839 how would the criminals get into put a
00:50:40.960 bomb in your in your undercover cop
00:50:43.520 car?" He goes, "Honey, I’m talking about
00:50:45.040 Cook County. I come in here to clean up
00:50:48.079 Cook County, they would bomb me. My own
00:50:50.880 people would bomb me. I mean,
00:50:52.960 >> that’s sad.
00:50:53.680 >> It was crazy.
00:50:55.520 >> It’s funny when she when she first told
00:50:57.599 me that story about her dad with the
00:50:59.359 pager and the bombing of Iraq.
00:51:01.599 >> I didn’t know that at the time. We we
00:51:03.280 met years and years later after that,
00:51:05.760 >> but I remember when I saw CNN the very
00:51:08.720 first time they showed the images of the
00:51:10.480 bombing with all the tracer rounds going
00:51:12.559 off and they’re saying, "We just started
00:51:14.480 the bombing. These are the first bombs
00:51:15.920 coming in. And I remember thinking to
00:51:18.000 myself, that looks like it’s been going
00:51:20.240 on for a while. What? What? What are you
00:51:22.079 talking? Those aren’t the first This is
00:51:24.000 going on for a long time. They’re all
00:51:25.760 over the place with the bombs and the
00:51:27.040 tracer rounds and the
00:51:28.559 >> so,
00:51:29.040 >> but I just remember and I know my dad
00:51:31.359 went in there to clean up the county and
00:51:32.880 there’s certain people that he’s like
00:51:34.240 they went in there to clean up but they
00:51:36.079 end up turning crooked too because I
00:51:38.160 just you end up not wanting to end your
00:51:40.720 career and you know my dad ended up
00:51:42.319 resigning or whatever and it’s just
00:51:45.200 >> it’s crazy being a part of it and
00:51:47.359 actually being there with my dad and
00:51:49.920 hearing it firsthand, not hearing Trump
00:51:52.400 saying there’s fake news or not hearing
00:51:54.640 There is so much corruption. I mean, I
00:51:57.440 know the county actually put taps on our
00:51:59.440 phones. So, after my dad left, the phone
00:52:01.760 company was there and I’m like, "Dad,
00:52:03.440 what? Who put taps on our phone?" He’s
00:52:05.440 like, "The county?" I’m like, "What?" I
00:52:08.160 mean, it is real life what you see in
00:52:10.480 movies, right? And that’s what we see.
00:52:12.720 And so, it’s like to believe that
00:52:14.400 certain things are not happening,
00:52:16.160 >> you’d have to be really naive and dumb,
00:52:18.000 right?
00:52:18.400 >> That’s that’s my opinion, right? And so
00:52:20.319 now like I like I enjoy uh let’s just
00:52:24.400 say I enjoy uh what’s the word? Um
00:52:28.079 >> pickles.
00:52:28.720 >> No. Well, pickles aren’t bad. Pickles
00:52:31.040 are bad. Conspiracy, right? I enjoy some
00:52:34.000 good conspiracy theories.
00:52:35.359 >> Well, it’s juicy stuff. It’s fun.
00:52:37.040 >> It’s fun. You know what I’m saying? You
00:52:38.000 know, it’s enjoyable, right? And
00:52:39.200 >> you like to yell at I knew it.
00:52:40.640 >> Yeah. You know, you know, and so so I,
00:52:42.800 you know, that stuff’s great, but it’s
00:52:44.480 like, okay, so I get that there’s so far
00:52:46.240 you can go Yeah. with conspiracies, but
00:52:48.880 then there’s there’s areas where it’s
00:52:50.559 just like, well, why if it happened
00:52:53.119 here,
00:52:54.720 >> why wouldn’t it happen here?
00:52:56.480 >> I’m saying why wouldn’t I think that
00:52:58.480 like people are
00:53:00.880 treating children a certain way, you
00:53:03.440 know, what if they’re I don’t know if
00:53:04.800 they’re like actually really eating
00:53:06.160 babies, right? But who knows? You know
00:53:08.079 what I’m saying? Like, you know, I think
00:53:09.839 the password talks about, you know, the
00:53:13.280 power of money, right? That it leads to
00:53:15.839 a lot of evil. You would think that if
00:53:17.920 you have that much money, you know, is
00:53:20.160 it possible that you would be so bored
00:53:21.520 that you’re like, I just want to start
00:53:22.880 entertaining some of these things, you
00:53:24.400 know, no one can see me, you know, like
00:53:27.040 I am above.
00:53:27.839 >> What movie did we see? Did Jack have or
00:53:29.920 somebody Skyla had me see this movie and
00:53:33.280 this guy was kidnapping women
00:53:36.400 >> to then keep him keep them in his
00:53:38.880 basement and he would cut things off at
00:53:41.760 a time. So he basically would kidnap a
00:53:44.640 girl. These he said these guys are
00:53:47.200 billionaires. There’s they’re they’re
00:53:49.280 highs and lows. Host there’s a movie
00:53:51.440 called hostile.
00:53:52.640 >> No, it wasn’t hostile.
00:53:54.559 >> That was the same.
00:53:55.520 >> He would chop off a leg and then send
00:53:58.480 the meat from the leg with a picture of
00:54:00.640 the girl.
00:54:01.359 >> Disgusting.
00:54:02.079 >> And but he literally it seemed legit.
00:54:05.839 >> Not finding that one on Bit Angel for
00:54:07.440 sure.
00:54:08.160 >> No, but it seemed legit. Like it was
00:54:10.240 like I it creeped me out cuz I you know
00:54:12.720 I can I can handle horror movies all day
00:54:14.880 long. I’m like, h person in a mask. This
00:54:16.960 seems so fake. Rule, you know, everybody
00:54:19.280 go like scary movies don’t do anything
00:54:21.760 for me. But creepy stories that seem
00:54:24.400 like somebody could actually do that. It
00:54:27.200 really creeps me out. Yeah,
00:54:28.880 >> but think about this when you’re talking
00:54:30.400 about whether, you know, the rich and
00:54:32.880 elite are doing these things like eating
00:54:34.880 babies and and why it’s so hard for us
00:54:37.440 to
00:54:38.640 >> really grasp that that could be going on
00:54:40.960 is because it’s so far from what we do
00:54:44.319 in our daily lives and how we live life
00:54:46.319 out daily. But, you know, there’s that
00:54:48.319 old saying, how do you eat an elephant?
00:54:50.000 And it’s it’s one bite at a time. And
00:54:52.319 and these people, I’ve got to believe
00:54:55.200 they didn’t just become rich and famous
00:54:57.599 and elite and say, "Oh, I’m gonna start
00:54:59.760 eating babies." I I I think that it’s
00:55:02.079 all this slippery slope where it’s a
00:55:04.079 little sin at a time, one after another
00:55:06.559 or another. And and when it comes to
00:55:09.359 things like that where they’re they’re
00:55:11.200 looking at uh you know pornography or or
00:55:14.800 things, it’s always this downward spiral
00:55:17.520 where where the body is trained or the
00:55:19.760 mind is trained to seek out more
00:55:22.079 dopamine each time. And so they’ll start
00:55:24.640 with little things and maybe not on
00:55:26.319 purpose. Maybe that’s not their end
00:55:28.000 goal. Maybe the people around them see
00:55:30.079 it coming because they went through it
00:55:31.280 too. But I think they just start off at
00:55:33.440 some point
00:55:34.559 >> saying, "Well, I need I need a more of a
00:55:36.960 high for something. I need to do this."
00:55:38.480 And eventually,
00:55:39.920 >> you know, you can get so far down in in
00:55:43.200 your sin that you can look back and say,
00:55:45.280 "How did I ever get here?" And I think
00:55:46.800 there might be a lot of that going on.
00:55:48.240 And I’m not excusing them at all
00:55:50.640 >> because they should recognize it. You
00:55:52.559 know, there are lines that you just
00:55:53.839 don’t cross. So, I think we can kind of
00:55:56.640 wrap everything together and maybe just
00:55:59.280 get a couple of final words on it here.
00:56:01.760 >> I I I think it comes down to as
00:56:05.440 Christians,
00:56:06.799 >> do we change culture
00:56:08.799 >> or would do we do we try and change the
00:56:10.720 hearts of the people who can change
00:56:12.880 culture?
00:56:13.520 >> Uh I think that’s just it. Um and that’s
00:56:15.200 where it goes back to what we talked
00:56:16.160 about earlier is the is the
00:56:17.200 relationships, right? And so if if I’m
00:56:19.440 pouring into the the people in my
00:56:21.119 circle, if I’m pouring into them and I’m
00:56:23.760 pouring into them, whether if it’s, you
00:56:25.440 know, faith stuff or just really just
00:56:28.319 like just loving them as people, right?
00:56:30.160 They’re God’s creation whether they
00:56:31.520 believe or not, right? We’re all God’s
00:56:32.799 creation. And so if I’m just pouring to
00:56:34.319 them as a person that God has built me
00:56:36.720 to be, eventually that will influence
00:56:39.680 them to be a certain person. Amen. And
00:56:41.760 then and then they go out. That’s the
00:56:43.040 whole that’s the whole point of going
00:56:44.079 out and building up disciples. And then
00:56:45.280 they go and so what we What we stopped
00:56:48.480 doing is saying, "Okay, I got to go and
00:56:50.319 change culture, but and so I’m going to
00:56:52.720 change culture by going all the way to
00:56:54.160 the top and starting with the top and
00:56:55.680 working down." No, you got to start from
00:56:58.000 the bottom.
00:56:59.119 >> But it seems more difficult for people.
00:57:00.480 That’s why they don’t want to do it.
00:57:01.680 >> Yeah. Because it is difficult, right?
00:57:03.359 Because even just what Jesus said like
00:57:04.960 a, you know, he wasn’t welcomed in his
00:57:06.880 own hometown, right? Because they knew
00:57:09.040 him. So they’re like, "How can this guy
00:57:10.720 that we knew that was a carpenter
00:57:12.400 >> be the savior of the world?" Right?
00:57:14.240 >> Well, there’s no way because we watched
00:57:16.000 him grow up, blah blah. So then it was
00:57:18.079 easy for him to go somewhere else. But
00:57:19.599 the thing is is that when you start in
00:57:22.000 your own backyard within your family,
00:57:24.160 then your friends, then your neighbors,
00:57:25.920 and then your co-workers, and it starts
00:57:27.440 to go and go eventually
00:57:29.280 >> the Lord, as we move, he moves, right?
00:57:32.640 Because we are called to carry the light
00:57:34.319 of the world. We’re not called to put
00:57:35.920 underneath a basket, you know, the
00:57:37.280 little children’s song we always read,
00:57:39.040 sing, right? We’re called to shine on
00:57:41.119 the mountain top, shine, right? It’s
00:57:42.400 him, right?
00:57:43.359 >> We’re called to be the salt, right? And
00:57:45.280 the moment we start to lose our
00:57:46.400 saltiness, right? Scripture says, "How
00:57:47.920 can we become salty again?" You can’t
00:57:50.319 you can’t resalt salt. So the moment you
00:57:53.200 start solid, you stay solid. And that is
00:57:56.400 by trusting in the Lord every day. So as
00:57:58.640 Christians, we’re called to have
00:58:00.559 discernment. Be mindful. Yes, I think
00:58:02.559 people should be mindful what they
00:58:03.839 watch, right? Don’t entertain something
00:58:06.319 that you shouldn’t. You know what I’m
00:58:07.760 saying? But also understand that the
00:58:09.359 moment you gave your life to the Lord,
00:58:10.640 he has victory over those things. They
00:58:13.040 no longer have a stronghold. They no
00:58:15.599 longer have any power, right? The power
00:58:17.680 is in the hand of the Lord, right? And
00:58:19.200 so, but that doesn’t mean that, okay,
00:58:20.720 well, let me attempt his power and see
00:58:22.240 how powerful it is. Be mindful, right?
00:58:25.040 But that’s for everybody. That’s So, I
00:58:27.040 got to look at my own life
00:58:28.960 >> before I look at someone else’s life.
00:58:30.559 Right.
00:58:30.880 >> Right. And then as I live out my life,
00:58:32.720 that should be able to inspire someone
00:58:34.240 else. Be like, okay, you know, I want to
00:58:35.440 do that. I’m saying it. So, that’s how
00:58:37.040 you do it. You know what I’m saying?
00:58:37.760 Like, yeah.
00:58:38.559 >> Ground up. Start from the ground up.
00:58:39.920 >> Great words.
00:58:40.480 >> Love it. Well, thank you so much for
